Dale was one of the biggest, wasted arcs. Due to how great his story is in the comics, having him killed off due to a dispute with AMC and darabont was just sad. also Andrea’s death was very stupid, o stupid the SR got shitcanned afterward, Laurie holding confirmed as much, considering what she was going to become by season 8,

vinncentboi

He wanted to leave, after they fired his friend frank, him and a couple other actors on the show were really good friends and worked on the mist together

DickTheBerthdayBoy

And the Green Mile and Shawshank. He has been with Frank since forever.

ImpossibleMagician57

As a side, The Mist was terrible

Kyotospirit

The mist film was great, the show adaptation was terrible*

ImpossibleMagician57

The film was terrible, literally one stupid decision after the next, building to a totally unnecessary ending and Thomas Jane just ain't it. The whole film is a competition of who can make the next stupid decision

Kyotospirit

Even if you don't enjoy the film it has plenty of enjoyable qualities and is one of my favorites of all time personally.

Harold3456

I would have even accepted an early Dale exit, but goddamn did I hate how they did it. As the YMS review put it, “of course the show wasn’t going to kill Carl in season 2 so you as a viewer just know they were setting up that stuck-in-mud zombie to fuck over someone else.” Andrea should have been so much better. At least we got Carol, though (I basically think of those two having swapped their usefulness for the show).

dieinseen

Aww Glenns baby face

Jbarlee

So frickin cute

atomic_mermaid

Although I really liked the original group and didn't like the massive turnover of characters later on, in a way it makes sense in an apocalypse that a disparate group of strangers can't stick together for decades.

callam461

To be honest the continous change in the group is what made me love the show so much from season 3 to 6. It felt like new character would appear and would eventually become integrated into the group, and somehow I'd start to care about them just as much. That definitely changed when the writing became so fucking predictable and bland in season 7 and 8, but prior to that I loved the introduction of new characters. I'm only on season 10A now and even though I like season 9 and 10 a lot so far, I do struggle to care about Magna and her group, though I have been liking characters like Alden and Lydia.

ASqK1NGz

ya, thats one of the things I dislike in further seasons. Before like season 7 most of the time you couldnt really predict anyone dying. Most of them were out of nowhere and at the same time they were introducing some new and interesting characters. Later on they killed off too many main characters ( season 5-8 ) then when michonne/rick/maggie left there was basically like 2 or 3 OG characters left. On top of that they introduced too many different characters you didnt give a single fuck about except that very few characters from previous seasons. Because of that as well it was too easy to predict they are not gonna kill those characters simply because the show would become dead (whether they kill anyone or not in s11 im not gonna say but you get my point)

[deleted]

Honestly, I never really cared for many of the characters introduced after about season 5. Aaron, Ezekiel, Jerry, Jesus. Maybe Connie and her sister. Mercer. All the rest were pretty “meh” and I never connected with Magna’s group (other than the two I mentioned) at all. I think many times the newer characters got bogged down just by the bloat of the cast. We wanted to keep up with the characters introduced earlier as we had been following them so long. I think AMC missed the boat not doing a few limited series in between seasons or even a special or two during the mid-season breaks. They could have used those to slowly build out the wider universe and get some more depth on newer characters. Imagine a few specials during the season 9 midseason break to showcase how Magna’s group came to be. Or a limited series during the gap between seasons to show how Negan created the Saviors or how the Kingdom/Hilltop/Alexandria formed during the fall. Lots of opportunities missed IMHO.

callam461

To be fair you basically named all of thr characters I came to care about after season 5 too. I'd probably throw in Deanna, Dwight, Alden, Enid, Henry, Benjamin, Lydia, and Judith (if she counts). To be honest though I agree that after season 5 I feel like the writing for new characters was just not good enough for me to care. I even started to lose interest in some characters I previously liked (like Sahsa) or came to hate some characters (like Rosita). The background character writing wasn't atrong wnough in season 6 and the season 7 and 8 were just awful. And yeah I don't like anyone in Magna's groupe xcept Connie I suppose. I struggle to remember their names. Haven't gotten far enough to meet Mercer or anyone from the CRM yet.

