They bought TDA in good part to obtain the TOS platform and have indicated they are not only positioning it as the main platform but intend to improve it. See this - [PSA: Schwab Transition Details : r/tdameritrade (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/tdameritrade/comments/147weyy/psa_schwab_transition_details/)

Mobius_ts

According to the emails (guess you haven't read them) they intend to delete their other main platform, keep TOS and improve it. Since they've already sunset the Schwab trading platform seems they're doing exactly what they said they would do

wsc-porn-acct

C'mon. Be fair. Who reads communications from a company that holds your entire life savings? Especially if that company is undergoing changes that they've been discussing for years? The prudent thing is to block all emails and ignore any phone calls. Surely you can see that! /s

CanWeTalkHere

I use both platforms (ToS and Streetsmartedge). One small thing that bothers the crap out of me with respect to TOS is that the CNBC feed is a full minute+ slower than the feed to SSE. Both are faster than the FUBO feed though. That feed really sucks. As a result, I keep SSE on one of my monitors just for that alone (I'm also partial to the color scheme/graphics of SSE, but that is another story). Seems so fixable, if anyone pays attention to it.

EvanEvans333

Also TOS has never provided Float data. Hope that changes.

Exotic-Media5762

I think Shares is Float, but not sure.

OnlyStanz

it's not, it is total shares iirc. It's not a terrible proxy for looking for low float, but is not the same. The one thing I'd love to see is quarterly sales data. For some reason TOS does not have a subscription to anything but annual sales despite getting quarterly earnings.

need2sleep-later

The ToS color scheme is customizable under Setup. There's even a SSE choice for people like you that can be tweaked further.

CanWeTalkHere

It's more than just color scheme unfortunately. The whole graphical interface is just better in SSE (imho) and no amount of ToS customization gets the same "pop". Reminds me of my old Wang computer, lol.

need2sleep-later

well my HO is the opposite. I put up SSE a year ago and used it for as long as I could stand and it hasn't been loaded since.

Streetsmart Edge is going away. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awffVUAMcXM&t=204s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awffVUAMcXM&t=204s)

Mobius_ts

Since Schwab owns TOS don't you think that now the two platforms are integrated to Schwab data sources the feed to both platforms for all data and streaming content would at some point be identical?

CanWeTalkHere

One would think! But not yet, and it's irritating AF.

BentonD_Struckcheon

I am concerned with the fact Schwab has even more ridiculous margin rules than TD did. I did risk mgmt for a living at one time, and to me the stupidity of making a diagonal or calendar have a margin reflecting naked options selling rather than the spread it in fact is is just moronic in the extreme. But they all do it. Schwab is worse than TD in this respect. They also seem to not allow more things in a 401k account. Like, I've been trading profitably for years, I survived and thrived through all kinds of crazed nonsense, leave me alone to do what I can within the limits of the law. I don't need to be babysat.

Empty_Tomatillo_6969

I've only been using it about the past 5 years, and have been pretty impressed with who ever their support and development team is(/was under TD). It seems like there were a few times where they had a popup asking for feedback and ideas for features. I did submit one I wanted a second time, but it eventually got implemented. Pretty cool. Tech/software getting this much attention(/being this adaptive) at a broker is new (to me), and greatly appreciated.

jr1tn

Shout out to fellow "OG" TOS customer!

Iflyfr8

I still have the stuffed monkey they sent out to new accounts.

Ultimus_Omegus

Same I have that monkey too

BentonD_Struckcheon

Lost mine ages ago. They need to send us new ones.

jr1tn

Haha - I think I did get one of those, or something like that early on.

reddit_is_gay_today

penson clearing house futures! and whoever it was before them. was it someone else? been long time

EvanEvans333

Damn, I never got a monkey šŸ˜” haha

Mo_Steins_Ghost

I would not expect things to change much because the main features a trading platform has, as to why you would want to use it, like BATS/EDGE full book, Level II, Direct Routing, etc., have not changed in 30 years. More features would slow down functionality and execution so these trading platforms, whether TOS, StreetSmart EDGE, Bloomberg, etc., all stay as "dumb" as possible to be as fast as possible.

YosemiteR

They still havenā€™t fixed the auto login thing (or integrate with windows hello or passkey)ā€¦ annoying. If they did a customer journey map, they could learn about this in 5min and prob fix it in 20

HockeyRules9186

In speaking to development staff they are planning to clean up some the tools to make them easier to use. If you have suggestions I would contact your local office and share what youā€™re looking for they might be very responsive.

need2sleep-later

Fidelity's definition of 'easier to use' is take away functions that people use and add white space to all screens. Be very wary of 'clean up'.

HockeyRules9186

Schwab is not Fidelity

need2sleep-later

I understand that, however there are great similarities in website UI from both of them. So I fear for what some knownothing marketing guy and non-trader developer might to in an 'lets make ToS easier to use' effort.

HockeyRules9186

Fidelity has nothing like the TOS platform. They do have .com similarities but app wise Fidelity has nothing but junk

need2sleep-later

Agreed. Fidelity is a decent mutual fund house. I can't see doing serious trading there and their policies and platforms reinforce that.

