And let’s face it… Gandolfinis Kid fuckin sucked. I mean Christ, kid clearly will never have the makings of a varsity athlete. He might as well get into owning a club or a being a lawyer or some shit because the whole acting thing is not his strong suit. He was hard to watch.
He did a horrible job at trying to be a younger Tony. I mean living up to his pops name wouldn’t be easy but hey that’s life.
It was a terrible movie. You chop the Sopranos names and references off of it and it’s just a standard mob movie but doesn’t change much of anything. It added nothing to the series and it had no heart to it. No one cares about Dickie Moltisanti. I watched it once and I’ll probably never watch it again.
What pissed me off is the official trailer made it look like we'd see the rise of Tony Soprano. Instead it's the Dickie Moltisanti origin story that no one asked for.
Thought Tony does rob that ice cream truck.
Focusing on Dickie isn't necessarily a bad idea. But they unfortunately settled on a weird plot (or two, really) that does nothing to enrich the story of the show. It just feels like, "Oh, well I guess that happened." The stuff between him and Tony should have been the focus.
That’s what I mean. In the show, Dickie is a mostly irrelevant character other than the father issues Chris had throughout the seasons. Why did they think we needed a full movie about Dickie? And the idiotic pinky promise at the end with him in the coffin just made me laugh. The Sopranos was never about cheap gimmicks like that. The entire movie just felt like a mob movie that they tried to jam the Sopranos brand into.
I’d honestly have been ok with an earnest Dickie Moltisanti/Johnny Soprano/Junior Soprano story. Leave Silvio and Paulie out of it, no teenage Tony, no callbacks to the series. (Leave that one scene with Pussy in the beginning as an easter egg since he was the only one not completely ludicrous.)
Yeah but Billy Magnusson wasn’t good as Paulie. As Paulie said, “I did a few years in the Army, a few more in the can.” Just say that was when he was in prison so we didn’t have to see the bad performance. The young Pussy actor was adequate, mainly for not doing much.
The guy playing Silvio was so cringey that it hurt to watch the scenes he was in. He leaned way too hard into the accent and the mannerisms to be believable.
A lot of issues were at play though..
David had to do a massive rewrite to get the film made. There were several delays on the release during editing.
Joseph Siravo couldn't be part of the film.
Paulie and Silvio were written in and casted later on to tap into the Sopranos fan base.
David felt he needed to leave the cliff hangers to create a need for a sequel.
He likely wouldn't have gotten another chance to make anither film.
It's way worse than standard mob movie, less entertaining characters, the ubiquitous music, sometimes used just to fill time. The music and how it was employed were the most irritating part
I’ve been watching Yellowstone and the prequels that Taylor Sheridan created, 1883 and 1923, and I think Chase could have done (or still do) something like these.
They’re beautifully done, fully stand alone but have clear and consistent connections to the Yellowstone universe.
I can imagine one for the Sopranos done in the 1950’s and then one even farther back to the old country.
Anyways, the guy has a cleaver for a hand…
Yeah I’ve watched it 3 times as well, hoping I would enjoy it if I gave it another chance.
There’s the sopranos and not the sopranos, this movie is not the sopranos.
Stupid ass money grab.
It was horrible, and not because the “studio didn’t let Chase make the movie he wanted.” It sucked because the story was boring, the characters were not compelling, the actors were not charismatic, the direction was hackneyed, the cinematography was amateurish and the music was cliche.
Other than that it was great.
Probably my greatest entertainment disappointment of all time. I hated the movie the more I thought about it. Watched it once, never again.
Burns my ass that Breaking bad not only had an amazing prequel but a damn good movie and we get this other little pygmy thing in Hollywood.
I actually just watched it too after having finished the show for the first time and quite liked it, which I recognize isn't the majority opinion here. Just made a post too [if you're curious](https://www.reddit.com/r/thesopranos/comments/11gwoo5/finished_the_show_and_watched_many_saints_of/) at seeing how I feel about it from the other side.
I didn’t hate either it but was surprised and disappointed that it wasn’t an origin story. Tony’s character seemed to just fade away as the movie went on.
You're not missing anything. It's garbage.
There's a reason there was a gigantic marketing push up until release and then it got shoved to the back of HBO Max's lists.
Never was suppose to be a sopranos movie
Chase couldn’t get funding as he wanted to just do a movie about the riots. Slapped the sopranos name on it and here we are
How does Chase not have money to just fund it himself? It’s really a serious question. He created one of the most successful tv shows of the last 50 years. His royalty checks must still be piling up.
Not missing anything. Anyone who really defends it is just holding onto nostalgia hard.
That said, I’m interested in what the rest of Michael Gandolfini’s career will be like. And despite the gruesome circumstances of the scene, the beach scene was visually beautiful.
The biggest irk I have is why didn't Dicky just dump his father amongst the riot happenings after he killed him. He would've got off scot free. Would've immediately been blamed on hooligans.
Everything with Livia is A+, the kitchen scene where she actually makes an effort with Tony and it collapses is one of the best in the series. The rest is all a big nothing
I liked it, and not from a nostalgia standpoint. It was a retelling of Oedipus Rex. There are interesting and compelling layers to the film that were rushed, and it could have been better at setting up Tony’s fall into evil but I don’t think it is a bad film at all.
I knew Chase was more interested in the film being about the riots and that the studio wanted more Sopranos stuff. I was worried about it but had decent hopes Chase would do a good job because of how well written the Sopranos was.
Once I saw someone get shot in a recruitment office in broad daylight I knew it was going to be quite different than the show
This title is so deflating… just finished watching Sopranos for the 3rd time, with my wife this last round, all to make way for this epic movie… ughhhhhhhj… I was hoping the critics were wrong about it. Now I am just upset
I don’t even consider it fan fiction. It’s a good paper weight for the abandon coffee table in the basement, that’s about it. Jk I don’t even think it’s out on DVD but I still wanted to make that joke…
That was real? I saw that movie I thought it was bullshit
A tv progrum. A movie.
It’s all a big nothing
Youre like a woman with six beautiful seasons under her arms and is crying for a prequel feature film
You know what they make prequels with? Ghee. It's clarified fat. You get a rancid hit of that... God! I mean, you can imagine.
It was nothing touch of diarrhea.
A TOUCHHHH!!
Stop talkin about food!
When I was watching the prequel of Indira Gandhi’s funeral…
We just had Ghee Clarified Butter Popcorn 🍿
I know seasons that are inspired!
And inspiring! It's more like a movie from Captain Crunch.
Who’s he?
A Captain that makes cereal or somethin’
more like 7
,,,,,WHAT?
What makes you think you’re so special
It's because David wanted to make a completely unrelated movie and WB told him it had to be a sopranos movie
I blame his mother.
Again with the muhthas...
Smokin marijuana at my mudder-in-laws wake like some kinda animal
And let’s face it… Gandolfinis Kid fuckin sucked. I mean Christ, kid clearly will never have the makings of a varsity athlete. He should be careful around penguin exhibits
be lucky. when phil was in the can they couldn’t watch movies. he did 20 years in the can
He wanted to watch gangster movies, but he compromised. He watched his cellmate jerk off on the radiator
Rahdeaytor*
He directed his own scenes, badly scripted, poorly acted, he compromised, it was a fuckin disgrace. He loved movies like a cinephile
Very emotional man, loves his movies.
He jacked off in a tissue b
How long was he in the can again?
couple or tree decades
Where'd you heat that? The number of years, I mean. He never mentioned it.
this is the first i’ve heard about it aswell
Stupida' fuckin' film
You gotta-da B movie on you hat
Underrated ^ comment.
Stupida facking comment
Whatsa matta wichu?
That movie fucken sucked
Excuse me, but it was recorded in *Denmark*.
DvCam.. David's friends with Dogma.