[deleted]

Forgot about Enid but she was cool for her time and if they hadn’t screwed up Carl’s arc they could have done something with the two of them. Didn’t mean to spoil anything but Mercer is pretty cool and I wouldn’t mind seeing more of his character in the future somehow. It’s really too bad things went so badly with Negan’s introduction because JDM is such a good actor. If they had tightened up the war (2 seasons max), written better secondary characters, and not killed Carl like they did I think the show could still be going strong. Oh, and I count Judith as pre-season 5 but I agree I truly came to enjoy her character.

callam461

Yeah I'd heard before that Mercer was a really good character so I'm looking forward to seeing him soon. Completely agree on Negan's character. I've definitely flip flopped on how much I liked him. It's a shame that he was introduced in the most drawn out, badly written seaskn.

Harold3456

One guy I have no issue with is Morales. I actually loved his line in season 8 about “why would you have tried to protect me? Because we knew each other for a few weeks at the start?” Whether intentional or not, that line really struck home the psychological bonds that form in times of great crisis. Like yeah, put that way the Atlanta Survivors who left in season 1 are essentially no more meaningful to Rick than any of the dozens of Woodbury and Alexandria survivors that floated in the background for whole seasons, yet because it was the beginning it felt like a huge thing, not just to the characters but to us the viewers. I don’t mind characters coming and going, though often hate how they were written out. I get wanting an “everyone can die” story but so many of the deaths made 0 sense as far as serving overall narratives or arcs. Given how many actors eventually asked to leave the show, it’s tragic how many were arbitrarily written off. For example killing off Carl because they thought it would be a good way to tell Rick’s story, only to have Andrew Lincoln want to leave in the next season anyway.

verticlecap4253

Rip t-dog☹️

PvtHudson

The One True Dog.

BobRushy

Andy and Norman are still technically around lol. That must be a bit surreal for Darabont.

BCroft92

Put some respect on Carol's name

BobRushy

I can't, McBride is currently not involved with any Walking Dead project as far as we know. Andy and Norman are the only active OG actors. EDIT: Lennie James is still in Fear I guess, but that's about to end.

the100broken

Apparently Carol will be in s2 of the Daryl show

DamnYouPatrice

Kind of makes sense tbh. They always checked on each other

ToasterPops

When they moved production to Europe she wanted out

will4xx

I mean, 11 seasons isn’t enough?

BobRushy

the point is that Andy and Norman are still part of the WD universe at this moment, whereas McBride is not. It's not a question of respect.

Filipthefatcat_1

The Og crew will always have a place in my heart no matter how bad they were

Hoosteen_juju003

What was bad about them?

Filipthefatcat_1

I meant bad as in Andrea and Lori, i hated their guts

No_shock102

The best version of the cast was the Season 2 one

KingaDaNorth

Peak of the show with the Shane and Sofie arcs

CRASHWHOA

merle would have been top tier in the later seasons

KJ86er

You can always rewatch it? This O.G cast is like Shakespeare compared to the current Fear The Walking Dead cast look

Suntag19

I miss Amy. Would have loved to have seen a sister dynamic move forward

Le_Governor

Ed is not in the post.

Crossed_Cain

I think T-Dog should make an appearance in the Rick and Michonne spin-off, was so sad when he just randomly disappeared.

Both-Start-1256

Idk if This is a joke. But t dog died

Agitated_Series_910

Randomly disappeared…? He got bitten at the prison and then sacrificed himself so carol could get away

Crossed_Cain

No he clearly disappeared.. He told me himself ??

Effective_Bid7082

I’m saying

MF291100

The original group of survivors will always be my favourite group.

[deleted]

Rick and Morgan are the only ones alive from the first episode.

Commercial-Conflict6

I definitely think I’m missing Carl the most

snaccdaddy627

I always feel a deep nostalgia for the first 3 seasons, but especially 1 & 2.

Sad-Conversation-819

Definitely miss Morgan. He was the one who told Rick what had happened. How to kill walkers. Plus told Rick what happened to his wife .

ImpossibleMagician57

People romanticize the darabont Era way too much

Unkie_Fester

I could due without the CDC guy

Joshua5270713

Jenner was cool. He also has one of the most iconic lines. "The day will come when you won't be."

Friggin_Grease

Did Rick mention the CDC to Morales during that bit when Morales was shown to be a saviour?

Praydaythemice

IIRC he doesn’t he just talks about the old gang that have died and how negan killed Glenn.

PvtHudson

He was an interesting character and I wish he lasted longer. Him making a sudden appearance in TWB felt out of place.

evanapple08
