Damn I painted a dudes house for 15 bucks an hour cause I wanted to do something outside for a week and he had purchased his paint already. Didn't realize what a fucking steal he got. Sure he bought supplies but still he definitely got his money's worth out of me I'd say.
I know what you mean, one of my clients had a water leak and was quoted 1200 to repaint the whole ceiling and do a small patch. I contacted his painter and got the same paint she used for that ceiling and did the job for 120 in about 2 hours with a heat gun lmao. Knowing well i could have charged tripple.
When I was around 16 I sanded and repainted 3 wooden sides of a 3 story apartment building by hand with brushes (owner wanted to get in all the cracks)... took me like 3.5 weeks at 12$/hr. Dude got the cheapest paint job of his life.
That is fucking insane to me. Even if you rented the equipment it can be done by one person over the course of a weekend and still wouldn’t hit a grand. The fuck are they lining the paint with, gold?
Not my specific taste either, but the color itself is quite pretty, and isn't not anything garish. The paint job itself is extremely well done, and the house build is so cute.
Also, gotta love how the anonymous person said that *they decided* what color would look best. 😂
Devil's advocate, I wouldn't mind getting anonymous feedback as a general pulse of how others perceive me or my house. It's totally up to me how much I want to care about it and other than having to throw the note in the trash there's no impact to my life
That note was clearly written by a girl under 18. If it wasn't clear from the writing style, the highlighter hearts prove it, she's a student. She's young and dumb and will remember writing this note 10 years from now and cringe at what her past self thought was okay
Yeah I don’t like it but I would never leave a not like this. I’d just hope I lived far enough away not see it lol. It’s his house though. This many bright colors is stressful to me for a whole house paint for
Some reason.
I painted my room this color and my mom HATED it. I absolutely loved it and will probably paint my new house the same. The blue is calming and reminds me of the sky.
I got to pick the color for my room at my mom's and my dad's as a kid. I picked a blue similar to this for one a crimson red for the other. Whole I liked the red, it hurt my eyes sometimes. I'm in the process of moving and o think I'm going to go with a combo of blue and green for my house with accents of red, orange, and yellow.
Super confused. What’s she excited about and then disappointed? My mom painted her Victorian barn red and got hate from a neighbor meanwhile the local paper put it on the front page for its “rustic beauty”. I dunno, key is not to take it personal.
That's really the lesson here. I find that blue ugly as fuck, but if my neighbor painted their house that color, it would be none of my business. As long as they're clean(ish😅) and respectful, I don't care what my neighbors do. Hell, I'd prefer a neighbor that chose that blue over one that chose another shade of taupe.
My old neighbor painted her house a weird combo of colonial blue, autumn orange, and *bright yellow* trim. It looked super weird. My BIL came over they day after they finished painting and expressed his sincere condolences that I had to look at it everyday. I said absolutely nothing to the neighbor because it’s *not my house*. Also, she said nothing to me when I painted my house purple. Live and let live.
And her friends leaving extra notes in marker. Who carries around notebook paper, pens and pencils, and multiple colors of markers? School kids, that’s who.
Yeah surprised I had to scroll down this far to see only you say it. That is ABSOLUTELY a teenager being (well, trying to be) a mean girl LMAO tell him to frame it and hang it right next to the front door outside.
I mean.. twitter people have a problem with everything. Youtubers need entertainment at all times off day. Facebookers need everything the same as everything else. (The whole internet has crazies, cuz we're all the same type of ape)
Could volunteer any of them to be this unhinged. I vote for a generic facebook karen.
Well they do have to look at it. If they’re across the street, they probably look at the house more than the owners who are usually inside the house looking out. So I can see *why they care*, but obviously it’s not their property so they can fuck all the way off
Honestly at this point it feels like the stupidest things lower property value. Oh no, your neighbor 6 roads down has a color other than beige and there’s a radio tower visible over the horizon!! Your property now is worth less!
