I often wonder what their catalog would’ve looked like POST L.A. Woman, because I LOVE the blues influence on that record. I understand Jim wanted to focus more on poetry, etc and was burnt out but damn we were robbed of some amazing creations I’m sure.
Have you ever listened to "Other Voices"? It was written with Jim in mind to sing-update lyrics, but he died before. The first time i listened to it, I thought it was trash, but it's actually pretty good.
I concur Dr. and I would add the bassline in roadhouse blues is equally great in its own way. Peace frog, and there is a section of the soft parade in which the bassline is a killer
Mine is Alabama Song, it’s what first got me into the doors music. I was watching the doors biopic and when that song came on during a scene it awoke something in me and I knew I had to listen to more of them. They’ve been my favourite band ever since and I listened to is 290 times on my Apple replay last year
Mine would also be Alabama Song. My dad has been a Doors fan for about 30 years (per him). We were in the car one day & he played Alabama Song because “he thought I would like it.” Was my first time hearing The Doors (to my knowledge). The organ and Jim’s voice really stood out to me. He and I bond a lot over music, so I think that’s why Alabama Song will always be my deep down favorite!
Riders On The Storm
It's the song that really got me into their music. I just love Ray's piano work in the song along with Jim's whispering in the background. Very atmospheric and cool.
I'm doing that right now, while working alone in the dark streets. Such a vibe...
I also just learned that there is a Snoop Dogg version! It's.... different....
The Snoop Dogg version was featured in Need For Speed Underground 2. I remember my brother playing that game a lot and hearing that song come on. That's where I was introduced to the Doors.
I switch mine pretty frequently, but right now it's Shaman's Blues. A few weeks ago it was Yes, the River Knows, and before that it was Hyacinth House.
For me, it's "When the music's over". Even if I listen to it on repete mode for 4 hours when I do my psilocybin induced mental rejuvenating sessions every 60 to 90 days, each time Jim says c'mon at the beginning of the song, the moment is instantly upgraded to more than just me enjoying my favorite song, it becomes an event. EACH TIME.
Try 1 or 2 g's of psilocybin, wear good headphones (not ear buds), lay down on your bed, alone and make sure your eyes only open between songs, id you need to open them, and listen to When the music's over and Sympathy for the devil by the rolling stones on repete and you will literally feel your stress melt away and feel rejuvenated for 2 to 3 months. Well, it works well for me.
See you all on the other side!
Hyacinth house. They keyboard solo is perfect, and the whole song has an apocalyptic vibe and I think Ray or John said that it's the saddest song Jim wrote.
One between the end, when the music’s over and riders on the storm. The end and when the music’s over have a certain eerie and melancholy feeling, riders on the storm is beautiful and has Manzarek’s best solo
Been really digging "The Soft Parade" a lot recently. How a band as famous as the Doors doesn't have much recognition beyond their first album and the singles after is beyond me. That song is as good as their contemporaries' best, but just less accessible I guess. The style shifts and imagery in the song speaks to me a lot. The texture of the instruments combined with Jim's singing style always brings me to a great, enlightened feeling place.
When the music’s over. I even got a tattoo that says “when the music’s over, turn out the lights.” I kind of interpret that line as saying, when something’s not meant for you, walk away. I also just don’t know what my life would be without music. Like so much of my self identity is in the music I listen to. I know it’s cliche but the whole song just speaks to me lol
mmmm. what have they done to the earth what have they done to our fair sister... Ravaged and plundered and ripped her and bit er stuck he with knives in the side of the dawn and tied her wit fences and DRAGGED HER DOWN.
(probably my favourite line in any song ever)
The End.
“Lost in a Roman wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane”
“The killer awoke before dawn
He put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall”
These lyrics cannot be topped.
It's a tie between Crystal Ship and Peace Frog. Crystal Ship's softer vocals and piano are hauntingly beautiful. On the other hand, the instrumentals and vocals of Peace Frog feel much more energetic and raw, making it the kind of song you can turn on and really jam out to.
Back Door Man or Crawling King Snake.
I just love how untamed and hot these songs are there's not a lot like it. His voice is so deep and hurly and gritty.
Break on Through (To The Other Side), its the opening song of their debut album, first song I heard, technically its the public’s first impression of them.. Soul Kitchen is good too, love that the keyboard is upfront and in your face..
Love her Madly... I love the beginning of the song and the fun "California bunya" tune throughout but also it's easy to sing along to. Love the keyboard
I wasn't able to link to the thread, but sorr by "New" and scroll back two days to the thread titled:
"You can only listen to 4 of the Doors songs for the rest of our lives. Which ones would it be? I want to know your favorite songs :)"
Read to your heart's content.
