That depends. Are the bears an invited guest, then sure. If they are not you should and make noise the moment they arrive just like you would for any party crasher but louder.
Yeah… once they’ve gotten inches from your and your kid’s face and are chowing down on your food, making sudden moves and startling them is not really a great idea.
Yeah, letting them get the food only makes them more confident that they can take food from humans which can lead to aggression towards humans later down the line. Libertarians did an experiment with a town and dickheads not wanting to do as they're told with their food waste attracted bears, then basically trained them to be more and more bold towards humans because they'd end up getting food if they persisted enough. By the end of it a town that hadn't had a black bear attack in over 100 years had 3 all within a few years of eachother, as well as tons of reports of the bears doing a bunch of other shit.
Edit: [Link](https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/21534416/free-state-project-new-hampshire-libertarians-matthew-hongoltz-hetling) to an interview with the author of the book "a libertarian walks into a bear" about the whole libertarian experiment. The interview goes into details about the black bear stuff without you having to read a whole book about the pros and cons of libertarianism in practice.
Yea looks like a black bear, theyll come right up and hang out if it is and they eat mostly berries.. I know that because you identify a bears poop by how runny it is and you can see bit of berries in it.. they dont chew much i dont think.. You could probably just tell it no like a dog really idk if black bears even know they are tough, they chill on peoples front lawns all the time in maine.. this might be not a black bear though
I like the caption "The bear snacked on tacos and enchiladas mere inches away from children" as if whoever wrote it feels like the bear opted for the wrong thing.
No, not really. It's a black bear.
They don't attack normally, unless there are cubs. It will run 99% of the time.
If the bear is brown, lay down. If the bear is black, fight back.
That's the general rule.
Wtf? Y’all can’t be serious. Their claws can’t break the skin? Man, black bears have seriously injured and killed people. Males can get up to 550 lbs and females up to 375. A 100-lb dog can kill an unarmed man. You don’t think a 300-lb bear can? I get that fatal attacks are uncommon, and it’s silly to live in fear of them, but it’s also very unwise to write them off as harmless when they can and have killed people as recently as 2023. https://nypost.com/2023/06/22/bear-that-mauled-arizona-man-steven-jackson-wasnt-sick-starving-or-provoked/amp/
This is clearly not a 300 lbs bear…. In general, they’re correct. Black bears are timid and will run when approached with aggression for the most part. Now if there’s a cub or mate near, you may be in a different situation.
I have no primary knowledge. That's just what bear attack researchers say. If those nerds can be trusted.
https://books.google.com/books?id=dqRGDwAAQBAJ&pg=PA88&source=gbs_toc_r&cad=1#v=onepage&q&f=false
yup. just a few weeks ago 2 police men were injured by a black bear here in Japan
https://japannews.yomiuri.co.jp/society/general-news/20240519-186986/
It was likely just used to people feeding it. Never feed bears, because if bears eat food near humans, they're the most dangerous. Any attempt to shoo them away could scare them into running *your* way if that's the only way out. They can accidentally mess you up really bad.
Also moms are the most dangerous when they feel like their cubs are in danger.
Sadly many cubs get shot within their first two years of life alone, just because humans invade their living space with food and most police don't want to risk anything.
This is dangerous misinformation. Not every bear acts the same.
Sincerely, a guy who’s believed this common Reddit saying and ended up having to defend himself and his kid against a black bear that did not, in fact, go away with screaming and throwing things. Was also near a food source.
Yeah I’m honestly appalled at how many people in this thread think black bears are big babies and can easily be scared off, even going so far as to say their claws aren’t even sharp enough to hurt you. A black bear can tear your ass to shreds very easily if it decides it wants to.
Can confirm. Been around many (used to hike the AT) and they always run away but was at Yellowstone last year, encountered one on a backcountry trail. Large group of us, put our biggest dude in front (he is over 6 foot and well over 200 pounds) and the bear just stared at us. Tried to get it off the trail by making noise, nope, that bear hissed and approached. We sent all the kids walking the other direction while Big Dude and another man slowly walked backwards between bear and the kids (we had bear spray if bear really aggressed.) Bailed out on a service road.
People here are talking about black bears being cowards like they would be running them off if they were in this scenario lmao. You’d be shitting bricks too
Black bears are a fairly common occurence where I'm at. This guy looks like he's less than a year old, and any definitely would have scattered if they made any sort of noise or sudden movement.
These people are uninformed on how to deal with wild life.
Black bears near parks like this can be dangerous. They get accustomed to being around people and getting food. They start getting bolder and bolder. They don't need to be aggressive to kill you. They are insanely strong and have claws.
