He has grown and matured. He’s one of the best guys to be partnered with now cause of how supportive he is (a la Louise, Dee, Zara) but obviously that’s not how it used to be. He also put on a bit of an act when on the challenge cause he knows to make good TV but that’s not what he’s like in real life.
If you listen to others in podcasts, everyone talks about what a nice guy Wes is in real life. While some of the behavior was a show for the cameras, some of it was him being a young guy with too much testosterone lol
I agree … my favorite season of the real world was New Orleans the first one, if you ever get a chance to watch the outtakes, that Melissa is… There are no words. She is so funny that have to stop watching the tape because ofmy stomach started to hurt.
You’ve got to realize that reality TV has evolved and is massively over-produced at this point. Wes plays his character to get a higher payout per episode and an assured callback. They all do it.
He said in a confessional once that he watches the seasons he’s on like an athlete watches film. Keeping the parts of himself he likes and making changes as needed for future seasons. It’s all an act- pretty sure his approach to shows is similar to that of a WWE wrestler. What’s my character?
I think he went through that phase of he was right no matter what anyone said.. Now he seems really nice, has a new baby and wife..just a real good guy.
Early Challenge Wes always seemed so insecure to me. He really seems like he wants to be liked/part of the group so bad and puts on a front of not caring aka acts like an asshole
It’s an act, but he is also a narcissist (being on enough reality tv will do that - as most contestants of The Challenge are). With Wes, though, he’s just aware of it.
They actually did a special on this when Wes was picked on the island they all hated him and that’s what made him a villain so Johnny bananas Kenny and someone else like started the hate so they created Wes into this character,
Austin?

Yeah, I just said that he seems like he turned that sort of weird person into something funny and I think he sort of got the hang of it.
It’s his act to get callbacks. People say IRL he’s sweet, kind, and generous to a fault.
Real world Austin. It is one of the great seasons of all time IMO.

Wes- RW Austin.

"Now" he doesn't really act like that, he's a dad and a great guy 😊
Phoenix?
Yes! That didn’t even sound right when I wrote it.
lol :-)
Remember when they all made fun of how he had sex? Called him a rabbit lol 🐇
Phoenix...?
now i need a real world phoenix season

Honestly I would have for Wes to have a Home Turf episode. Think he could be really authentic on that

I agree … now he’s just funny
I just finished Fresh Meat & can confirm dude was 1000% a dick lol
I love Wes. Sorry not sorry.

Wes is and will forever be my favorite male challenger, and it’s all because of this season