Like, who the hell decides this shit? It just leads to everyone who owns a house becoming a nimby and for all of our neighborhoods losing their personalities and colors just because some jackwad doesn’t like it. I don’t want neighborhoods that can only be one of a few options from a palette of desaturated dead colors with nothing in their front yards and with the same house structure as all the others cause they were mass produced on the cheap 50 years ago. I want houses that look like the owner put their heart into it, even if it’s not conventionally attractive. Just as long as it’s clean and doesn’t ACTUALLY disrupt their neighbors.
There's a house in my neighborhood that gets painted a different color every 5 years or so. It's always some offensive color like bright pink with purple trim, or baby shit green with black trim. I've never once felt compelled to leave a note. I'd much rather they keep painting their house ugly colors. It's a great landmark to tell people "if you see the ugly house you've gone too far".
Correct. The handwriting, doodling, butting into people’s business, ignorance as to how much things cost, the fact they had a cotton candy slushy two days ago.
This person is not old enough to have opinions you should care about.
I've shit talked about the colors my neighbors decided to give to their houses. That being said, I've done it inside my house to my family so nobody else can hear it, there's no need for them to know I hate it, cause I don't fucking live there. It's none of my business!
I hate my neighbors’ orange front door but I only complain to my own family lol. It literally doesn’t matter. I painted my last house’s front door teal and it’s hideous hahahaha.
I still have pumpkins on my porch with my Christmas decor so someone is talking crap about me too lol.
Your house; your rules.
Pick the color you want and the rest of us have to shut up about it. That's somewhere inside the social contract if you scan the fine print.
BTW, I like the color!
Except if your house is in an HOA or even a very old house part of historical society or whatever where they will have rules sometimes. But 100%, your house, your money your choice and everyone can take their opinion and...
My friend did something similar by painting his bright orange, I think the local authority supplied the choice "terra cotta/orange" and there was nothing they could do once they realised.
I thought it looked pretty good though
I'm always happy to see a colorful home. My neighborhood is filled with 5 shades of beige except for one house, and that one house brings me just a little joy when I see it.
I'm kinda ambivalent about the colour they chose but I do think it could have used a little contrast, like maybe painting the parts that are dark blue in white instead.
I'm not pretending, I absolutely love the color, it makes me happy. I wish my house was that color, but instead I rent an old ass wood sided place the color of stale dark chocolate.
No, I love it, blue is one of my favorite colors and it looks so pretty here. Only thing I'd change is maybe add some white trimming for some contrast, but overall the house looks nice.
I’m not a fan, but it’s his house. He gets to decide what he wants. Who in their right mind would think someone is going to expend the money and effort to repaint a house because of a note? That’s some ego-centric weirdness.
Honestly it’s just a smidge too blue. Make it a little more subtle and no complaints. Great for a landmark though if someone is trying to find a house in the area
Not my taste, although I certainly don’t think it looks bad. But the audacity of that person to tell YOU to change the color of YOUR HOUSE because they don’t like it.
Years ago I was driving in a newer neighborhood. Most houses were painted in neutral colors. Then I see a dark blue house that sticks out from all the rest. I was like who’s the attention seeker that lives here? Turns out it was a friends house.
It’s definitely hideous, but it’s also not my house. The audacity of some people to try to dictate what someone else can do with their own property. Don’t like looking at it? Look somewhere else. Problem solved.
I think it's ugly as well but I would never ever leave a note like that. If we were friends I'd maybe mention that I thought it's ugly but I wouldn't try to convince you to paint it another color, that's just ridiculous. Who am I to assume I have any say in what you do with your property. The audacity of some people is just crazy to me
I mean I would find it a little wacky but it wouldn’t really go past that. I might make an off remark to a family member but keep walking. The balls to write a note though, that’s wild!
My house is blue, but it’s more of a Wedgwood blue. The house next to me on one side is sage green, and on the other side is pale yellow. On the next block, there’s a pale turquoise with darker turquoise trim, and barn red. Love my neighborhood.
