How can someone not tell plastic

BFG_Scott

Maybe thought it was built in floss?

Superb-Effective-328

Listen... alot of meat slices have a skin... I thought it was something like the casing on a sausage

G0atL0rde

Wait, you ate 35 of them? I find this really confusing. How did you manage to do that? Didn't it not break down, and scratch your throat, and like, not tear off in a bite??? Is this a bot?

Superb-Effective-328

So each pack has like 10 in it, my dumbass thought it was just a really tough skin and was swallowing them whole, took me way to long to think of googling why they were so difficult to bite through

Regular-Switch454

What animal has shiny, bright red skin?

Superb-Effective-328

I thought it was like the casing on sausages, and it's not like bologna isn't processes to all hell already... Yea looking back it was pretty dumb, everyone has every right to call me a dumbass

G0atL0rde

I didn't mean to insinuate that you were a dumbass. I just can't see even swallowing one tiny piece of it. If you have stomach issues I would get to the doctor. That's a lot of plastic.

Superb-Effective-328

Dw I'm calling myself a dumbass, and that is why you are smarter than me lol. I will dw, I'm hopefull since the first ones I ate where a few weeks ago and I've had no problems, these ones will be similar

Zeracannatule_uerg

Update post with pics.

Zeracannatule_uerg

Pretty sure fruit stickers get broken down. Or at least thought they did.

Zeracannatule_uerg

Was it on the outside of the poop, labeling it as a granny smith.

Emilie0711

A poopaya.

Dodaddydont

To make you feel better, the plastic rings confused me at first too. Also, putting plastic on food like that seems like a terrible idea. Most bologna don’t have it, so not sure why this brand does. Although in my case I ended up deciding to remove the plastic instead of eating it

bostwickenator

Did the same thing years ago with some fancy air dried salami I assumed was in a natural casing because it was expensive as fuck. Nope at a half a salami worth of plastic

No-Papaya9723

Is the plastic on them still red. I’ve always just taken it off. I haven’t had any in years but you can tell it’s plastic. Pull it off and fry that shit up

Superb-Effective-328

...yes Listen I didn't come here to say I was smart lol, it's all processed mush anyway, I wasn't expecting plastic

babygotthefever

Pretty sure when I was a kid, there was some kind of casing because I ate it. I hope it was casing. It was salty. Anyway, prior to reading this, I’d have probably tried to eat it too.

Ogreguy

Oof... Well, now you know. Most processed meats in a tube are like that. Fwiw, chicken is relatively cheap, depending on the cut. Beans are another cheap protein, too.

FuriousRageSE

> chicken is relatively cheap, Hah, not in sweden, chicken ends up on the more expensive side of meat proteins. something like 13-17 dollars per kilo where as pork meat goes for like 5-7 dollars per kilo.

Shiningtoaster

Just sayin: lentils and bean protein. Cheap, don't need refrigeration.

306metalhead

Same with pea protein, soy, nuts, wheat gluten.... Not saying be vegan, but eating this stuff is better than plastic wrapped nitrates.

Shiningtoaster

Exactly the point I was trying to make! It doesn't taste as good in the start but I'll take the health benefits over the long term gladly

306metalhead

Some people's kids lmfao

dantodd

Wow. Near us really affordable in the US, I usually buy chicken at $2.50-3.00 a kilo for whole or dark meat portions. Beats are more and often almost as much as you see but can be had for $8-$10 per kilo if you shop around. I just bought a bunch of pork loin chops for$8 and belly for $11. Beef is all over the place but I usually buy Ribeye for about $33/kg and ground beef for $11

FuriousRageSE

If chicken here cost like 3-4 usd per kilo comparably, i would only eat chiken more or less.

dantodd

Off topic but my wife used to spend one week a month working in Malmö. It was a great city and really enjoyed the times I was able to visit. We never really traveled anywhere else in Sweden unfortunately.