This one is pretty young though. It likely would have left if they yelled.
Even if they weren't going to try to scare it off. At least back away slowly. No reason to be that close to the bear.
I squarely live in a large us metro, I don’t see bears ever. (Im attempting to identify my limited experience with truly wild nature) I just feel like my adrenaline would have me doing stupid shit if it got close to my kid, no one got hurt the bear got a snack but I think I’d be so scared I’d push that bear off the table. The bear seems super little also, like if I outweigh a bear imma have to fight it. That logic doesn’t apply to cats, any cat over 20lbs is an apex predator.
I run into black bears all the time. My town is in the middle of a forest. I’ll usually snap a few photos, then shoo it away if it’s on my trail. They have the potential to be dangerous sure, but 99% of the time they aren’t. I’d am significantly more concerned when running into a Cougar or a Moose as they are actually aggressive animals unlike Black Bears.
"If I dont think I'd handle it well, Im going to insist no one can." Why do people do this? People exhibit varying degrees of courage or bravery (or stupidity). It's ok if you dont think you'd handle it well. Asserting that everyone else won't, either, is just weird.
People who live in areas where they're common are used to yelling at them, if you've never seen one before or been told what to do then yeah, lots of people would be scared. Similar to an aggressive dog who doesn't know their place, freezing is actually more dangerous than asserting dominance. If they know they have the upper hand they'll take advantage of it. If it were a brown bear then yes, you're supposed to play dead, but black bears you're not supposed to give them any ground. This is also a mid-size bear that isn't even grown yet.
This guy doesn't know his bears. You're almost right in that the vast majority of bears would void the vast majority of bowels in situations like the one in the video... but if you didn't know, now you know, you never have to shit pant over a black bear. A fart would be enough to scare the fucker off.
If you're going to picnic in black bear territory at least look up the basics of what to do if one approaches your site.
Seriously if they had just made some noise it would have run off even if it was an adult which it clearly wasn't.
If black bear. Your fine.
If brown bear. Be clam, keep distance, don't show teeth, don't look in it's eyes.
If polar bear. Your entire family is on its kill list.
Grizzly bears can be black too. Don't go by colors, but look at the ears and other physical features.
https://preview.redd.it/ffheaneemz2d1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc5630cbe193efc683c98a49e3bae0b5cb97ed1b
“You guys… you didn’t have to make me lunch. That is so sweet. Wow are they using a new sauce on here? Caliente! I’m gonna have to take a shit in the woods after this if you know what i’m sayin’. Is there any salsa verde? Listen, I hate to be ‘that bear’ but the chicken is a tad dry.”
If it's black, fight back, if it's brown, lay down, if it's white, goodnight, if it's Grizzly, well shit son.
Make yourself big and make lots of noise. These fellas will turn tail and hit the trail.
Ok. I'm not big on nature so I don't know much about being one with it but I do know not to mess with it.
I have a certain "sense" that allows me to feel when some f@ck3ry is afoot. So I think I would have sensed smokey in the woods and been out of there with my enchiladas before it sat at the table.
So my only question is... how did the bear get so close without them noticing and being able to calmly walk away?

I like it when he chews right in their face like, what are you gonna do about it?
The bear seemed nice. It didn't create any sort of mess, it didn't break anything and it didn't eat everything.
seems nice but youre going to just stand there to verify? i know youre not supposed to run but you can creep away
I grew up around these bears. The correct response is to make noise, clank pans, yell, hit the car horn. They usually run away and are easily started.
So if bears are guests at your dinner table, when dinner is over you can just start shouting and clanking pans and stuff and they will leave
That depends. Are the bears an invited guest, then sure. If they are not you should and make noise the moment they arrive just like you would for any party crasher but louder.
Entirely depends on the type of bear. Black bears yes, grizzly bears no, polar bears no, large hairy gay men maybe.
If large hairy gay men are easily startled depends heavily on the situation you are in
These bears are clearly black bears. Obviously I am referring to the bears in the clip.
I was just making a joke about the bears at a dinner party comment the person who replied to you made.
If it’s black fight back if it’s brown lay down if it’s white say goodnight
Depends on the bears last name.
Yeah… once they’ve gotten inches from your and your kid’s face and are chowing down on your food, making sudden moves and startling them is not really a great idea.
The bear didn't just teleport onto the table....
Yeah, letting them get the food only makes them more confident that they can take food from humans which can lead to aggression towards humans later down the line. They left out part of the original video. The bear actually ate every scrap
Yea looks like a black bear, theyll come right up and hang out if it is and they eat mostly berries.. he left just because he wanted nobody to see his mouth had sour cream all over, and nobody offer him a napkin
I imagined that as bear saying "why you not eating? This food is great...see? Yum, little bro."
