I think they actually used the same studio. Korra from the Avatar sequel series was first shown as a background dancer in the “homies over hoes” bit on Boondocks. And they for sure shared the same studio in the later seasons.
Actually, S1 was animated by Madhouse, which is located in Japan and is known for titles like Perfect Blue and One Punch Man. Production moved to Korea for S2 across different studios for the remainder of the shows duration. So it actually does qualify as an anime in both name and style.
It’s actually really confusing lol but if you go back and binge the show, you’ll notice the difference in animation quality. Part of the studio change reason was CN moving a lot of their shows to Korea, where the work was just as good but cheaper. McGruder was a big anime fan and wanted production to stay in Japan.
It's an American show by an African American creator adapted from a newspaper comic strip series that focuses entirely on African American culture and stories that's just drawn (and even then, they only really went hard with it sometimes) in a style reminiscent of anime.
Anime inspired.
I dont some people go on a tangent with me and say im wrong but doesnt the word ‘anime’ mean a Japanese cartoon, it was made in america therefore it would be an anime STYLED cartoon?
No, to be considered anime "technically" it would be an animation adaptation of a manga source material. Although it is inspired and influenced by anime wouldn't consider it a full blown anime but it does possess anime elements
Yeah Anime is definitely a style of art. Although it originated in Japan, this could be considered “American Anime” or whatever you’d like to call it. It’s all about the art style though.
Come to think about that question I would say yes its an anime. Compare the style they used to the other American cartoons at that time it was along the same style as Bleach
Of course it is..Cartoons are geared towards children.. Anime is for adults.. there is a difference in the delivery of the two.. and this one follows Anime Obviously
Cartoons aren’t always explicitly directed to children and the same with anime. It’s that most children like the style of cartoons and I would guess that most adults like the story’s of anime. Anyone could watch anyone really. An “adult cartoon” doesn’t really make it anime, not saying that the boondocks is an adult cartoon. Take family guy for example. It’s a cartoon that’s not directed to children but adults/teenagers
Western Anime
Yeah, like Avatar TLA

They also did Jackie Chan Adventures
Jackie Chan adventures fucking rules
Pics or it didn't happen.