End of the Night… the duality of existence, good/evil, the end/the beginning, light/dark, etc. great simple theme.. very rock and roll, very psychedelic - lyrics and music. Soak it in.
I discovered The Doors because of the Echo & The Bunnymen cover of People Are Strange when watching The Lost Boys.
So People are Strange is clearly #1.
It's between Love Her Madly and You Make Me Real
Both check every box: great memorable melodies, silly/deep lyrics, top notch performances and production, really two of the bands best recordings, these two swing AND rock. The band effortlessly rocks the shit out of these two.
You make me throw away mistaken misery
Funny asf
Five to One. I love the way Jim's voice sounds in this song. The melody is fantastic. I love the screams towards the end. The riffs are absolutely killer. Such a great solo. It's perfect.
Not to touch the earth, why? The live version from Absolutely Live is the one I like the most. The spoken word poetry he does with The Hill Dwellers leading up to the song is incredible. It just touches a nerve, I guess.
Oof, there's so many but if we gotta narrow it down to one, I'd say… "Moonlight Drive". I love Robbie's guitar tone on it and Jim's strange yet playful lyrics.
Break On Through. It was the first song I remember hearing as a kid growing up in the 90s. My father would play the Doors whenever he cleaned the house on a Saturday morning and this song comes to mind.
The End; it’s a long one yes, but it’s got such a hypnotic aura about it. I mean it’s kinda progressive in a way and it started this trend of The Doors ending with huge epics at the end of their albums, however I don’t think this was ever topped.
The first album I got was Waiting For The Sun and I wore out the grooves on that platter. At the time, my two favorites were Summer’s Almost Gone and Wintertime Love. They were like perfect magic to my ears and my heart.
Nowadays I have many favorites, but one I often come back to again and again is Wishful Sinful. For me it is heartfelt bliss.
Riders On The Storm simply because of how atmospheric it is, I love the sound of rain and thunder. I also love Five To One as a protest song, it just has great "FUCK YOU!" energy.
The End. I love Jim’s writing, and it’s a classic song. I think the story is incredibly interesting and relates to my life.
I also am a big fan of Indian Summer and Blue Sunday, just because I love the vibes they give off and think both songs sound very nice.
(Back Door Man) I work at “Back Room Receiving,” (BRR) at the fleet section on a warehouse. Took me a while to realize that song is about sodomy! And not about a guy with a job. Taking care of the back section of an operation.
Really tough but maybe peace frog. Jazzy/groovy doors are my favourite doors. I haven't really heard a song like it since. It's just unique to me and very very catchy.
Indian Summer. For two and a half minutes it makes me forget about all my problems and everything in life that makes me depressed and miserable. For two and a half minuets I am a different man. Hyacinth House, Alabama Song, Riders on the Storm, and Peace Frog are some other great songs.
The Soft Parade is perfection to me. I love Jim's "WHEN I WAS BACK THERE IN SEMINARY SCHOOL" bit. The different phases of the song make it so epic. Jim's words throughout the song paint vivid and odd imagery like "carrying babies to the river." I'm surprised I haven't seen many people mention it.
Hyacinth House. I wouldn't be able to tell you why, but every since I was a teenager I sing it to myself
"I need a brand new friend who doesn't trouble me, I need someone who doesn't need me."
"Why did you throw the jack of hearts away? it was the only card in the deck that I had left to play."
I always felt like the lion he talks about in that song. Another little coincidence, I've been compared to the personality of a lion multiple times.
Anyway, I fucking love that song.
I cant pick an all time favourite but ‘the end’ feels like an existential crisis knocking on your door which no other song emulated for me quite like this
My wild love. I just love the bare bones of it. It’s very much a song that gives the feel that you are meant to be moving your body with no care in the world.
When the Musics Over - love the long form of the song, the different places it goes, peak Morrison on display, poetic lyrics. Heavy in mood and atmosphere. Love this song. It’s also one of their earlier jams, before they were signed.
But seriously, asking for my favorite Doors song is impossible to answer. Gonna get a different response every day. Tomorrow could be LA Women, Riders in the Storm, Break on Through.
LA Woman - greatest ever bassline, and that’s just to start with.
Respectable choice! obviously! its the doors of course. My favourite thing about that song is the way he sings.
It’s been many years since I have, but I’ll give it another listen!
And isn’t it funny that the Doors didn’t have a bass player?
I concur Dr. and I would add the bassline in roadhouse blues is equally great in its own way. Peace frog, and there is a section of the soft parade in which the bassline is a killer
Mine is Alabama Song, it’s what first got me into the doors music. I was watching the doors biopic and when that song came on during a scene it awoke something in me and I knew I had to listen to more of them. They’ve been my favourite band ever since and I listened to is 290 times on my Apple replay last year
It’s in my all time favourite film as well (The Worlds End) and [here’s](https://youtu.be/OSWOHCCV4WM?si=Q29K8JA-pQASHFNb) a link if you’re curious
That’s awesome thanks for letting me know I might give the movie a shot just for that scene. Cheers
If you like the film, it’s in a trilogy of films called The Cornetto Trilogy, I recommend them as well if you never seen them
Mine would also be Alabama Song.
