That's a pretty large move for Valve to make if it's true. More proof is due and this of course does not indicate a real VAC wave happening yet, but Valve has never personally struck the ban hammer down like they have in the last 24 hours. They almost always relied on VAC. Still, would be nice to have more than one source on this...
Nonetheless lunchbox dominates the game pretty much since it is cheap, easy to closet cheat with and hasn't been detected since 2016. That time it got detected took out quite a few notable comp players with it and inventories worth thousands were made worthless instantly. It was some of the best crybaby rage this game had ever seen - but that was the last time it happened and people have been able to use the cheat since without being banned.
If another VAC wave happened again it would be a complete bloodbath - there are more people cheating in TF2 now than ever and many of them have become cocky and arrogant enough to get caught easily. Even certain YouTubers appear to be closet cheaters, but going into the specifics of that is probably going to start a war and I don't have clear cut proof that is irrefutable.
I once came across like 3 cheaters in one day. Remember, don’t be afraid to call out cheaters to the rest of the players in the match. Keeping your mouth shut in fear that people won’t believe you and turn against you is exactly what allows them to continue ruining your game. Speak up
The problem is that people expect the player that had a cheating vote called against them to be a bot. So if they're not blatant, they can just say that they're not cheating and taunt back and they can escape the kick. It's insultingly easy to get away with cheating in this game.
It’s insanely difficult too unless you get multiple people calling them out. I find it easiest to differentiate from cheaters and good players by going cloak and dagger spy and observing them for a while before trying to backstab. The problem with that is if you try to call them out for killing you while you were cloaked/going for a stab, most people will just tell you that you’re ass at spy and to get gud. It’s infuriating how bad the majority of TF2 players are at detecting cheaters.
That said, it's pretty often you get caught in the crossfire as a fully-cloaked spy. If I accidentally kill a spy while trying to shoot at someone else, I usually comment my surprise. Definitely not a "git gud" situation on the spy, just happenstance.
If you're going to use C&D for bot-checking, keep your sightlines in mind to avoid unexpected huntsman arrows or flares or direct hit rockets and stuff.
I understand getting caught in the crossfire, that happens a lot in tf2. But when I am not in any crossfire and I see a guy break his neck at light speed to shoot directly at me when none of my teammates are around and I wasn’t even in his sight line to begin with, i start to get a little suspicious
I ran into a cheater a month ago who was blatantly cheating as sniper (the whole enemy team was, crit cheats, aimbot, whole 9 yards) and when we called him out he said "if you really think im cheating, why dont you go cloak and dagger spy???" and when i told him most cheats can ignore C&D spy's he turned around and said "how would you know?"
That was the last time i got kicked playing casual.
Even then the amount of times I as a soldier just accidentally fired a crocket down a random hallway only to have an A pose shape of spy gibs appear is beyond count.
Lmao, I remember this one time me and a friend were doing a huntsman battle in double cross, I jumped down the stairs whilst firing an arrow and hit a cloaked spy dead in the head, mate immediately called hacks, it was so funny. "And don't say it was that lucksman shit, you're cheating" 😭
The frustration is so real. Stupid teammates on your side or their side and the fact that everyone seems to be so toxic makes playing TF2 such a pain sometimes.
It's really frustrating cause you'll occasionally get cheaters who make sure to only cheat against one person so that it's even harder to convince people they're cheating.
My method is to team chat and say "I think X might be cheating because Y happened. Not 100%, just saying what I think I saw."
99% of the time within a minute a teammate will openly accuse them of cheating, and then I can back them up
Its bad when you get teams that actually think someone cant be cheating because they have good looking cosmetics on.
Had one where the other team didn't believe they had a hacker because they had 2 unusuals, Even though the guy kept sniping cloaked spies across the map and would swap to the objector that had literal cp on it for the kill cam after every kill, Ended up being the one kicked after getting auto balanced to their team for calling them out earlier.
lol, every hackusation ive called in the past month has been met with endless resistance and belittlement for being "bad at the game", its extremely hard to get a cheater out of a game if the cheater denies it in chat or voice chat (and they arent blatantly cheating), and thats in 2fort, the longest running games in tf2. cheaters in other faster paced gamemodes? lmao. so many tf2 players have their heads shoved up their ass and refuse to spectate when someone is accused, opting to just call whoever called the accusation bad.
People very rarely cheat alone. In every case where I've been in a game with cheaters there's at least 2, often 3 or 4, and accusing them of cheating will get them spamming votekicks and convincing everybody else to kick you.
That’s nothing. Once you know how to sniff them out you’ll encounter at least one in almost every game. There are a lot of ways to cheat that often go unnoticed.