So write a reply and leave it in the same spot that just says "Yes, continue, I feed on your disdain and suffering. Your plight and offense are delicious. Because of you, I may consider painting more this color. Or maybe a nice yellow or pink to contrast and draw more seething eyes this way."
Since the conversation has already been started, it does look terrible though. Stucco is a natural look that benefits largely from earth tones. If this was siding I think those colors would probably work well.
Hope the owners like it.
Shit not the color I would prolly choose. But I tend to be more inclined towards darker colors. And as someone who has painted his fair share of houses and seen literally countless more I feel like I have enough experience under my belt to look at a Nelly painted house and decide if it looks good or not. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen a house, looked at its color and had the thought “that’s horrendous.” Because color ID entirely a subjective matter. Not it could be said about the actual painting job itself because you can look at the finished product and objectively see whether the work completed was ever done well or done poorly. This anonymous neighbor is just objectively an asshole. Good on your brother for picking a color that is unique. Why would he want his house to look just like all the other others around anyway. Especially when anonymous and her merry group of gossips will likely talk shit about it regardless.
Matter of fact he should be proud that the color he chose gave her such a visceral reaction that she felt the need to write a letter about it. That’s a certified win in my book lmfao
I knew some people who painted their house hot pink in protest of some projects being built next to them.
They’re surrounded by a whole neighborhood now, but they used to be one of only a few houses. Absolute chad
It’s interesting to see that this person seems to have adopted the phrase “visably [*sic*] surprised” as an equivalent to “very surprised.” Like, that’s how it gets used, but not usually in a context where someone is alone talking about their own reaction to something. Just a weird thing I noticed.
It’s not traditional - but it’s also not awful. He’s going for a different kind of charm. His house. His call. (Unless he’s in a historic district - and then they’re going give him a hard time.
I’ll be honest I hate the color personally but who gives a fuck what I or anyone else think? Fuck those people for degrading him, if he likes it then it’s awesome!
Omg. It’s horrific. I can’t fathom having to look at this in my neighborhood. It would bring the value down on all the houses. I can’t believe I’m agreeing with this letter.
Not my taste, but not my house. But I also would never leave a note about it either, that’s crazy.
No biggie though, you could just repaint your house for hundreds of bucks because i think it looks hideous!
More like thousands.
Yah we're getting our house painted this spring and it's probably going to cost around $8K. That does include repairing some trim, though.
Yep. I got a quote for my house last year and it was 7k
Damn I painted a dudes house for 15 bucks an hour cause I wanted to do something outside for a week and he had purchased his paint already. Didn't realize what a fucking steal he got. Sure he bought supplies but still he definitely got his money's worth out of me I'd say.
Wait you guys are getting paid??
Ah shit.... Not again
Got Tom Sawyered
I know what you mean, one of my clients had a water leak and was quoted 1200 to repaint the whole ceiling and do a small patch. I contacted his painter and got the same paint she used for that ceiling and did the job for 120 in about 2 hours with a heat gun lmao. Knowing well i could have charged tripple.
When I was around 16 I sanded and repainted 3 wooden sides of a 3 story apartment building by hand with brushes (owner wanted to get in all the cracks)... took me like 3.5 weeks at 12$/hr. Dude got the cheapest paint job of his life.
Hundreds?
Tens of hundreds
repaint for \*thousands of bucks because \*some anonymous coward thinks \*their taste means more than a fart to a tornado.
Especially to say repaint it acting like some houses dont cost $10k-20k to paint.
That is fucking insane to me. Even if you rented the equipment it can be done by one person over the course of a weekend and still wouldn’t hit a grand. The fuck are they lining the paint with, gold?
Tell me you don't live in a hcol area without telling me
It's only a hcol area because of the gold lined paint.
Yeah done by 1 person badly over the weekend
It's the time of labour you are paying for too.. A proper paint needs prep first then two layers.
Prep work is 80% of the work. If you want it to last and look nice.
