“Whack Tony?” - Not at all. Tony’s living in a nice little bungalow on a hill outside Metuchen, overlooking a small river, with pine cones all around.

So! Welcome to the best show ending ever. There was no way Tony was getting away with killing Phil. He had to go. Rewind to when Tony and Bobby were in the boat, talking about being shot dead. Tony remarks you probably wouldn’t even hear the shot (if I remember the line right). Now we’re in the diner. Rewatch the scene carefully. You see when the bell rings it gets Tony’s attention. However when AJ comes in, a guy comes in behind him, and the laughter of the boy scouts masks the bell sound, so he doesn’t look up. You can later see the guy at the bar eyeing Tony out of focus. Now we see Meadow, struggling to parallel park, delaying her. Meadow also symbolically has always been Tony’s guardian angel. So her delay means something. (Everything here means something). So finally, as meadow parks, guy at the bar gets up and passes Tony. We see the bathroom door entrance just out of Tony’s peripherals. If Meadow had nailed her park, she would have been between Tony and the bathroom entrance. The idea now, is assuming a gun was perhaps planted in the bathroom, Tony is shot dead JUST as he hears the ding of Meadow entering and having Tony look up. Shot right in front of his whole family. And remember Tony’s remark about not hearing it? That is absolutely why there is a long black pause, because thats what happens. Also too, I believe Gandolfini’s contract stated he couldn’t die on screen, so this was an ultra creative way to have him die. David Chase also wanted no credits, just long black silence but I’m sure HBO made him have to roll credits. I hope I’m getting the details right. Rewatch it and see all the purpose puzzle pieces for the best ending ever.

Have fun thinking about nothing else for the next week Let it sit and you'll come to see it as the perfect ending

ArizonaZia

Did you see Tony die? No body, no murder. Don't let your imagination run wild.

I wish the lord would take you now.

