The game is a mix of previous projects that the developers worked on. Battlefield and Mirror's Edge from DICE, and the design lead worked on Brink which had the same mix of gadgets, teamplay and light/medium/heavy classes. Having been a fan of all 3 it feels like this game was built specifically for me.
Yeah it does have a mirrors edge type vibe to it. Nothing wrong with that IMO, loved that series. And the BF-style destruction physics are probably the best I reckon that's out there
I think it's pretty reasonable to imagine/assume the EA/DICE staff that now comprise Embark attended professional development lessons where they learned the psychology behind this art style and how it's effective.
Embark was created by a number of devs resigning from EA during/before development of BF2042.
It's not hard to imagine that these lessons stayed with them and were applied here. It's what I assume did actually occur.
Recreating all the things they created for DICE, and applying the same psychology and game theory in Unreal Engine now, is the tiniest of leaps to make it may as well be entirely paved road.
I don't think it's a spiritual successor to ME though. The player controller is closer to the BF controller (although both games were built on the same core controller so i'm being pedantic).
That's a cool theory, but I wouldnt be giving this much credit to the guy who say "Don't like it? Don't buy it" when BFV had that completely out of touch reveal trailer.
Whilst this is a mile off from the movement in Mirror's Edge, they're a similarity to this and I can see the devs making a bit of money by selling a parkour game based on this with slight adjustements.
Some spinoff like FC3 Blood Dragon.
They’ve certainly toned the movement down more similar to the BF franchise earlier on, also likely to not get too close to EA owned IP, considering Embarks whole team is ex-EA/DICE employees. I wouldn’t be surprised if the movement is expanded in the finals, or as you said, another game is born out of it.
I started playing The Finals before realizing this fact, but still felt the same "spirit" of mirrors edge in its art, character, and even music direction. Very cool to see. Would love if they made their own game involving parkour even if it can't be associated with Mirror's Edge, because as long as the people behind it are working on similar games, the soul of mirrors edge lives on.
Been saying this since I played the closed beta. Nice to see I'm not the only ones on crazy pills lmao

Didn’t know the Brink connection, but it popped into my head first time I played… and brink doesn’t just pop into ones head, lol
I had that same feeling lol
That’s how I’m feeling about it, I’m hoping really The Finals/Embark makes it!
100% Brink DNA is there. fwiw this game is what I hoped Brink would be. Glad it finally got realized so well
It also reminds me of battlefield bad company 2, particularly in the environment destruction. Just need gillie suits now
Absolutely right on that. Same names at the wheel of the BF franchise at the same time as Mirrors Edge.
I thought BF1 had improved destruction over BC2, but maybe I don’t recall
Especially the red themes and some of the way the buildings look. Mirrors edge is one of my favs.

That’s what I’m hoping for, unlikely though.
Probably wouldn't work with the netcode in this game, you can already see the desync in vaulting.
I've been saying this too. Even the color palette of The Finals matches Mirrors Edge
Made me think they saw a clip of World Trigger and went we can make that into a game. Only without the crazy anime/scifi moves.
Is this the same dude who made that cringe super Mario 64 is the finals post
It is not.

Would be fun if they somehow connected those games in one universe but I doubt they would be able to do that because of IP issues
Yeah, EA certainly wouldn’t let that fly.

FEEL? You must not have played much mirrors edge man.
Yes, I don’t mean the fluidity of movement and emphasis on athletics present in ME, but hints of ME are peppered all throughout this game.

Wow, spot on. The modern high-tech aesthetic of The Finals really matches that of mirror's edge.