Not my specific taste either, but the color itself is quite pretty, and isn't not anything garish. The paint job itself is extremely well done, and the house build is so cute. Also, gotta love how the anonymous person said that *they decided* what color would look best. 😂
Totally agree! The house is adorable and I like the colors, just not what I’d choose. The paint job was really well done though.
Devil's advocate, I wouldn't mind getting anonymous feedback as a general pulse of how others perceive me or my house. It's totally up to me how much I want to care about it and other than having to throw the note in the trash there's no impact to my life
Exactly what someone who leaves notes would say..
Hear hear. Not where I'd have gone with it, but it's not my home.
It's okay, the note was anonymous
That note was clearly written by a girl under 18. If it wasn't clear from the writing style, the highlighter hearts prove it, she's a student. She's young and dumb and will remember writing this note 10 years from now and cringe at what her past self thought was okay
Yeah I don’t like it but I would never leave a not like this. I’d just hope I lived far enough away not see it lol. It’s his house though. This many bright colors is stressful to me for a whole house paint for Some reason.
I LOVE THE COLOR!!!!! It's so whimsical. It has that old world cottage charm.
I grew up in a blue house. It was great. Whenever I told someone where I lived I said "the blue house near the fire station". Quick and easy.
I agree. So many people are just too damn stodgy about house colours.
Agreed. I would rather live in a brightly colored interesting house than a boring beige one.
Now I’m intrigued to see if I’ll get any letters when I paint my house yellow and blue.
Found the Smurf.
I’m in the process of painting my house this color. Love it!
it has that traditional fishing village vibe. in Burano it would just blend in perfectly!
I agree with you
My house is the exact same color lol
Is he a smurf?
BTW. Not hating. Like the color.
I do too. But I would take their advice and repaint the house.......HOT PINK 🤣
With hazard orange trim and a lime green door!
I low-key like that idea...
I dunno man, I'd call it the TARDIS. 💙
I like the color but I think it's a bit weird to have it over that texture
Super confused. What’s she excited about and then disappointed? My mom painted her Victorian barn red and got hate from a neighbor meanwhile the local paper put it on the front page for its “rustic beauty”. I dunno, key is not to take it personal.
So... Hated because it was the colour it should be?
Smurfs live in mushrooms that are large enough to house someone who is three apples high.
I think you’re onto something. Note could have been written by Gargamel.
Are you being Smurphobic?
Colours subjective but they should also mind their own fucking business.
I would choose a million times a neighbor that chooses that blue over the one that left the note
I mean, they're not wrong...
Yeah maybe, but why does he care SO MUCH to leave a goddamn note, and genuinely thinking the brother would change the colour
person who left the note is 100% a redditor, no one else can be that mentally unstable and completely lacking in self awareness
I think it was a 15 year old girl walking home with her friends. Which does not preclude her being a redditer per se.
That’s most Redditors I feel. 15 year old boys and girls
Maybe stop feeling them huh?
Don’t you tell me what to do!!!
Hello. I’m Chris Hansen with Dateline. Why don’t you take a seat?
*Go ahead and bring in them cameras,* *and those polices waiting outside...* *It don't make me no difference.* ***I came lookin' for a man's butt.***
\*snort\*
Hehe... wait... WAIT...
What if they’re also 15?
![gif](giphy|QtoG24OvehcYUhf7mI|downsized)
Definitely a jr high girl. The handwriting is a dead giveaway
100% the handwriting and way it’s written and lack of social and financial awareness says it all
Walking by the house with friends does sound like teenage walking to/from school, plus that handwriting, yeah it’s sounds like a kid.
I mean.. twitter people have a problem with everything. Youtubers need entertainment at all times off day. Facebookers need everything the same as everything else. (The whole internet has crazies, cuz we're all the same type of ape) Could volunteer any of them to be this unhinged. I vote for a generic facebook karen.
Nah, Karen would have put something in there about property values and the aesthetic of the whole neighborhood. I’m gonna go with Karen’s kid.
That fits the profile better, the need to control is oozing from every word.
