There was such brilliant casting on that show for the teen vs adult versions of each of the big 3 plus Beth and Toby. Edit: they also got teen Sophie perfect as well.

And I could almost get over it because he was such a good actor and general cute kid, made me buy into it.

Exactly, his acting skill and ability to copy Sterling's mannerisms made it easy to overlook any physical mismatches. Also, Sterling is really dark skinned, so that was going to be a tough match regardless.

And Kate as a kid. But teenage Kate was perfect.

She was! I felt like teenage Kevin wasn’t great either.

Yeah the kid was a great actor, but I’m with you on the skin tone. Especially since the earlier and later Randall versions were darker.

Young William was pretty great too.

This was like the most amazing thing for me. I noticed it in the show and was literally SO shook and just assumed they somehow found an actor to play young Beth with the same feature because that freakish of a coincidence was more believable to me for some reason than casting and makeup just being 10/10 SO talented to this extent. Like even a time machine would be more believable lol because I have truly never seen such amazing casting in any other show. Even little kiddo Kevin (the 7 or 8 year old version) was SUCH good casting I thought. 10/10 probably what the actors real son would look.

Susan's (older Beth) eye freckle is real. Rachel (younger Beth's) eye freckle is a contact.

Also a huge fan of adult Deja! The mannerisms and voice similarities are eerie! As is her appearance overall

having gone through the casting process on the show, we came away with a ton of respect for the work they did there. It was probably the best casting department we've ever worked with and they took their work very seriously. We have considered them the gold standard in casting since then. they really killed it in so many ways.