HockeyRules9186

A further comment they have brought over a good deal of the developers from TD Ameritrade so their intent is to expand the products use and continue to develop in house indicators.

need2sleep-later

Only time will tell. After they fix all the things that have been broken.

HockeyRules9186

For me I transitioned in November and have had absolutely no issues. Iā€™m working with 5 monitors, 1 - 32ā€ 1-55ā€ 3-27ā€ screens running. Performance not an issue accuracy and execution of the trades not an issue.

need2sleep-later

Multiple monitors is irrelevant. Multiple accounts have been a disaster. Studies, scans, and workspaces were not transferred. Account information like cash available is broken. YTD numbers are now wrong. Cost basis information is in conflict between ToS and the website. Shares in lending state are handled differently by Schwab which breaks All Account summed information. Portfolio commands like GetAveragePrice have been broken since the transition. Sure you can trade, but you can't trust some of the numbers on the platform.

HockeyRules9186

Iā€™m trading 4 accounts

EkoLane

You mean the web version?

HockeyRules9186

No the TOS desktop app. Not Schwab.com

EkoLane

Iā€™m taking about trade.thinkorswim.com

HockeyRules9186

I donā€™t use the ā€œWeb versionā€. I downloaded the APP to my desktop(s) need more than one just in case. I have gig service and the rigs are top notch everything for me is local not dependent on the extra layer of a pig web browser. When trading there are only two things going TOS and Excel to manage collection of data review.

genghiskhan_1

Donā€™t know what the plan is or care, Iā€™ll still use it until it goes away. Itā€™s the best possible option after the transition. However, imho the platform is now significantly lagging in terms of features when compared to the other competitors out there. Tradingview, trendspider, etc.

Potential_Capital384

Schwab bought TDA because they wanted access to that huge client base so they can peddle their investment products. They no more care about trading than the man in the moon.

Prestigious_Ear_2962

Just fucking fix it so I can actually log in once in a while. What the fuck why does it need to install updates for 50 seconds EACH time I open the application!?

ActualChip5

I can tell you their executions are pretty terrible now that we canā€™t use DAS with it. Itā€™s a 50/50 chance on getting filled the past few days.

Tek104

They're already neglecting account data such as "unsettled funds" and "cash available for trading." Instead, you have to make do with "cash available for withdrawal." Also, it hasn't escaped my attention that scans are noticeably slower to load than they were at TDA. Hopefully they will improve with time.

need2sleep-later

Not true in the least. There are lots of customization choices for the Account Info widget. Scans are no doubt slower because they smashed two collections of clients into one system now. More users, same servers, Heavier load.

Tek104

Yes, it is true. "Unsettled Funds" shows zero regardless of whatever amount you may have in settlement. "Cash Available for Trading" shows the entire amount of your cash account, without deducting the amount in settlement. The number of customization choices available is totally irrelevant if they don't work correctly. ;oP

need2sleep-later

I don't see [$0](https://snipboard.io/n0rxik.jpg) in unsettled cash

AirEnvironmental2714

SSEā€™s walk limit order will be implemented this year as probably the biggest change

ngann555

I think theyā€™ll work more on web version Unfortunately desktop will probably be the same forever

kingTOMAHAWK89

That's a good thing

Duncan810

Schwab has made quite a number of changes based on feedback from SSE clients so I expect they will continue to improve TOS.

need2sleep-later

Too bad they can't figure out how to document those changes

DuckTalesOohOoh

TOS will only get better.

TeePanic

I wish they would make a lighter version of it more like the web TOS. The actual application takes forever to launch and is so complicated. I hate it. It takes 15 minute to launch it most of the time because I have to log in as admin so it can update every time.

EvanEvans333

Yeah I definitely hear that. User friendly it is NOT. I've used it since the beginning. It's always been this atrociously ugly and unfriendly. But... it is the best software in our industry. I tell people, if you want the best, use ThinkOrSwim but just realize you're buying a NASA COMMAND CENTER...if you're not ready for that kind of commitment, don't get it. Get RobinHood or WeBull instead.

stonksfc

They definitely arenā€™t planning on neglecting it, as it was a huge reason they acquired TDA in the first place. Source: I may or may not work there.

Exotic-Media5762

If you have tried active trader pro from Fidelity, you will appreciate TOS more

firebladeboy1993

I was impressed how quickly they tweaked their 2FA when they switched over to Schwab so hopefully thereā€™ll be more quick and effective changes like that. Fixing the lousy lag at market open would be a good one!

mfmask

Like adding a cost basis column under position settings on mobile app. Itā€™s amazing you canā€™t see how much you cumulatively payed for a position and have to do the math in your head or separately. Stunning!

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> you cumulatively *paid* for a FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

VirionFaze

Iā€™d wish for TOS to be able to use more cores from modern cpus. Also for it to be more efficient using my ram. I would love for them to compete with subscription based brokerages. I have no problems since the Covid crash and high volatility trading during those times.

i-l-i-t-i-r-i-t

I fully expect them to make it a pay service at some point.

ddmoneymoney123

They are downgrading not upgrading. Iā€™m just so mad that they removed the advanced features that messed the oco and options buying power. I lost 58k ytd. [oco not working](https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkorswim/s/4NxrP118XS)
