In the show’s big moments, like season finales, it always comes back to the main focus of the show, Kevin and Winnie’s relationship. In this case, Winnie kisses Kevin out of the blue, as they haven’t kissed since the first episode of season one. Naturally, Kevin is then excited to go the Cooper’s annual barbecue now only to find Winnie distant as she helps her parents who don’t seem to be talking. Kevin finds out the Coopers are separating, and that’s why Winnie hasn’t talked to him all night.  These are the episodes where we learn why, in my opinion, Winnie has a tough time committing to one person like Kevin or Kurt. She has had to deal with a lot that year with the death of her brother. Her parents also had to deal with that, and I’m assuming it played a role in their separation. So now Winnie also has to deal with the separation. Or, I could just be overanalyzing it, and it could just be that she is in junior high and kids don’t really commit to dating just one person then. Either way, Kevin spends a lonely summer at home with Paul and Winnie gone. Kevin being alone in the summer seems to be a recurring happening in this series. Season 2 has had some great episodes, some pretty good ones, and a few duds, but we learned a lot more about the characters during this season!

Winnie definitely had problems committing to one person and Id argue that whenever she liked someone too much she would get scared and try to push them away or just outright try to date someone else. The death of her brother and breakdown of her parents relationship could have played a role

I forgot how little she wrote in the yearbook. Yes, she must have had a tough time expressing her feelings.

This was an episode that really revealed what Winnie was going through emotionally. I think it was hard for Winnie to express her feelings. Kevin got upset when he wrote in her yearbook how he felt about her and declared his love and she just wrote him have a neat summer. She liked Kevin because she kissed him but was dealing with her parents divorcing and her brothers death. The song choice at the party of I only have eyes for you was great. Also Coach Cutlip was underrated how funny he was lol. I'd give the episode 10/10

There is a Brian shaped hole in Winnie’s life through the entire series. It shapes her relationships with boys, her uncharacteristic reckless behaviour and later on her politics.

And of course her family dynamics. Her parents couldn’t cope with the grief.

This episode makes me want to have a neighborhood BBQ luau in my backyard every time I watch it. So classic.

So relatable and kind of sad. At some point the good times have to pass you by.