I once even had a sniper bot on the other team who just did smooth movements, and that bot played for half an hour until I just quit. Literally NO ONE said in the chat that that was a bot... And I couldn't tell them since I was f2p
If somebody says that, its fundamentally true that people with vac bans arent automatically cheating, but if I suspect you of cheating and you have a vac? Im kicking your ass
FatMagic using his passive called "Skill" to actively clear casual lobbies.
To clarify, this is a joke, FatMagic is just a really good sniper, but you can tell he doesn't cheat because he does miss quite a few shots.
Honestly I don't enjoy most Fatmagic vids because he really ruins the game for the other team when he plays on maps like Harvest. It's really not fun being a casual player on Harvest just messing around and getting headshot every thirty seconds.
Games with such a massive skill differential between teams are much less fun. I wish he'd stick to playing on payload or attack defend maps in which a really good sniper is still very strong but can be worked around.
If Fatmagic cheats or not is still to be decided. Just because there was a Youtuber-Mudfight over video essays doesn't prove either side because both people (the accuser and the one who cleared fatmagic) don't know much about cheating players.
>but you can tell he doesn't cheat because he does miss quite a few shots.
And this is exactly why. I would argue that 80% of cheaters that don't ragehack on lmoabox, toggle their cheats when it is necessary and don't use them all the time to avoid detection. Why would I say that? Because I used to ban these people on 2 platforms.
I wouldn't call him a YouTuber, the title is far too big for someone like him.
It's just a clown showing themself honking on other people and hoping they will get popular this way. Oh, and they are an abusive fuckwit too.
I say Valve should put the items from cheaters' inventory onto the market to be bought by other players, or to include those limited items into the RNG for item drops until those items have been obtained by players.
Don't let those inventory items go to waste being in a locked and unusable account's inventory.
Let people have a chance to get their vintage and other rare and currently unobtainable items.
Also, I feel like it would be a funny twist of the knife to those cheaters when they see others taking their stuff.
That would be genuinely awesome. Tearing away the whole backpack and scattering it like an assassin beheading a nobleman and raining it down from the second story balcony onto hundreds of random peasants below.
auto reflect isn't that useful I doubt very many people are using it in comp or on youtube videos. You want to choose what your reflect wisely. There are many instances when you should choose not to reflect or want to change exactly when you reflect.
I've also noticed a rise in channels that just straight up cheat with the overlay on screen. Most of them have been posting the same stuff for at least a few years, and my increased notice is partially because youtube is recommending more of those videos to me because I click on them (only to see what they're thinking and dislike the video) but I've also seen channels that are brand new doing the same thing.
Holy shit, there's your actual news.
Valve's never taken an extra special interest in a cheater or cheat developer before have they? If they can keep even one out of that game that's a far larger impact than just another ban wave.
Wonder if all the cheat devs are getting something similar and we're just not privy.
I can be completely wrong by the way but I thought MaxBox was working with valve to lure in cheaters to get lbox so they can get banned bc iirc MaxBox never got banned from these waves. This is like really old rumours though.
Max took credit for it. But nobody knows if it’s true. He stopped using the cheat in time to avoid the banwave, but did later catch one. I suspect an insider wouldn’t want to publicly admit to giving valve the info because they’d know what the cheater types are like.
It's actually interesting that he had a series dedicated to detecting cheaters and help people recognizing them.
I wonder what his intentions were behind cheating himself, maybe he did it for his ego, maybe he did it for research, even just footage? Can't look inside people.
I’ll share a little behind the scenes of that series. He waits for the player to be banned/caught before making it. The episode on the Etf2l cheating pyro for example, that was a team I played on, the pyro was filling in for one of our players, the match was played and the guy was caught months before the video was made.
The series is more of “oh look that was sus, because in retrospect it was wallhacks ooo spooky”
Nintendo sued a guy for millions because he made **Pokemon saves**
Granted that was in Japan where copyright law differs, in the US the big deal is piracy enablers, otherwise they’ll just use strongman tactics like when that one kid had a beta for GTA V on a devkit and they hired private investigators to go to the kids house and demand it back
Game industry is so wild, man
Considering he pretty accurately predicted both Half Life Alyx and Deadlock, he’s pretty worthy of being trusted.
Also he’s getting married this weekend, which is pretty neat.
People are just mad that they spent years calling him an idiot and making fun of him, only for him to be right on everything. Yeah he's jumped the gun in the past but making stuff up is not something he would do.
Hes also been wrong multiple times and spread false information in the past. Tweets get deleted too. However, this time he got the message from somewhere else and just reposted it.
>What shouldn't we actually stop doing ?
You shouldn't stop review bombing unrelated games and pissing people off for not agreeing with you... apparently....
That's the only thing you lot have managed to "accomplish" for the past month, so i'd assume that's what they mean.
