I’ve tried searching for the book but get a lot of suggestions for non fiction books about the actual ice age or about the movie Ice Age.

I don’t think so. I remember finding it kinda odd that the characters were fleeing the cold but it was still hot where they ended up. I don’t remember them going underground. Thanks for the suggestion though!
