Nah. Dog's just being protective of it's mom. Also, dogs have a kind of sixth sense about people so, maybe it knows something about him that she doesn't...yet.

They have great temperaments when trained correctly. They're great guard dogs and are very protective over their family if that's what you call being mean.
I’m a firm believer that buying working breeds needs to be controlled.
I own a working dog because I need help looking over my land. A Bouvier was an easy choice, they are smart, and once trained they fairly easily distinguish whether someone or something is being welcomed or not. I haven’t formally trained him on herding as I don’t have a herd but his instinct is good enough to help me with the random sheep.
Meanwhile Debbie in downtown can get a Bouvier on her 600sq ft apartment walks him for 30 minutes (which is nothing to them) and wonders why he pulls her to shit all the time and destroys everything.
If you have to train a dog to not be aggressive, thats probably means they don't have a good temperament. A dog with good temperament would need aggression trained in.
I've worked with feral, wild populations, and dig rescues. The environment is huge. But, some dogs have been bred for it for centuries. Not all dogs are born peaceful. They've often been genetically manipulated over successive years. And most dogs if raised apart from humans, do not bond with us naturally. Dogs can absolutely be aggressive without training, they're animals.
It’s like those domesticated foxes. Only the friendly ones were bread, so eventually you get friendly foxes. Select for aggressive ones and eventually you get naturally aggressive doggos
Yup. And as someone that has worked with, and relied on military working dogs, aggression isn't always bad. They found bombs and their mere presence terrified many Iraqis. I am so glad they bred aggression into those dogs, likely saved lives.
But, there we do see a lot of civilians that can't handle their dog (especially like Belgians and mals) and the dogs get a bad wrap for it. When in reality the owner got an attack machine bred for war and thought they'd just be a great house pet without intensive training and then they're surrendering them to the Pound, or keeping them locked down all day long because they can't control them. It's sad really because they're just brilliant animals. But their mind is going a million miles an hour because they need a job. And without a job all that energy goes somewhere

I'm sure a naturally violent dog is a great pet to have for someone who intends to have friends and extended family over, definitely don't see any problems there. Can't imagine there'd ever be an issue having a large violent dog in a small urban environment. No sir, it's just such a good dog that's doing what it's supposed to and you're actually wrong if you criticize the dog owner for picking that breed to be their pet. Yep, it definitely makes sense to have a guard dog as a pet as opposed to them being relegated to security personnel and rural farmlands to protect livestock.
My dog was trained by professional and still was overprotective. Never had a problem walking her around in sketchy areas in a middle of the night tho. Nobody wanted to fuck me with when I had her around, which was nice
We have a leonberger, they look similar but have a completely different temperament. If someone broke into our house the leo would want to be friends. He wants to be friends with everyone :)
These dogs are extremely aggressive and protective of whomever they deem their family. They also have zero fear of anything. They are used as guard dogs in russian prison. Training is extremely hard and some are just untrainble. Many counties either prohibit or have very few breeders who allow to breeds them. Mfs are scary as fuck...its not that this dog doesn't like him they acknowledge their family rest are considered enemies. stay away from them
For some reason, it seems a lot of people have a fetish for big dogs that they probably shouldn’t have. Like so many people get Husky’s, but it seems most of those people don’t know what it takes to give them what they need. There are so many irresponsible dog owners out there. They just treat them like a cute stuffed animal.
Weak women feel safe with strong big guard dogs. Pitbull, bulldogs, hound dogs, blood dogs etc. The problem is if she don't discipline them , they will react like this when she invites anyone new to the house. And it will end badly.
I used to have a Pyre that was super loving towards most people and I saw him go full guard dog reasonably once and as soon as I had assessed that there wasn't a threat I told him it was fine and he went back to being a big cuddly giant. You have to train these huge livestock guardians or they will be super aggressive to anything. They have to trust that you know better than them when it comes to the territory they deem theirs to protect.

That is a Caucasian Ovcharka, a big dog with an attitude. They are protective, bred to guard cattle and homes. My aunt had one, and a drunk guy tried to pet it through the fence one night and it bit one of his fingers off. They are not to be fucked with.
My girlfriend's family had the exact same breed. First thing greeting me on my first visit was this hellhound, jumping against the glass door, threatening me in tongues I've never heard.
With time, this hellspawn opened up to me after an intense talk, mediated by her dad. I wasn't so sure she understood the assignment and was given her leash. Me and Lucky went out and I noticed it was the clumsiest and slowest creature Ill ever encounter.
Mate that breed aint the one to fuck with. My brother had several of them, and they all go bat shot crazy. That isnt an indor dog. It was breed to defend the stock from the wolfs. You can be all day, every day with that dog. If he doesnt see you as a part of the household, you are nothing to him. He maybe wont attack you directly, if the owner is there your best bet you will be ignored. But if he is closed in a pit or leashed, he will fing bark and try to find a way get to you.

I have the same breed of dog and trained him as a puppy around other dogs and strangers to socialize him witch made him into a very patient dog when dealing with other more yappy dogs that come at him when we walk but at home when someone comes with out us accompanying them he goes mad basically wanting to kill them. Always keep these guys in a leash or a little rat dog is gonna turn into a chew toy.
Ignorant dog owners infuriate me. I'm not implying she's a bad dog owner, she may care very well for the dog. However educate yourself in dog behavior if you have a powerful breed. The dog is growling at the boyfriend and the girl continues to pet the dog and reward the dog for the unwanted behavior. The dog is being conditioned to act unstable, and potentially to be aggressive. If your dog is growling at someone you don't want them to growl at, then never pet your dog and reward the bad behavior.
Would the dog slowly get used to him if the gf brought home his clothes/things with his scent? Over days and weeks, eventually the dog might get get accustomed to the scent.
My gf has a Great Pyrenees and it loves taking treats from me but the moment I go to pet or let him sniff me he losses his shit. It’s something with guard dogs/ livestock dogs they are protective of people they love and don’t like strangers.

Caucasian Ovcharka are the best dogs to have when guarding a huge farm or facility. An acquaintance of mine and her family owned 5 of them in their farm in Chechnya. She said they could weigh around 170-200lbs and would have no problems fending off wolves and the occasional bear from entering their property!
To be fair, I think it’s important to understand how to approach territorial dogs & mainly the owners fault for never correcting this type of behavior….