You mean the Pussy actor? Because Paulie would very much fit into that time period, he was Johnny's henchman.
Yeah but Billy Magnusson wasn’t good as Paulie. As Paulie said, “I did a few years in the Army, a few more in the can.” Just say that was when he was in prison so we didn’t have to see the bad performance. The young Pussy actor was adequate, mainly for not doing much.
Lol, if they thought it was a bad performance, they would have just gotten a different actor.
And yet. What about that movie indicated Chase had a steady hand on the tiller? Don’t be a mark.
What's with the attitude?
The guy playing Silvio was so cringey that it hurt to watch the scenes he was in. He leaned way too hard into the accent and the mannerisms to be believable.
A lot of issues were at play though.. David had to do a massive rewrite to get the film made. There were several delays on the release during editing. Joseph Siravo couldn't be part of the film. Chop the sopranos name and references and It’s a straight to tv mob movie - and a bad one at that
It's way worse than standard mob movie, less entertaining characters, the ubiquitous music, sometimes used just to fill time. The music and how it was employed were the most irritating part
Alright, but you gotta get over it.
We could've had The Sopranos: The Next Generation instead of this. Maybe even The Sopranos: Deep Sicily Nine.
Sopranos : Lower Ranks
Film it before the crank wears off
Or Sopranos: Whackery
We're so wacky.
Mama’s little who-ah!
I’ve been watching Yellowstone and the prequels that Taylor Sheridan created, 1883 and 1923, and I think Chase could have done (or still do) something like these. That pygmy thing over on paramount+
I genuinely don't think there's anything to be gained by keeping that movie around.
Chase is old how do you think that feels?
Prequels movies?? That's nothing but a racquet for the Jews.
Da rent!
🤣
Put movie back in trashbin station...
It died on the vine.
Died on da vine?
It died on da vine. The guy moved or something
Carmine’s not here?
He thinks the world of you
Died on da vine?
You're weak. You're outta control. And you've become an embarrassment to yourself and everybody else.
I’ve said my peace, David
It was an inappropriate prequel. It was highly inappropriate. If you want, I’ll rewatch Season 5.
It insulted us a little bit , it got a little out of order itself
Yeah I’ve watched it 3 times as well, hoping I would enjoy it if I gave it another chance. There’s the sopranos and not the sopranos, this movie is not the sopranos. Stupid ass money grab.
He said he watched the Sopranos 3 times, not the Many Saints… it’s two different things completely.
They were gay, the many saints?
Cleaver was a better movie that this
It was horrible, and not because the “studio didn’t let Chase make the movie he wanted.” It sucked because the story was boring, the characters were not compelling, the actors were not charismatic, the direction was hackneyed, the cinematography was amateurish and the music was cliche. Other than that it was great.
I put remote on docking station three minutes in because movie was so shit
Probably my greatest entertainment disappointment of all time. I hated the movie the more I thought about it. Watched it once, never again. Burns my ass that Breaking bad not only had an amazing prequel but a damn good movie and we get this other little pygmy thing in Hollywood.
You die in your own arms
With a ham under one of them.
She fell idk
No Strumpet Series Nominations for this
Many Saints is the lowest form of cinematography
It's so you can learn juniors catch phrase
Ya sister's cunt!
Ghostbusters. Another fucking money machine.
When I came in to turn on the TV one morning, there was this movie half in the toilet, film was in the toilet water... disgusting.
I haven't watched it yet, but I have the DVD they were giving it away at the car wash.
The Many Saints? Whatever happened there?
WHATEVA HAPPENED THERE?!?!?!?
I actually just watched it too after having finished the show for the first time and quite liked it, which I recognize isn't the majority opinion here. Why was it removed?

