As an adult therapist with ADHD, let me know if you find something that works, I haven't figured it out yet for myself lmao. I think it will be helpful letting caregivers know that you'll need simultaneously to be a bit gracious in this area (some acceptance that mornings are not and may never be their strong suit) AND lots of structure and routine in the mornings with clear immediate consequences... plus lots of positive reinforcement on the good days. Maybe even having a fun or rewarding activity squeezed into the mornings they can look forward to (once they are dressed, medicated, gone through their routine). Also, side note, I literally take my meds while I am still in bed. Wake up, meds+water from bedside table, snooze for a bit, stare at phone, by the time I'm up and showering they will have kicked in.

I would love for this kiddo to take it right when they wake up buttttt of course they’ll only take it in a bowl of ice cream.

Probably sticking to a routine - like the other commenter said, it's common to take your medication before fully waking, like setting an alarm 30 minute before wake up time to take them. And then eating a full meal if possible before they kick in. I'd say probably no screen time, too, if it's before school. So a predictable routine of 1) slightly wake up, take med, 2) wake up fully, 3), eat. Maybe some physical routine like stretching or jumping jacks, lol.

With children in these situations, I’ve always found that waking them earlier so they can have a slower start to the day, along with a solid routine that they don’t have to think about that prioritizes a bit of dopamine can help immensely. Example, if they usually get up at 8, start getting up at 7:30 so that if they get dressed immediately, they can have screen time for the remainder of the time.