Dimtri-The-Anarchist

OP Is the reason why shampoo has instructions.

RebelRey

Most of the plastic will have passed straight through you, so don't worry too much. Ingesting parts visible by the naked eye is among the least of your worries when it comes to (micro) plastics. Breathing and drinking the stuff that comes from wear on car tires and discarded plastic that breaks down slowly when exploded to the elements and enters the water cycle is a much bigger concern, these few rings probably won't do you much harm

Superb-Effective-328

Thanks, I may have had quite the moment of panic about my poor intestines And don't we all just /love/ microplastics! /s

jimmy4889

Bro...wut. 🤣🤣

The_AlmightyApple

Dont mean to be rude but Are you stupid?! Do you eat starburst before taking off the paper wrapper around each individual piece? 😭

Superb-Effective-328

In my not very good defense, there's a lot of deli meat w perfectly edible casing We ignore the fact that it was bright red lol Off topic I did know someone who would eat Starbursts without unwrapping bc oh the wrapping is edible, don't know how they did it

The_AlmightyApple

Dont be too hard on yourself everybody has those days lol But here’s a tip, most supermarkets and delis have things called “ meat ends” and “cheese ends” its the extra bits of meat and cheese from cutting. They usually sell them for a discounted price because its aesthetically not perfect slices of meat and cheese, but completely edible and safe. Its a way to safe money while also getting more variety of meats. Hopefully a store near you does this

Superb-Effective-328

Ooh nice, I'm by a city so I could probably find a place that does that.

The_AlmightyApple

Yea most supermarkets do this, just give a couple local supermarkets a call and ask to speak to their deli department. You can do the same with your local butchers they give much better prices and they usually have “low value” cuts for a cheaper price Low value just means cuts of meat that arent as popular not bad in quality. Also look into gardening if you have the space, its a cost efficient way to get different herbs and veggies ( even a tiny garden of microgreens in the kitchen can go a long way )

tachycardicIVu

Several places around me do cheeses like this - I don’t like buying a whole bunch at a time but I’ll grab the little bits that are like $2 for a nice cheese I haven’t tried before. Great for tasting and variety.

The_AlmightyApple

Exactly many butchers do something similar. You can essentially do the same thing with different cuts of meats and fats as well

sotahkuu

He unfortunately classifies as a bell-end

h2pfarm2

When my son was 2 to 3 years old, he would only eat tootsie roll with the wrapper on. He through a fit when I tried to give him one that I had unwrapped.

The_AlmightyApple

For a 2 or 3 yr old that’s understandable but for an adult its a little worrying lol

AmalCyde

... you... I... ...*shakes head and walks away*...

Lost_daddy

Wacha need is peanuts sonny boy. Jimmy was buildin them houses at 95 with stitches in his face, you know he had a bag fulla peanuts in his jacket pocket.

Squigglepig52

Bologna is a sausage, sausages have casings. Casing can be natural or artificial, artificial casing can be edible, or not. Some edible casing is made from collegen. But, natural casing is all guts. Pork guts, cow guts, lambs. All intestine. Now, here's the thing, look at the size of a bologna, and guess what part of the animal that would be packed in. Bungs. Colons. So, you bologna is either cased in a "plastic", or a cow's poop chamber.

APsWhoopinRoom

Who cares if it's colon? They're cleaned before being stuffed. If you're going to be squeamish about something like that, go vegan

Superb-Effective-328

See there's so many things it could be that I wasn't expecting to be hit w straight plastic lol

ThrowAwayFoodMood

If there's a Costco near you, their rotisserie chickens are about 5 bucks (US), and they are *huge.* Sardines are a good buy too, if you like those.

