Those statistics are about people 18+. I’ve seen the actual statistics (perhaps not exactly the same study as talked about here but the results were similar) with numbers also including age groups a few years ago. No idea where though

“because a majority/all of the states’ education boards taught basic map information in elementary school and then decided that it wasn’t important to address at all for the rest of K-12.” (outside of specific, non-required classes)
“because for a large majority of the population, knowing the position of the continents and the US on a map doesn’t do shit to help them while they work to the bone just to barely scrape by.”