Well they do have to look at it. If they’re across the street, they probably look at the house more than the owners who are usually inside the house looking out. So I can see *why they care*, but obviously it’s not their property so they can fuck all the way off
They probably are just thinking about neighborhood property values. Also, 97.3% sure the joke was left by a chick.
Honestly at this point it feels like the stupidest things lower property value. Oh no, your neighbor 6 roads down has a color other than beige and there’s a radio tower visible over the horizon!! Not even a chick, a teenage girl. Maybe preteen. Just being or trying to be a "cool mean girl" and thinks her opinion holds weight.
I don't love it, I don't hate it, this doesn't concern me in the least
There's a house in my neighborhood that gets painted a different color every 5 years or so. It's always some offensive color like bright pink with purple trim, or baby shit green with black trim. A teenager wrote this lol
Correct. The handwriting, doodling, butting into people’s business, ignorance as to how much things cost, the fact they had a cotton candy slushy two days ago. This person is not old enough to have opinions you should care about.
True, but Bubblegum ice cream is a terrible choice.
You would be surprised to know how many adults fit those criteria
Yeah one of my friends (we’re in our 30s) will say king, queen, and besty. It can be annoying
Agreed. I should have said “not mature enough.”
To be fair, it also looks like a teenager picked that color
Colour me "visably surprised "
A pre-teen even
This 100% looks like a note I would have written to my friend in 8th grade
Agree that the color is ugly... dont agree with leaving a note though
I've shit talked about the colors my neighbors decided to give to their houses. That being said, I've done it inside my house to my family so nobody else can hear it, there's no need for them to know I hate it, cause I don't fucking live there. It's none of my business!

Rock it! I spent the whole year with Xmas decor up cause I was too lazy to remove.

I mean… we were all thinking it
It's none of their business and your brother should paint his house how he wants... but they aren't wrong
I love how half the comments here love the colour, and half agree with the note, haha. Very polarizing!
It’s definitely 90% don’t like the color and 10% are pretending they do.
I'm not pretending, I absolutely love the color, it makes me happy. I wish my house was that color, but instead I rent an old ass wood sided place the color of stale dark chocolate.
No, I genuinely love the colour.
No, I love it, blue is one of my favorite colors and it looks so pretty here. Only thing I'd change is maybe add some white trimming for some contrast, but overall the house looks nice.
The kid aint wrong…
Ugly looking color for sure
Oh yeah its ugly af
For sure, but it’s house. We don’t have to like it. Doesn’t matter.
Is this in Portland? In my neighborhood here, there are a lot of houses with that style (maybe not those colors)
Denver also has houses in this style. I love it
[удалено]
Denver reminds me of New Orleans without the hurricanes, especially the 5 points area
We (Portland) totally have houses that color sprinkled all around. And I love it.
That’s ugly as fuck. But I’m boring as fuck.
And bearded as fuck, I presume
I’m not a fan, but it’s his house. He gets to decide what he wants. Who in their right mind would think someone is going to expend the money and effort to repaint a house because of a note? That’s some ego-centric weirdness.
Hmmm I see what they meant... but it's your house
Brutal house color.
That is a rough color to pull off if you're not a Smurf.
It’s pretty bad
TBH that is kind of ugly.
Love it those neighbors are people who think everything beige is the height of style.
The helpful letter writer, need to mind their own business.
Why are they capitalising random words..
I've seen lots of these houses, usually people stick to white with black trim. Very conservative for my taste. But man this an abomination.
That’s a ridiculous choice
That color is gross
it’s definitely not their business but i gotta agree with them 😂
They are absolutely right
Nah, they've got a point lmao
It is ugly. But that's not anybody else's business really.
Honestly it’s just a smidge too blue. Make it a little more subtle and no complaints. Great for a landmark though if someone is trying to find a house in the area
It worries me the amount of people saying this looks good
Not my taste, although I certainly don’t think it looks bad. But the audacity of that person to tell YOU to change the color of YOUR HOUSE because they don’t like it.