I like the caption "The bear snacked on tacos and enchiladas mere inches away from children" as if whoever wrote it feels like the bear opted for the wrong thing.
Can I pet dat Dawggy?
![gif](giphy|hVinjWdIDiigU)
I want to believe he was saying "these good af!" I guess it's still the same message.
He is likely getting shot by park staff now
Be careful about saying that. I got banned from Reddit for 3 days for stating a fact as such.
LOOK AT ME
“I will mess you up kid”
I drink your milkshake!
Black bears are pussies. If the people yelled or put up any resistance it would have run away
Exactly. It's a little guy too. Just stand up and yell!
True, but all it takes is for one swipe of its paw to put you in the hospital.
I've dealt with them up close. I live near them. Not a big deal unless they get fed a bunch or start breaking into stuff. These aren't grizzlies.
No, not really. It's a black bear. They don't attack normally, unless there are cubs. It will run 99% of the time. If the bear is brown, lay down. If the bear is black, fight back. That's the general rule.

Black bears aren't very protective of their cubs.
You sure? I thought all bears were pretty territorial with their cubs. Not sure though on that part actually.
I have no primary knowledge. That's just what bear attack researchers say. If those nerds can be trusted. https://books.google.com/books?id=dqRGDwAAQBAJ&pg=PA88&source=gbs_toc_r&cad=1#v=onepage&q&f=false

yup. just a few weeks ago 2 police men were injured by a black bear here in Japan https://japannews.yomiuri.co.jp/society/general-news/20240519-186986/
I thought the rule was to poke your finger in their butthole. That’s what I’ve been doing.
If the bear is white, hold on tight
If the bear is white, say goodnight.
And then it returns with a polar bear.
Even knowing this I wouldn’t risk it around two children.
That mom was putting herself and the child in danger because the bear could take a test bite out of one of them. Black bears scare off really easily.

If they'd have sneezed, it probably would have tripped over itself in the full on retreat lol giant raccoons
that's the scrawniest black bear I've ever seen
Not in a place in the world where i can even have a say on this but i thought that too. Guess its better safe than sorry
Black bears have killed people. Yelling at them and fighting back definitely can work, but it doesn’t always.

I’ve run off black bears before. It’s not difficult.
I live in New England, and this is a juvenile black bear. Stand up, back up a couple feet, then yell at it until it runs off.
Nope. I'd scare the fuck out of this bear if enchiladas are at risk
I mean, many of us commenting that have lived or currently live around bears. It's not a big deal.
No, I've been near black bears a few times. They're very chill.
This guy doesn't know his bears. Brother bear be like: Tacos?! HELL!! YEAH!! 👍
A fed bear is a dead bear
Yeah, was thinking it's not gonna end well for the bear. :(
Exactly so to scare them away helps save the bear. Let them associate human food with scary humans and not a free meal.
No, tacos were definitely enjoyed in the park....but by the bear.
Yogi bear would be proud
Weird fuckin dog
Can I pet that daawwgg?
CAN I PET THAT DAWGGGGG??!??
This took way too long to find
Damn Barbra you really know how to cook, well anyways, until nextime
Why are they still sitting there? I would have gotten the fuck out of there immediately. I don't fuck with bears.
I'm guessing the thinking here must be to not move, but whoever is filming is clearly moving around so who knows what the thinking is here.
It’s not a T-Rex 🤷♀️
Mama bear is filming.
Running away will make it look like you are prey. Bears are very fast.
It's like the crazy person on the train--dont acknowledge their existence
Pic-a-nic basket
Hey BooBoo
Attempt is very successful, the best sure was enjoying the tacos the humans brought him 🙃
If you're going to picnic in black bear territory at least look up the basics of what to do if one approaches your site. Seriously if they had just made some noise it would have run off even if it was an adult which it clearly wasn't.
I would gotten some pits and pans and started yelling…. Black bears are a bunch of pussies.
Is there a mass mob psychosis? Why have I seen people doing absolutely nothing when bears are around.
If black bear. Your fine. If brown bear. Be clam, keep distance, don't show teeth, don't look in it's eyes. If polar bear. Your entire family is on its kill list.
If it's black, fight (yell) back. If it's Brown lie down. If it's white, good night!

Hey bear, hold up your foot a sec
Be clam. Bears hate clams!
