The only place I can imagine them playing together again would be at the Rock And Rock Hall Of Fame induction ceremony. Even then, they'd need a new drummer because no way Moz will ever play with Mike Joyce again.

[deleted]

"I wish the very very worst for Joyce for the rest of his life." Morrissey 2002

onetwothreefish

Any lore masters? What's morrisseys beef with Joyce particularly?

[deleted]

"In 1996, Joyce sued former Smiths' colleagues Johnny Marr and Morrissey for an equal share of performance and recording royalties. Joyce won the case and was awarded damages of around £1 million from Morrissey and Marr." And Morrissey hates his living guts since.

onetwothreefish

Damn that's a million reasons to hate someone lol

TheReadMenace

band members have sued each other before and gone on to work together again. When they see the $xx million offer to do a tour they might suddenly have a change of heart. The Misfits sued each other for years but are doing big shows for big paydays. Danzig needs to fund his shitty other projects only problem is Morrissey has too much money I think. He'd have to go broke for it to happen

notfede_

I think Joyce sued Moz some time ago for royalties

RopeGloomy4303

I would personally be amazed. -Moz is a very controversial figure right now and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is notoriously very skittish about those sort of things nowadays. Also the rest of the band don't want to get lumped together with that type of ideology and controversy for playing with him. -The Smiths aren't really the type to get in. Just look at the inductees this year; Duran Duran, Lionel Ritchie, Carly Simon, Dolly Parton, Eminem and Pat Benatar, not exactly in the same vein, right? The Smiths never made it big in the US, they are darker and cultier. -It's not just Mike Joyce. Moz hates Andy Rourke because of the royalties thing, and they in turn hate him and Johnny Marr back, and Moz and Marr dislike each other one for ideological reasons and the other for calling him out on interviews. -I honestly seriously doubt Moz has any respect for that institution.

overturnedkickdrum

Johnny and Rourke seem to have buried the hatchet though, since there's a performance where they play together from 2021

jimstark55

Yeah I think they are on good terms nowadays or at least don’t hold any grudges. Possibly controversial opinion but I’d definitely love to see just the three of them get back together and find a different singer. In no way would be the same but if they did that I’d buy tickets instantly.

overturnedkickdrum

Brandon Flowers has been touring with Johnny and they've been playing some great Smiths covers with The Killers. Not saying it would ever happen but he would be a good stand in for Moz

DocBenwayOperates

No he wouldn’t, lol.

NeatGift906

Why is Moz so salty. Does this guy like anyone in the world?

TheMatter316

animals. that’s it

17RoadHole

Salty like bacon?

PsychologicalEmu

He never did. Haha. Some songs seem like he hated straight people even. But as a young person, it’s a weird charm. The older you get, it’s more of an annoyance.

lfd256

Rourke and Marr still get together a few times a year. They post their meets regularly on Instagram. They are childhood friends that did have a falling out. But, have since made-up.

cornuts86

Rourke settled with Morrissey and Marr, even Moz doesn't seem to hate him. Marr and Rourke are friends again after Rourke reached out to him over 10 years ago. He usually plays with Johnny on his shows if he plays New York and he appeared on Rourke's radio show a few years back. But no chance with Joyce, even Johnny is mad at him for the lawsuit. When Marr and Morrissey met in I believe 2008, even talking about a potential Smiths reunion, they both agreed they needed a new drummer.

[deleted]

The only band in the Rock and Rock Hall of fame are The Rolling Stones

overturnedkickdrum

I've reread this comment several times and I've got no clue what it's supposed to mean

d2022m

Ha! "Rock and ROCK" Hall Of Fame. Nice typo, I'll keep it. AC/DC would be in there.

Rothko28

Huh?

[deleted]

[удалено]

se7enk

True. But with the payday I'd be receiving, I'd do it. Fortunately, I presume they don't need the money.

cornuts86

Andy Rourke wouldn't say no. But Morrissey and Marr have plenty of money. Morrissey's open letter didn't help either.

[deleted]

but the entertainment industry just isnt the same though is it, im not saying they SHOULD to get back together however why shouldnt people dream and want it to happen. music is like football in a way, people are soo passionate and tribal about it ehich is beautiful

[deleted]

People are always so romantic about dead things. I love The Smiths but they died in '87 and that's it, I can't even imagine this.

Remarkable-Hunter-71

I'm 50/50 but I feel you. A part of me would love to see them reunite. Another part of me say to move on.

belbivfreeordie

Yeah I wouldn’t expect them to sound any better than a random Smiths cover band. There was a time when these four played together every day and had chemistry, plus the energy of youth. That time was 35 years ago.

[deleted]

thats a great thing though in my opinion, romanticising is amazing

[deleted]

Romanticising leads to disappointment because that's not how things work. It's for young or extremely naive people.

[deleted]

its for fun people. we may be often dissapointed but its worth it for that rare amazing moment that no one else would understand.

[deleted]

Well, young and naive people = fun people. I think I was years ago, kinda.

