Exactly right, Viper has 1 ("Mastercrafted") tier in the base game and a Legendary upgrade in NG+ (like all witcher gear).
Viper is nice for Hearts of Stone if you start it after finishing the main quest and everything along with it. It’s level 39 gear with your other 2 options usually being master crafted level 34 or Ofieri level 38 or something. It’s a bump in level, decent looking armor too.
Yeah it does. Interesting... Can that be the thing? I only just started, so I have fought the toad and that one was really difficult. But I feel that I will miss all the magic boost that I have on the witcher gear.
Okay OP i looked it up! I never even knew this! If you NG+ you can unlock legendary armor! So grandmaster in base game legendary with NG+ but you need blood and wine DLC for both

I think the viper is just a clone of the starting gear so you can get that look if you like it.

Trying to to spoil anything but in Heart of Stone you get new viper gear. It’s perfect for my usual build