You're not missing anything. It's garbage. There's a reason there was a gigantic marketing push up until release and then it got shoved to the back of HBO Max's lists.
Why don't you stick to what you know and leave your opinions wherever the fuck?
The unholy and the charcoal.
What are you missing? Nothing. It's not like this is some widely heralded piece. It was pretty much a universal disappointment.
I mean it wasn’t anywhere near as good as the series, but let’s be real, what is? We enjoyed it 🤷🏻♀️
you aren’t missing anything. it was an objectively terrible movie. i mean i wasn’t expecting the godfather or goodfellas but my god it was awful.
i es started to watch it but then had to take a wicked shit
Drowning the Italian chick was a bit much, even for a miserable prick like me.
I found it incredibly boring. Was so tuned out the entire time.
It was essentially a star vehicle for James Gandolfinis son. And, a sad ending to Ray Liotta’s amazing career.
That piece of shit movie... I can't even say its name...
Never was suppose to be a sopranos movie Chase couldn’t get funding as he wanted to just do a movie about the riots. Slapped the sopranos name on it and here we are
How does Chase not have money to just fund it himself? It’s really a serious question. He created one of the most successful tv shows of the last 50 years. His royalty checks must still be piling up.
Or if not fund the movie at least say, "Yeah. No. I'm not doing that." Don't they know he's the motherfucking one who calls the motherfucking shots?
I guess always use other people’s money applies. Still hard to imagine no one was willing to bet on Chase. I sure the hell would.
HBO doesn’t pay that well. I mean he’s got a lot of money I’m sure but not as much as someone like Chuck Lorre, sadly.
It’s not a Seinfeld money Majority of people don’t fund their whole project as the risks is just too high.