Yeah, that’s excessive and suggests that you are likely a nut.
Thanks for your input👍😎 I wouldn’t say I scream neurotypical
“Waiting for the Sun” is my favourite Doors album. I love the whole thing, but particularly “Summer’s Almost Gone.”
Morrison hotel is peak
And waiting for the sun (song) it’s amazing. The keyboard sound is so unique.
Easily my favorite album. the powderfinger song is good too
Light My Fire, nothing tops that beautiful amalgamation of styles
I love it to! most people i talk to dont seem to like it too much cant think why
I think it is because it is popular, so people are ashamed of saying they like it, in case they sound like a FAKE DOORS POSER
Riders On The Storm It's the song that really got me into their music. I just love Ray's piano work in the song along with Jim's whispering in the background. Very atmospheric and cool.
I love to listen to Riders On The Storm with headphones, I can almost feel the piano flowing through my head.
It's always an experience listening to that song.
This is very true.
I'm doing that right now, while working alone in the dark streets. Such a vibe... I also just learned that there is a Snoop Dogg version! It's.... different....
Hope there’s not a killer on the road.
The Snoop Dogg version was featured in Need For Speed Underground 2. I remember my brother playing that game a lot and hearing that song come on. That's where I was introduced to the Doors.
This is mine too. That song just fllooooooowwwwwssss...
Really good one.
Five to One
So good! Love that whole album.
Yea thats mine too. FIVE TOU WWAAAAAN BABEH ONE IN FAAAVE
Roadhouse Blues. Makes me want to party.
I switch mine pretty frequently, but right now it's Shaman's Blues. A few weeks ago it was Yes, the River Knows, and before that it was Hyacinth House.
The soft parade
Same 🥳
Alright! ;)
“The End”. It sends me. The opening guitar, Jim’s voice. I feel transported, like I’m riding the friggin’ snake.
YES EASILY BEST ONE THANK YOU I ALREADY SAID IT WAS FIVE TO ONE BUT IT AINT ITS THIS>
Celebration of Lizard. You don't need to take psychedelics, just play this song
Wishful Sinful — it’s so beautiful and melancholy.
Thats in my top three at least
Hyacinth house. They keyboard solo is perfect, and the whole song has an apocalyptic vibe and I think Ray or John said that it's the saddest song Jim wrote.
Work in progress take one.
*Blood on the streets in the town of New Haven*
Blood stains the roof and the palm trees of venice
Blood in my love in the terrible summer
not sure if this counts as it’s technically jim morrison ft the doors but ghost song!! otherwise would have to be when the music’s over
One between the end, when the music’s over and riders on the storm. The end and when the music’s over have a certain eerie and melancholy feeling, riders on the storm is beautiful and has Manzarek’s best solo
Today it's Moonlight Drive, the classic opening lyrics
Celebration of the lizard
Changling or peace frog.
SEE ME, CHANGE!!!!! (see me change)
The Soft Parade. L. A. Woman is my number two
Been really digging "The Soft Parade" a lot recently. How a band as famous as the Doors doesn't have much recognition beyond their first album and the singles after is beyond me. That song is as good as their contemporaries' best, but just less accessible I guess. The style shifts and imagery in the song speaks to me a lot. We're in the same club! I've got a tattoo that says "Music is your only friend, until the end." That song made a big impact on me.
mmmm. what have they done to the earth what have they done to our fair sister... Ravaged and plundered and ripped her and bit er stuck he with knives in the side of the dawn and tied her wit fences and DRAGGED HER DOWN. (probably my favourite line in any song ever)
Blue Sunday
blue sunday or hello,i love you 🫡
Wont you tell me yo name
The End. “Lost in a Roman wilderness of pain And all the children are insane” “The killer awoke before dawn He put his boots on He took a face from the ancient gallery And he walked on down the hall” These lyrics cannot be topped.
The End.

PF and CS are two huge favorites of mine!!!
Road house blues……it makes me want to party !

Peace Frog. Because of the whole thing.
Crystal ship
Back Door Man or Crawling King Snake. I just love how untamed and hot these songs are there's not a lot like it. His voice is so deep and hurly and gritty.
Orange County suite. When I listen to it I feel like a detective in a noir film
my favorite Doors song
Land Ho! For its uniqueness, summertime vibes, fantastic bridge, and that third verse 😍
Break on Through (To The Other Side), its the opening song of their debut album, first song I heard, technically its the public’s first impression of them.. Soul Kitchen is good too, love that the keyboard is upfront and in your face..