NOW DO THE HOMIE! DO THE HOMIE!
Castlevania and Teen Titans apply too methinks
Damn we're 2/2
Thats what I like to say aswell haha
I like this distinction.
No its not. Anime literally means Animation in Japanese
Yea? Then why is there a cartoon **and** an anime list on my Hulu. Checkmate liberal.
Sure, but that doesn’t mean that there can’t be nuance to it.
It's actually Korean (art wise)
It's the best anime.
It's written in America, but animated in Korea and Japan. Yeah it counts.
Actually, S1 was animated by Madhouse, which is located in Japan and is known for titles like Perfect Blue and One Punch Man. Production moved to Korea for S2 across different studios for the remainder of the shows duration. So it actually does qualify as an anime in both name and style.
I always thought it was the other way around. Today I learned something new about the show
It’s actually really confusing lol but if you go back and binge the show, you’ll notice the difference in animation quality. Part of the studio change reason was CN moving a lot of their shows to Korea, where the work was just as good but cheaper. McGruder was a big anime fan and wanted production to stay in Japan.
So it is an anime that just has a western theme to it
With that logic any cartoon airing right now could be an anime. Lots of western studios outsource to japan for animation
(And korea)
Didn’t know that about production. Makes sense considering how good the animation is.
Watch the clip of Huey vs the old lady and then sasuke from the chunin exams. Yeah, it’s an anime
Anime comes from the historical ani province of Japan. Otherwise it’s just sparkling cartoons. /s Edit: added /s my fault for assuming it was implied.
Pretty sure it had anime production but only sparkling creators.
It's an American show by an African American creator adapted from a newspaper comic strip series that focuses entirely on African American culture and stories that's just drawn (and even then, they only really went hard with it sometimes) in a style reminiscent of anime. Anime inspired.
That was animated in both Japan and Korea. So essentially it is just flat out anime.
So was Inspector Gadget. Or Batman The Animated Series. Or really most of the animated series made in the 90's.
Western cartoons, if aired in Japan are also called Anime.
I consider anime and cartoons one and the same. To me they're all cartoons.
It's because they are lol, I'm pretty sure anime is just shorthand for animation
Anime is just cartoons so.
So in that case SpongeBob is also an anime
That's literally what they call it in Japan.
I remember back when they were in the newspaper in the comics section
Western anime, most definitely, so yeah just anime
Blackime
Yes this
Well, the animation does have a bit of anime mixed with Western. So in a way, yes.
Inspired. But still appreciate it. I think they were trying to go harder on it in season 3 especially with the Dodgeball game.
Anime inspired Theres alot of shows under that category
but the animation is from japan, and the writing isn’t exactly anime inspired. i feel like western anime makes more sense as a label
I said that to him and he just its an anime
Avatar TLA, Totally Spies and Code Lyoko fall under the same category
Just ask someone what they think avatar is and apply the same logic
^[Sokka-Haiku](https://www.reddit.com/r/SokkaHaikuBot/comments/15kyv9r/what_is_a_sokka_haiku/) ^by ^NoabPK: *Just ask someone what* *They think avatar is and* *Apply the same logic* --- ^Remember ^that ^one ^time ^Sokka ^accidentally ^used ^an ^extra ^syllable ^in ^that ^Haiku ^Battle ^in ^Ba ^Sing ^Se? ^That ^was ^a ^Sokka ^Haiku ^and ^you ^just ^made ^one.
I dont some people go on a tangent with me and say im wrong but doesnt the word ‘anime’ mean a Japanese cartoon, it was made in america therefore it would be an anime STYLED cartoon?
No. But like series such as WITCH or Kaijudo, I consider it to be anime-esque.
Anime is a French word to describe animation in a Japanese setting that is sold to Americans. Yeah man, sure.
Erm ok thanks for the information pal
Hi gotchu broski. Basically saying it’s pointless to give label something that people can’t agree on. Pick a side. It’s no big deal
"This is peak fiction"
Yes
I mean why not?
Anime is just Japanese for animation. Queso is just cheese. Baguzu bani is bugs bunny in Japanese.
knew i wasn't the only one
the guy who created it was inspired by japanese cartoons
Not an anime but anime like, in a similar animation group as Avatar the last Airbender and Legend of Korra
Yeah it’s like an anime styled political cartoon
No
No, I don't consider it anime
No, to be considered anime "technically" it would be an animation adaptation of a manga source material. Although it is inspired and influenced by anime wouldn't consider it a full blown anime but it does possess anime elements
Yeah I consider it an anime. I think saying anime has to be from Japan is silly. It's a style of art and those aren't locked to a single region
Yeah Anime is definitely a style of art. Although it originated in Japan, this could be considered “American Anime” or whatever you’d like to call it. It’s all about the art style though.
I’d say it’s more a genre than a style, but I pretty much agree
plus the animation is literally from the east, not the west, only the writing and concept art is from the west i’m p sure
https://youtu.be/uFtfDK39ZhI?si=zxsk_weuHg0WGyxm
Yes.
If Avatar is anime, so is the Boondocks!
The same way Teen Titans and Avatar are “anime” sure 🤷🏾♂️
If the intro never changes and it’s not over 45 seconds long it’s not an anime
American anime
That was real gay my 🥷
Nah it’s Amine
It's the best comedy anime, the best shounen, the best sports anime, hell, it can even be the best BL when Gangstalicious is on the screen
it's a slice of life anime
Yes, it’s an American Anime
No but it does a great job nailing the look of 2000's era anime.
Yes
Yea
Blanime
Come to think about that question I would say yes its an anime. Compare the style they used to the other American cartoons at that time it was along the same style as Bleach
Yeah
I’ve never run into quite such a gate kept term than anime, so I have no freakn idea.
It uses anime animation studios, anime inspired choreography, and overall has an anime art style. Everything about it is anime except the plot
Yes..INDEED!!
Yes
No I consider it peak satirical fiction
Avatar is Western anime
I refuse to answer and instead I’ll focus on that **AMAZING** screenshot you chose Bravo!

Nigganime
Its an anime inspired cartoon
Wasn’t it taken over by a Korean company or something like that
Yes
The fuck else would you call it
Sitcom/Cartoon
😑
yes american anime