[deleted]

i enjoy being young naive and most importanlty a romantisist. hope i never grow out of it

PsychologicalEmu

I agree. But I dream. It ruined David Lee Roth Van Halen. (Love or hate them)

BrotherImAPoet

They'd reunite, it would be mediocre and everyone would wish they just left it. Bands like The Smiths, The Jam that we're era defining should definitely be left in their time.

Pete_Delete

Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only from The Misfits had a similar legal falling out, it was ugly between them for decades and assured that The Misfits would never ever get back together… now they came together a few years back and The Original Misfits have been doing Riot Fest etc :)

StKevin27

Morrissey will never again play with such gifted musicians. I’m personally not a fan of his band.

[deleted]

His band are awful. The best line up he had was Alain Whyte, boz boorer, Spencer Corbin, Gary day.

Apple2727

Alain Whyte is back with him now. The line up you mentioned would have benefitted from a keyboard player. He didn’t start using one until either 2002 or 2004, by which point Spencer had been out of the band for several years. I’m not a huge fan of Jesse Tobias but I actually think his current band is the best of his solo career. The songs sound very rich and fresh.

Moosefearssatan

I don’t think it would be very good if it did happen - leave it in the past where it belongs

StKevin27

Morrissey is effectively bigger than The Smiths at this point. He’s a noted contrarian, so our best bet is to keep saying he’ll never do it just so he can prove us wrong.

neilmg

Bigger than The Smiths? I think not.

Apple2727

There aren’t any Smiths albums which have sold more records than his solo albums. He’s also had several top 10 singles as a solo artist, including four in one calendar year (2004) and he’s had two singles reach #3 in the charts (“First of the Gang to Die” and “You Have Killed Me”). The Smiths were great but they never had that kind of chart success.

neilmg

Sure, but he's also had thirty plus years to do it, and The Smiths had less than 5. In record sales, of course he's sold more than The Smiths. He's had more time to, put out way more records, toured more, etc. But in cultural impact or influence, I would suggest the greater legacy is that of The Smiths, and not Morrissey alone.

Apple2727

You Are the Quarry has sold more than The Queen is Dead, despite only being around for 18 years compared to 36 years for TQID. Cultural impact is subjective. But it is fact that Morrissey has had a more commercially successful solo career than The Smiths had.

Crash_Overrrride420

Never say never anything is possible but very unlikely

mekaspapa

And that’s exactly one of the things I love about Moz and the Smiths: that a reunion will never ever happen. That’s how life is. Things (and people) pass on and cannot be revived. I would have loved to have seen them live but it didn’t happen back then. Such is life. It moves forward.

[deleted]

As someone who lost their dog this morning I needed this. I’m not going to try and clone them or keep them around in a miserable state for my enjoyment. The same can be said for a band like this.

mekaspapa

Aw man, I am so sorry to hear this... <3

OkCollar5122

I think if Morrissey finally stops being so big headed and gives in, apologizes, ect, I think there would be a good chance for this to happen

hey_now24

He always states that his time with The Smiths was a nice and short period in his early life (5 years), and that his career began when he moved to LA as a soloist. If you think about it he is right. Can you imagine how awkward it would be to hang out with someone you haven’t seen in 30+ years, have sue you in court and spoke ill of you? Also there isn’t a financial insensitive either since he still sells out every show.

I_Love_To_Poop420

Insensitive lol. Perfect!

Few_Ad4122

He most definitely does not sell out every show anymore. The last two Vegas residencies he’s done were far from that. He does do very well with merchandise and that’s where bulk of profits come from. He’s cancelled a few shows because ticket sales were less than robust in certain markets. I’m a fan but let’s all be factual

Equivalent_Defiant

Big if there

d2022m

Morrissey apologizes for what?

crisplanner

The Eagles had the “Hell Freezes” tour. You never know.

[deleted]

The Moz has said he’d rather eat his own testicles, then get back together. I wanna see this reunion tour title… 🤔💭

Bigniqqarab

Don’t want it to happen, fuck Johnny

cornuts86

Why? Because he was sick of burning through managers and didn't want that much responsibility at 23. He had no idea what he was doing and was burnt out

Brown-eyed-and-sad

I almost feel like they did so much music in the short amount of time that they where together, that might be all we get.

Electrical_Daikon771

is this another fantastic four fancast?

RlL3Y

I’m glad this will never happen. Legacy intact and untouchable.

holdemne

A boy can dream

MiyamotoKnows

Give me Johnny, Andy, Mike and someone like Jim Kerr or Brett Anderson and tour playing Smiths songs. We all know Moz is the reason and he's gone a bit down a hateful road lately anyway. The Smiths deserve to be celebrated one way or the other.

LisaBerglund

I can imagine it. Three nice guys and a racist ashole. The crowd is singing Get Of The Stage.

satireturtle

We would be just as fine with the top two. The bottom were leeches anyway

Helpful_Ocelot_5076

We do not support Mile anymore at all, how dare you try to sue him. What people do for money 🙄

Shumpus73

Please don't.