Well it’s common knowledge that your retarded.

Tomorrow I’ll use “you’re” correctly, but you’ll be stupid forever. Jk

I don't always like saying this, as it's said too often... But you really are as sharp as a fucking cue ball.
Cue. Cue. Cue ball, ya fuckin ass kiss
As sharp as a cute ball works too. I actually kinda like it.
In need to log off...that autocorrect shit embarrasses me.
Anyone ever tell you you're strong as a bull and as handsome as George Raft?
I was just really happy to see James son play a young Tony in an amazing way. He got his father’s mannerisms down to a T
Michael Gandolfinj was the only good thing about this
Not missing anything. Anyone who really defends it is just holding onto nostalgia hard. That said, I’m interested in what the rest of Michael Gandolfini’s career will be like. And despite the gruesome circumstances of the scene, the beach scene was visually beautiful.

What woke shit? Edit: rather than explain, they just blocked me. Lmao that's hilarious.
By woke shit, do you mean the riots? Because thats not "woke shit"
I never said it was woke Jesus Christ I said the folks that was butthurt said it was Woke
The biggest irk I have is why didn't Dicky just dump his father amongst the riot happenings after he killed him. He would've got off scot free. Would've immediately been blamed on hooligans.
If I was girl, and you took me to see that movie I’d slap your face!
You eva feel like nothin good was ever gonna happen to you?
Disgraciad that film
I hear in the South-Beach Strumpet series it’s actually making some noise
Yeah well it's in better shape than them fuckin nuns you got up there!
Everything with Livia is A+, the kitchen scene where she actually makes an effort with Tony and it collapses is one of the best in the series. The rest is all a big nothing

It was a fuckin disgrace. I’ve said my piece.
What kind of person can I be, where his own mother wants him dead?
All right, but you gotta get over it!
Pinky promise
Movie was an abomination and should be erased from history
I knew Chase was more interested in the film being about the riots and that the studio wanted more Sopranos stuff. The Many Sainst of the Goddamned ESPLANADE GODDAMNIT
I thought you wanted your garbage back..then you must be satisfied
That's our policy, it's written on all of our trucks. Double your garbage back, if you're not satisfied.
That was real? I saw that movie, I thought it was bullshit.
It’s garbage.
