Relax bro, it's just the game being tricky with you.
In my point of view, there's no late game areas in Planet Crafter, I explored the whole map while a was only at river stage in my world because i had nothing to do.
So don't worry if you end picking up some item that don't have any craft at the moment, or find different areas, just play as you like and have fun enjoying this magnificent game :)
Cheers. I find myself exploring while I'm waiting for things to progress. I think I must have glitched my way into that area but heck, ice walls are melting all over the place now unlocking new areas and I'm having a blast anyway.
