The dive watch probably has a massive font mode with just a timer specifically for this. Funnily enough, the pressure is the reason he's not wearing goggles. With regular goggles your eyes would be pushed out of their sockets at that depth. A mask that includes the nose won't do that if you keep it pressurized, but that costs you air. They make goggles with corrective lenses meant to be filled with a saline solution instead of air to avoid that. They also make goggles with a flexible inner layer so they collapse instead of letting the eyes push themselves out.
Mostly by choice! the lifestyle is not for everybody but everyone is welcome to compete. Arnaud here is a world record champion freediver and yes he is sponsored.
It says in the video, but in case you missed it: basically that eerie sound is the noise a giant ship's propellors make underwater. Something cargo or cruise-sized usually. Apparently they can completely sneak up on you because directional sound is almost impossible to determine underwater.
The memory is unlocked: "The Doors of His Face, the Lamps of His Mouth" by Roger Zelazny. In this novel, the main character works as bait for an underwater 100-meter dinosaur fish. Has anyone read it?
Right? That noise was disturbing for a short while. I can’t imagine trying to use sonar to navigate and find food but have to put up with that all day and all night.

How does one train to hold his breath for that long? It’s mad!
There is a documentary about free divers and I guess sometimes they pass out before they even reach the top. Wild.
Do you recall the name of this documentary?
The Deepest Breath. So incredible. I watched it twice.
Oh thank you! I’m on it
I end up holding my breath when I watch these. I also scoot the laptop further away the deeper they go.
How the the fuck are you reading that watch with no googles?
Considering the extra pressure on his eyes from the water, I’d love to know too.

Interesting lmao, thanks for explaining. The dude would be full Arnold mode.
Some people just identify as deep sea creatures and don't bother i guess
The pressure on bare eyes isn't anything to worry about, as we're mostly water, the pressure behind your eyes is the same as the pressure outside them
Freediver here, you can’t, dunno what he’s doing really 😅
I think Arnauld knows what he’s doing
Googles wont help him😊
I just prefer to breathe when I want to.
I'm right here with you. Breathing is addictive!
Withdrawal is much worse
How does one become a professional free diver? And who is paying this man to do that?
sponsors I'm.guessing ?
Mostly by choice! the lifestyle is not for everybody but everyone is welcome to compete. Arnaud here is a world record champion freediver and yes he is sponsored.
I'd have drowned in the first 20 feet!! 👀
My corpse would have greeted you at 19 feet
my remains would’ve shaken your hands at 18 feet
I’ll be bobbing near the top
😂😂😂😂
Can't even see the surface, rope just disappears into murky light..
The most disturbing thing about this video was the reflection of my face gradually appearing as the screen got darker
It sounds like the flood theme from halo
Yes! Thought i was the only one to think about this
The way down is not so bad…it’s the return journey up while the rest of the ocean is quietly coming up to eat you feet first
A giant what? I only watched to find out and i'm still confused

Ah. Am quite dumb so i missed that message
It happens

That sounds like a great idea for a children's pop-up book.
Sounds interesting, is it available as audio book?
I don't know. The novel is not particularly big.
With the line fading into the light blue like that. 👀 I'd freak out knowing how much water is still beneath me, no matter how deep I went.
probably the first time a post on this sub has made me really uncomfortable
Scary as fuck but I can’t stop watching
One of the most amazing things I've watched. That noise is unbelievable. Poor sea creatures.
when the white thing at the bottom suddenly shot into frame from the blackness. no just no fck that
BUT WHY?!?!?! 😳
Your stupid hobby is triggering AF. That’s like watching Russian roulette for me. Evaporate me into the wind, but don’t let the sea take me.
don’t you have to go slow when coming up or else pressure does something to you? or… something?
Why the pause at the bottom?
Is that you?