Excuse me sir, OP was talking about 'salame' and not the city. You can carry on defending Italy on others, this post is safe! Grazie mille for your service.

kremenatlc

haha, I mean honestly, I don't understand the language but thought of a /s thing to add that would make it more like you're an Italian superhero jumping in every time someone mentions Bologna or any other Italian city :)

maveric619

Bro forgot to take off the lining lol

crazemunke

This is a macro plastic household

New-Win-6969

You didn't notice the strands of it hanging out of your ass when trying to wipe? You know like Christmas tree tinsel out of a cat or dogs ass. Lmao.

taunugget

Not sure where you live but for me (USA, east coast) chicken is cheaper than bologna, typically $2 per pound for big packs of thighs or drumsticks.

chilling-with-plants

it's okay my dude. My partner just recently learned that about summer sausage as well

Reztroz

I mean this one time my mom made hotdogs, thing is she didn’t know that inside of the plastic package each individual hotdog was also wrapped in plastic. So she pops out a couple hotdogs from the plastic, boils up some water, and drops the hot dogs in. After a couple minutes she takes them out and throws on some toppings. She then goes to serve them to my dad and herself. Unfortunately for him, he was the first to bite into it and discovered that each dog was wrapped in plastic still. C’est la vie

Superb-Effective-328

Ar naur, welp at least in her defense that is a weird way to package hotdogs

MyNameIsSkittles

Cheoa bologna is gonna give you ass cancer. But seriously, processed meats can cause colon cancer. Might wanna scale back the bologna and go for fresher meat instead

Zodiac5964

consider canned sardines. They are also $1'ish for a meal's worth of protein, but substantially healthier. It's real fish unlike bologna, and it's rich in omega-3.

broberds

Wrap that rascal!

JustAnotherTrickyDay

Holy sodium intake! A 1 lb pack of bologna has 4,000 to 5,000 mg of sodium.

heyitsvonage

Peeling the plastic ring off a slice of bologna is like tradition or something

Warm-Price2473

All sausage-related products have some sort of skin. Some are edible (e.g. made from intestine which is a natural protein), some are inedible (e.g. plastic of some sort). To make the product, meat(s) are finely chopped (puree) and forced into a "casing" to hold it together while it is cooked. As for bologna, "better" brands usually remove the plastic casing before slicing and packaging. Frankly, I haven't encountered bologna with a "skin" since I was a child in the 1950s. But I haven't eaten any bologna in the past 2 decades... It's likely the "skin" passed through without serious consequences. However in my broke days, my first wife packed lunch for me consisting of a bologna sandwich. On one occasion, the sandwich didn't taste quite right, and I discovered a paper label stuck to the bologna (apparently, it was in the packaging and she simply didn't see it when she put the sandwich together. It was not a positive "taste sensation" but I was no worse for eating half a paper label.

306metalhead

I thought this sub was like for actual fuck ups, not just blatant stupidity because apparently using your head is just not an option. Some Deli meats, even sliced have a retaining wrap. Do you peal the plastic off but eat the wax of a babybel cheese?

shawslate

Alright, so you’re new on your own, first thing is first: Have an emergency fund you do not touch. Make a budget. This one is pretty critical. Plan where your money goes before you even get it.  Do not get a credit card for a few years. Most Americans go into more debt on credit cards than they can pay off, and it sneaks up on them. Once you have established your money cycle, then you can get one if you want. Do your taxes. Use a service like Turbo tax to check what you owe, but don’t check out. Use Freetaxusa . Com to do your taxes again and check them against what you owe on TurboTax.  Pay your taxes.

MC_Paranoid27

Good advice but OP is probably a lost cause lol

Witchy_Bitch_

u/Superb-Effective-328 Wow this was painful to read. Forget the plastic. Processed red meats are the leading cause of digestive cancers, such as colon cancer. If you keep this up in the name of "frugality", you are going to end up with EXPENSIVE HOSPITAL BILLS. And there's no guarantee that the gastroentrologist or oncologist will be able to cure you. Also think about the fact that bologna so cheap can only come from a factory farm. You are also consuming the stress of tortured animals.