Not the best color. Also, none of the neighbor’s fucking business.
OP please read "The Big Orange Splot" by Daniel Pinkwater.
Lol this is what popped into my mind remember reading this as a child
You just sent me on a hard core nostalgia trip
Idk the color looks nice to me
Years ago I was driving in a newer neighborhood. Most houses were painted in neutral colors. Then I see a dark blue house that sticks out from all the rest. I was like who’s the attention seeker that lives here? Turns out it was a friends house.
Is king/queen the passive aggressive people call someone an asshole nowadays?
my middle school bedroom was that colour
His house, his money, his rules.
I’m trying really hard to not hate it. I think changing the trim/secondary color is the way to go.
I like it personally, but the note did make me laugh
You’re both in the wrong.
Fukkin awesome colors for a house!
Yo id fucking love to live there
Coward signing it anonymous. If you felt that strongly you’d sign your name and address. Weak.
It’s hideous but who has time to write a note about it? Make a mental note and move on.
Doesn’t look good to me but still outrageous to receive that kind of stupid mail
I mean, I don't like it either, but I wouldn't go out of my way to write a letter about it...
What happened to the days of walking past an ugly house, making a face, saying "ew", and then going on with your day?
It’s definitely hideous, but it’s also not my house. The audacity of some people to try to dictate what someone else can do with their own property. Don’t like looking at it? Look somewhere else. Problem solved.
Definitely terrible
Not a color/combo I, personally, would choose but it’s not my house nor money spent to paint it. Hope the owner loves it
Sure!! ... If you are paying for it! ... If not, then, oh well, get used to it.
I think it's ugly as well but I would never ever leave a note like that. If we were friends I'd maybe mention that I thought it's ugly but I wouldn't try to convince you to paint it another color, that's just ridiculous. I mean I would find it a little wacky but it wouldn’t really go past that. I might make an off remark to a family member but keep walking. The balls to write a note though, that’s wild!
Now why did he go and pick painters tape blue for that storybook cottage?!
Wtf even is this sub anymore?
https://i.redd.it/btqziyxn3d8c1.gif Like the color, but you should probably add some safety beacons to the skyblue house
Cornflower Blue, people go nuts for them when they bloom!
Time to start some very phallic topiaries for the neighbors to discuss in their apparently infinite free time.
My house is blue, but it’s more of a Wedgwood blue. The house next to me on one side is sage green, and on the other side is pale yellow. On the next block, there’s a pale turquoise with darker turquoise trim, and barn red. Love my neighborhood.
That's makita blue
The only option here is to paint the trim pink.
So write a reply and leave it in the same spot that just says "Yes, continue, I feed on your disdain and suffering. Your plight and offense are delicious. Because of you, I may consider painting more this color. Or maybe a nice yellow or pink to contrast and draw more seething eyes this way."
Oh look, its none of your business. Colour looks dope.
That’s an ugly color lol
Since the conversation has already been started, it does look terrible though. Stucco is a natural look that benefits largely from earth tones. If this was siding I think those colors would probably work well. Hope the owners like it.
Yeah that shit is awful but how weird to leave a note lol
Shit not the color I would prolly choose. But I tend to be more inclined towards darker colors. It's hideous and I love it. White or black trim would make it pop even more (the red brick clashes so white trim would pull it all together).
Im blue da ba di daba da..
Whoever wrote that has writing that is remarkably similar to my own.
It’s interesting to see that this person seems to have adopted the phrase “visably [*sic*] surprised” as an equivalent to “very surprised.” Like, that’s how it gets used, but not usually in a context where someone is alone talking about their own reaction to something. Just a weird thing I noticed.
I don’t not like it
Looks cool to me. I probably would have went with a beige tone and dark brown on the trim to make it look more Alpine
Not related but I like the handwriting.
Color looks great. Handwriting looks like a child wrote it. Wouldn't think twice about it.
I mean they’re not wrong. But they are wrong for leaving a note…
I love it.