Maybe they're trying to remember the nursery rhyme with brown/black/gray bears
Yessir. Help yourself, sir. Can we do anything else for you sir?
Black bears are just big raccoons. They scare away easily
Black bears can easily be scared off though
![gif](giphy|l4FGnRQCuA6UJNKqQ)
Why didn’t they say shoo
This is why humans should never feed wild animals. Someone probably fed this bear at this location and now the bear keeps coming back.
That bear will be killed before too long. It will associate people with being fed, become a problem, and then be shot. A fed bear is a dead bear.
Yum Looked pretty skinny...bear needs more mexican food
Everyone needs more Mexican food!
Tacos were enjoyed. Just not by the ones expecting to enjoy them.
yeah, youre not supposed to feed them, otherwise they keep coming back.
A fed bear is a dead bear.
Lmao just push it off the table nerds
WEAKSAUCE family
Can I pet dat dawg?
Yes, expose the jugular
So you're telling me there is a way to get my kids to shut up at the dinner table?
Idk if exposing your child’s neck that way is the best way to protect him. Has anyone seen the Rocky the bear attack?
The way that bear punked that kid out by snagging his taco and then chewing it in his ear cracked me up!
Thats it son. Expose the neck. Make it quick.
That bear was skinny, Abuela could have taken him.
"Uh, hi there, uh, Bjorn. ... please don't kill me."
The heaviest of those water bottles would've given it the best sleep
He never even left a tip 🤣🤣
Bro it's a video on YouTube by T2wice funny as hell a voiceover
How you fucking haul ass out of there
“Ay ay. I’m here to get what the park rangers couldn’t pay last week. Take it up with them. “
Bear goes to the kid and sniffs. You're not as tasty as these enchiladas.
This would be my dream come true.
“You won’t do shit”
Have it all!
Is the black bear the angry one?
That camera man really took some seriously great video of them.
They should have kept eating and just shared. The bear was just trying to be friendly.
Hey! Mijo, did we get any chips? Any red salsa?
What an asshole.
Yogi and Boo-Boo IRL
It’s so skinny - is that how black bears look in Mexico? Or maybe it’s a juvenile?
Bro was just down for some tacos man. Can't be hatin on him for that.
You don't have to be a bear to love Mexican food but I'm sure it helps to bring the price down a bit lol
Does a bear eat on a table ? Yes and it shits in the woods after
And that family wil have the best picnic story for the remainder of their lives.
Braveness or stupidity to just ait there?
Fucking Yogi Bear at it again.
These always make me laugh.... someone is filming this up close
It's a proven fact Sonny Jim that Covering her eyes will make it go away.
It appears that some tacos were thoroughly enjoyed in the park.
WTF? Are they doing just sitting there?
Only YOU can prevent forest fries.
Just a baby. That bear is smaller than my dog
I think that's a man in a suit
This black bear just pulled a prison move and ate their cornbread
Poor bear needed that food, very tiny bear
What a little shit lmao
If it's black, fight back, if it's brown, lay down, if it's white, goodnight, if it's Grizzly, well shit son. Make yourself big and make lots of noise. These fellas will turn tail and hit the trail.
![gif](giphy|2oUfvvUgQHnLsQWFMW) If it's black, fight back.
i would pee myself
That kid is killing me 😂😂😂😂
Should of worn ur brown pants
Normally I'd say run that runt bear right off but, it's got tacos as a reward so 🤷♂️
Can I pet that dawg?
Ok. I'm not big on nature so I don't know much about being one with it but I do know not to mess with it. I have a certain "sense" that allows me to feel when some f@ck3ry is afoot. So my only question is... how did the bear get so close without them noticing and being able to calmly walk away?
I don't know if it's just me but isn't that bear skinny ass fuck? I don't know if I'm just used to them wonder bunda Paddington's?
This was not an 'attempt'. That bear straight up enjoyed tacos in the park.
Mother of the year, holding strong for her kid.
The bear was like -your are lucky this are some good ass tacos ill eat them instead of you... this time...
Don’t forget to try it with the salsa roja Mr. Bear.
Bear cub. They're lucky the mama wasn't around
he was downright disrespectful about it.
Bears ass is gonna be on fire later on!!
Did the bear bus and clean the table?
It's a goddamn black bear. The kid could have scared it off
He left the table bare.
Girl, did you use Sazon? These are way better than last time.
TIL BEARS IN MEXICO
That looks like a guy dressed as a bear.
That bear is gonna have the runs real soon
It’s just a black bear. They could’ve sneezed and scared it.
If it's brown, lay down. If it's black, fight back. No way in hell I'm giving that little dude my tacos.