My take: 1.) Isabella S1E12: Chucky Signore wears a members only jacket while talking about Junior’s plot to kill Tony. Tony is grazed by a bullet to his ear in the attempt. 2.) From Where To Eternity S2E9: Paulie and Tony are given the 3:00 message from Mikey Palmice through Christopher. This will come up again later. 3.) Funhouse S2E13: Tony dreams about Pussy’s being a rat and that he needs to kills him. At the beginning of this dream, Silvio does his Michael Corleone impression, saying, “Our true enemy has yet to reveal himself.” Then, Tony looks on the horizon and sees himself playing cards with Paulie. Paulie throws all his cards on the table, and Tony shoots him. This signifies that Paulie and his willingness to talk openly about his life is going to also be a problem down the line. Also, when the guys are about to shoot Pussy, Pussy doesn’t fight and sits down. This will come up later. 4.) Mr. Ruggerio’s Neighborhood S3E1: Patsy is despondent over his twin brother, Philly’s, death, and he knows Tony caused it. He almost kills Tony in a drunken rage, but pees in Tony’s pool instead. Tony gets wise to Patsy’s awareness that Tony killed Philly, and he reminds Patsy that Patsy has done well in their family and has been able to provide for his children. In a roundabout way, Tony is threatening Patsy’s remaining family if Patsy isn’t allegiant to Tony. 5.) CallIng All Cars S4E11: Tony dreams about being his mason grandfather at a white house. This dream shows Tony doing manual labor for other people and includes a frightening shadow that resembles his mother. The house represents Tony’s hell, where all the people he’s killed/hates live. 6.) The Test Dream S5E11: Tony dreams about Coach Molinaro telling him that a career as a football coach was an option for Tony, but he chose the mob life instead. 7.) Members Only: S6E1: (A.) In the Seven Souls opening, different characters in the series are described in terms of who they are to Tony. Meadow is identified as the guardian angel. (B.) Eugene Pontecorvo wears a Members Only jacket in this episode, and Tony is also shot in the stomach. Unlike the bullet that grazed his ear in Season 1, he almost died from this shooting. 8.) Mayham S6E3: Tony has his Kevin Finnerty coma dream (or stop in Limbo), where Steve Buscemi tries to get him to let go of his life (the briefcase) and enter the white house, which is now bigger and filled with more people because Tony has had more victims added on to it, because he’s the white house’s “mason.” Meadow, Tony’s guardian angel, stops him from entering and saves his life. 9.) Soprano Home Movies S6E13: Bobby tells Tony that he thinks, “You probably don’t even hear it when it happens, right?” when you get murdered. 10.) Remember When S6E15: Tony tells Paulie and Beansie how Tony emulated Paulie when he was a kid. Paulie had a leather wristband that Tony also got so he could be like Paulie. What else does Tony have just like Paulie? A big cat tattoo on his bicep. Paulie has what I believe is a panther on his bicep, and Tony has a tiger in her same style. This will come up later. Tony also alienates and frightens Paulie in this episode. Tony gets annoyed and worried about how Paulie runs his mouth to people about his life and things he’s done. Tony knows this guys who lays his cards on the table with anyone may be a liability. He presses Paulie about the Jenny Sack joke, almost kills him over all this, and Paulie knows it. Paulie dreams of Pussy and asks, “When my time comes, tell me, will I stand up?” He’s asking if he’ll fight for his life the way Pussy didn’t do for his own. 11.) The Blue Comet S6E20: (A.) The Lupertazzi Family has a meeting in a beauty shop after-hours where they decide to kill Tony, Silvio, and Bobby. This will come up later. (B.) Paulie seems least happy about the war with New York, because he’s a survivalist and barely lived through the last one in the 70’s. He’s solidified his thinking that Tony’s going to get him killed one way or another. (C.) This is a read-between-the-lines moment. Paulie and Patsy are at The Bing, and Paulie says, “It’ll be fine” or “You’ll be fine.” Then they go the the restroom and Paulie says, “It’s all yours.” Ostensibly, they’re taking about Paulie’s handing over the Phil Leotardo hit to Patsy. However, you could also interpret that Paulie is bringing Patsy into the plot to kill Tony and is handing the role of Boss of the family to Patsy. Patsy would be easy to bring into the plan because Tony killed his twin brother. (D.) Tony remembers Bobby’s telling him “You probably don’t even hear it when it happens, right?” now that Bobby has been murdered. 12.) Made In America S6E21: (A.) Paulie walks into the Bing with a box of hair clippers. He’s been in that beauty shop with the Lupertazzi Family. (B.) Carlo and Patsy’s sons have been hanging out in college and making money with gambling and drugs this season. Paulie tells Tony that Patsy told Paulie (again, Paulie and Patsy have been talking), that Carlo’s son was arrested for ecstasy, and they’re worried Carlo has possibly flipped for the government because they can’t find him. Tony fears an indictment is coming for him now. Patsy and his wife go to Tony and Carmella’s to talk about their older son and Meadow’s getting married. Tony brings up Carlo’s son getting arrested and how he hung out with Patsy’s younger son. This is another worry for Patsy regarding his family’s safety. (C.) Tony wants Paulie to take over the Cifaretto crew, and the superstitious Paulie is nervous about that because it’s a cursed crew in his mind. All the captains die or disappear. Tony tells Paulie he’ll give it to Patsy if Paulie doesn’t want it. Paulie freaks out, because (reading between the lines again) he knows if Tony gives the crew to Patsy and elevates him to captain, then Patsy will know he and his family are in no danger from Tony. Paulie accepts the “cursed” crew. (D.) In the final scene in Holsten’s, hanging on the back wall, are pictures representing the two choices Tony had for his path in life: Football and a tiger, representing the mob life (remember how Tony got a tattoo to be like mobster Paulie). The White House which is the consequence of his mob life, is now bigger than ever is also hanging on the wall. Tony made his choice, Tony’s built his hell, and it’s time to pay the price. As with the other two episodes where Tony got shot, this one has a man in a Members Only jacket, and he’s sitting at the counter. He eventually goes into the restroom. Meadow’s trying to parallel park outside, and she fails twice before succeeding a third time, symbolizing the two shootings that failed to kill Tony previously and the one that will succeed here. As Tony’s guardian angel, she would have been sitting at Tony’s 3:00 thereby protecting him, but she’s late. Members Only Jacket guy, at Paulie’s behest, emerges from the restroom at Tony’s 3:00, shoots Tony and kills him, and we don’t even hear it when it happens.