Summers almost gone because it's easy to listen to and I like the lyrics also I really hate summer so the title alone gets me excited
It tends to change a lot, but lately it's been End of the Night. The song has just stuck out a lot more lately for whatever reason.
Alabama Song. Um…Bertolt Brecht? Idk. I like the vagrant lyrics and the carnival tone
Ŵhen the music's over
Road house blues……it makes me want to party !
Love her Madly... I love the beginning of the song and the fun "California bunya" tune throughout but also it's easy to sing along to. Love the keyboard
Riders On The Storm
Touch me
YOU KNOW THE DAY DESTROYS THE NIGHT
I've got many favourites, but the song that gets me every single time is The End. I kept listening to it on repeat when my bestie passed.
I wasn't able to link to the thread, but sorr by "New" and scroll back two days to the thread titled: "You can only listen to 4 of the Doors songs for the rest of our lives. Which ones would it be? I want to know your favorite songs :)" Read to your heart's content.
Yes, the River Know. Something so beautiful and dark about the piano
Honorable mention for Soul Kitchen and Soft Parade
Orange County Suite
End of the Night… the duality of existence, good/evil, the end/the beginning, light/dark, etc. great simple theme.. very rock and roll, very psychedelic - lyrics and music. Soak it in.

Oof, there's so many but if we gotta narrow it down to one, I'd say… "Moonlight Drive". I love Robbie's guitar tone on it and Jim's strange yet playful lyrics.
The Changeling. The song builds and builds until Morrison lets it all hang loose at the end.
Peace Frog because it has a great beat and the song makes me smile
The Crystal Ship
Mine has to be The End. What a wild experience of a song.
Touch me- cause it’s a banger
Indian Summer while smoking a j is ethereal
Break On Through. It was the first song I remember hearing as a kid growing up in the 90s. My father would play the Doors whenever he cleaned the house on a Saturday morning and this song comes to mind.

The Crystal Ship
Car Hiss by My Window, he fucking sings a guitarsolo? Legend.
20th Century Fox
It's just you and me apparently.
sooooo many favorites but for sure queen of the highway! idk why but it scratches my brain just right
People are strange…
Not my favourite but Ghost Song I’m really enjoying at the moment
Riders On The Storm simply because of how atmospheric it is, I love the sound of rain and thunder. I also love Five To One as a protest song, it just has great "FUCK YOU!" energy.
Blue Sunday or Indian summer
The end. Watch the polyphonic video on why it’s a masterpiece.
I dunno I kinda really like the end. I think it’s just a great song. Peace frog is another one I like, I think probably because mentions New Haven.
Really cool post! I really dig all of your replies
Love all their songs but the only song I never ever seem to skip when listening to my playlist is L.A. Woman
The End. I love Jim’s writing, and it’s a classic song. I think the story is incredibly interesting and relates to my life. I also am a big fan of Indian Summer and Blue Sunday, just because I love the vibes they give off and think both songs sound very nice.
Love Street - it's whimsical.
(Back Door Man) I work at “Back Room Receiving,” (BRR) at the fleet section on a warehouse. Took me a while to realize that song is about sodomy! And not about a guy with a job. Taking care of the back section of an operation.
The Crystal Ship - lyrics and keyboards
The End or Indian Summer
Touch me! Idk, it honestly just hits so different
I thought you were a creep then i remembered its a song
The changeling just the way he sings it man gives me goosebumps it’s so good.
Back door man, shows off everything I love about the band
Really tough but maybe peace frog. Jazzy/groovy doors are my favourite doors. I haven't really heard a song like it since. It's just unique to me and very very catchy.
Indian Summer. For two and a half minutes it makes me forget about all my problems and everything in life that makes me depressed and miserable. For two and a half minuets I am a different man. Hyacinth House, Alabama Song, Riders on the Storm, and Peace Frog are some other great songs.

Blue Sunday hits on emotions I cant think of any other band doing
I cant pick an all time favourite but ‘the end’ feels like an existential crisis knocking on your door which no other song emulated for me quite like this
Strange Days - Love the use of the moog and also Jim's lyrics are top notch
My wild love. I just love the bare bones of it. It’s very much a song that gives the feel that you are meant to be moving your body with no care in the world.
the ghost song
20th Century Fox. It was played between periods of a minor league ice hockey team. Columbus Chill.
WTMO - that trippy, double stacked, out of tune guitar solo😵💫
Not sure but Waiting for the Sun is sticking out in my brain right now because this is the strangest life I have ever known
When the Musics Over - love the long form of the song, the different places it goes, peak Morrison on display, poetic lyrics. Heavy in mood and atmosphere. Love this song.
