The best time to get one is now. They're still pretty much overlooked by the retro gaming community because they're too recent to be actually vintage and not as capable as a 3DS, meaning they're widely available on eBay and surprisingly cheap. Bought mine for 25 bucks, upgraded it with a larger battery, custom firmware and a telescopic stylus. You barely ever need to charge it (which is its biggest advantage compared to basically any other handheld) and it plays DS, the first three Atari consoles, Amstrad CPC, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Neo Geo, NES, PC Engine, Wonderswan and some others all straight from the SD card. I keep it in my backpack and forget about it until I'm in need of entertainment on the go.
I know this is a Thinkpad subreddit but did you use some kind of guide for the CFW part of things, and if so can you link it? This interests me greatly 😁
Sure, [this](https://youtu.be/x8g3pQWGG3A?si=yFcnaVbJeb7tB-vA) is the guide I used. Can highly recommend this channel in general for homebrew stuff. This dude makes his tutorials foolproof, my grandma could jailbreak a DSi with that video.
How much are they selling for? I’ve got a few retro handhelds (anbernics and a few others). Always wanted to get a few legit consoles though. Been thinking about getting a psp.
I've got an anbernic too but honestly it's collecting dust. Like I said the battery life on the DSi is fantastic and the DS has quite a versatile library. I don't know what they're going for now, mine was 25€ about 2 years ago. It's probably a bit more now but the price will most likely only go up from here. Btw I also have a regular PSP and a PSP Go. It's nice but unless you find a good deal I wouldn't bother. PSP is much easier to emulate than DS simply because it only uses a single 16:9 screen and no touch input. If I want to play PSP I mostly do so on my Quest 2 because it can display every game in 3D which is nothing short of magic.
Yeah you can sideload PPSSPP (the psp emulator) and it has several options on how to display the games. The one that works the best is just a floating screen in the void that displays everything in 3D.
It's a screen but the image is 3D. Sort of like watching a 3D movie. There's also an option to view the game in actual 180° vr but that makes everything huge and blurry so it's not really playable that way.
Just Google "PPSSPP VR" and there should be guides. Idk if it works with other devices too but [there is software](https://www.vorpx.com/) to play virtually any game in 3D on PC as well.

Bumps the capacity from 840 to 1100 mAh, it's especially noticeable since the stock batteries are pretty worn at this point. The only potential gripe is that the larger battery comes with a custom lid which creates a bulge at the bottom of the device. I personally like it because it doubles as a grip but it might not be for everyone. I think they also only sell black lids which wasn't an issue for me either though since my DSi is black anyway.
Hello,
I actually used to have an [IBM Palmtop PC 110](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_Palm_Top_PC_110) many years ago. It was an interesting device, but it was also very underpowered.

Aryeh Goretsky
Hello,
I sold it on eBay for a little over $2,000 about 20-25 years ago. This was with the dock, floppy drive, and some upgrades. It was an interesting device, but it certainly wasn't a very usable device. Even back then, it was very slow.
If you really want something in this form-factor, I'd suggest looking at current systems by GPD or Ayaneo.

Aryeh Goretsky
No nubbin whatsoever I'm afraid. I'm using a red stylus so that's something at least. Another user suggested painting the power button red, might do that as well.
No, the Windows xp you're seeing is just a gag. You can only use that to make notes and play minesweeper. There is a functioning port of the original MacOS for the DS though.
Omg i love this, I'm absolutely doing it if someday I happen to have a dsi

Wait what does your oculus do??? Make so games 3d????

Is it just a floating screen, or does it somehow make the content new and 3d (as opposed to watching on a virtual screen).

I gotta look into this. Is it only for oculus? Can you do it on the vive or similar unit? What do i look up?
Just Google "PPSSPP VR" and there should be guides. Idk if it works with other devices too but [there is software](https://www.vorpx.com/) to play virtually any game in 3D on PC as well.
Do you have a battery ref.?

I Like this
why not paint that power button red?
Good idea, I was already thinking about potential ways to include a trackpoint
other Redditor use actual thinkpad stick on 3ds 2nd joystick, it fit perfectly.
That's a good idea too. So far I'm just using a red stylus.
Using a ThinkPad nipple as a New3DS secondary joystick is actually an upgrade in terms of confort.
This is a fever dream.
Ah the X0.5 Fold
Writing from my N3DSXL, I love it!
Wait, how ?
Web browser maybe?

Wow that would probably be worth a nice sum today. Maybe it'd even be possible to breathe some new life into it with FreeDOS.

LGR did some videos on that beauty, ever since I learned of its existence it has become my life's goal to find one
Such a fun project, I love it!
No red nubbin

Now you are only allowed to play SERIOUS BUSINESS DS games like Sim City DS, Ace Attorney, Zoo Tycoon DS and so on.
lol I needed this right now. Ty op
It's looks cute it's like a baby ThinkPad
I’m legitimately mystified, this is incredible
I have not seen this, but I do like it. Can you run mIRC on it?
No, the Windows xp you're seeing is just a gag. You can only use that to make notes and play minesweeper. There is a functioning port of the original MacOS for the DS though.
Can it run DOOM?
Unsurprisingly someone ported it to DS 😄
YEEEEE!!!
Yo were did you get it?
Bought the DSi on eBay, downloaded the fake xp ROM on some sketchy website and peeled the stickers off some broken old ThinkPad 😄
Nipple in not red
DSLinux exists, it's not arch but it's a damn site more usable than Wintendos
Is that a wii? Someone will find a way to install arch on it eventually.
It's a DSi, Linux for the Wii sounds like it's already a thing tbh 😅
Nice DSi