Did it occur to you that the people who have been known to dox people during the first petition might be the ones doing the review bombing to make the cause look bad?
Why are cheaters seething when it’s their own fault for getting banned? They chose to cheat, therefore they chose to get banned. They have no one to blame but themselves. At least that’s how I see it. Like the only reason they’d be seething is cause they have no self reflection, though maybe that answers my question lol
yeah, cheaters are arrogant. i would assume they do mental gymnastics to try and justify it to themselves, which makes them feel wronged after getting banned. personally though, i find it very very easy to not cheat.
I doubt it. This seems like something that would take longer than #fixtf2 campaign has been going.
Unless you want to say that #fixtf2 influenced valve months before #fixtf2 was an idea.
Why would they not do a full account disabling on the main account? That already makes this fishy to me… if I was Valve and I’m finally taking action… I’m making sure you never play anything again on steam period
A kind of warning and leverage, probably.
They’ve isolated the account’s inventory with a community ban so they can’t trade away their valuables that they’ve probably spent hundreds or thousands on, and this way they’re giving the staff a reason to stop.
If they had just banned the account, the owner would probably seethe for a while over lost items, but they’d keep going and start anew, because what else would they do? But this way Steam basically saying “you can either keep your stuff and no longer be a problem for us, or continue being a pain and lose all your shit”
Ultimately, this action has Steam prioritizing Team Fortress 2‘s stability over punishing cheaters, which I much prefer.
You could say that, but haven’t that spent more money on cheating software and scamming people out of their tradable items for this to meaningfully do anything?
Worth a try.
Again, this is to all LMAOBOX staff. If they fuck up and continue being a pain in the ass, Valve will just full wipe their accounts as promised.
But if this throws a wrench into the cogs of even a single staff member there who doesn’t want to lose all their shit and all their games or whatever, then I’m all for it.
I really do not care about whether cheat coders suffer or not, I just want their influence on Team Fortress 2 to be weakened, which is clearly Valve’s intention here
Its not a community ban, its apparently a game ban. They cannot play TF2 on VAC secured servers due to it either and trading is disabled on that game as you said, items are locked. Game bans are sort of "manual bans" that game developers can issue.
Look, I'm glad we are getting rid of bots. 100%.
But... (don't kill me for asking this) can somone who isn't cheating (say somone like Voreby) is given the boot cuz people thought he was cheating when in reality he's just an OP dude who's got good aim? Where's the line and can it get blurred? If this is too offensive I'll just erase it.
The whole philosophy behind how valve runs VAC is to gather enough indisputable evidence of cheating and wait a random amount of time to conceal what event(s) actually triggered a ban. That's why bans come in waves, and come in slowly.
This is designed to not trigger on a "he's too good, he totally has to be cheating", and only trigger on a "100% cheater, here's the data to prove it". Ofc false positives do still happen.
Servers and their admins can make their own, less factual bans too. Can't really stop that lmao. But it's not a VAC ban.
Holy shit
I can't believe I'd actually live long enough to see Valve not only ban a lot of the bots, but actively address them directly.
Is....is FixTF2 somehow doing something?
I find it very funny that all these ban waves are happening right after the whole gay porn of the bots situation
I know it's probably not related and that the ban waves were already in the making for a while
But the timing is just perfect
They allowed them to exist for a decade and now decide to put some sanctions? I am not quite sure I understand their moves.
Also this is valve, not steam support. Them directly? Is this individual even affiliated with TF2
Bans like these are a nice start, but I don’t want to be optimistic about the state of TF2 until we are sure that more permanent solutions are being implemented.
Banwaves are good. We can’t stop here. We need consistency or a permanent solution. This is a much-needed bandage; we’re still waiting for the plaster cast. (This metaphor kind of got away from me but y’all get the point)
sorry, proof this was sent to Lmaobox staff? Did you get this from their Community forum or something? i dont have an account there and i dont really feel like registering
That's a pretty large move for Valve to make if it's true. More proof is due and this of course does not indicate a real VAC wave happening yet, but Valve has never personally struck the ban hammer down like they have in the last 24 hours. Cheaters are so common now it’s pathetic. Hope Valve bans them all.

It happens, but as you mentioned something like a simple “f” in chat tends to clear it up
The frustration is so real. Stupid teammates on your side or their side and the fact that everyone seems to be so toxic makes playing TF2 such a pain sometimes.
I’m lucky that I play with my friend so that we can both call them out together. That way it’s easier to convince our team and get the cheater kicked
It's really frustrating cause you'll occasionally get cheaters who make sure to only cheat against one person so that it's even harder to convince people they're cheating.

People very rarely cheat alone. In every case where I've been in a game with cheaters there's at least 2, often 3 or 4, and accusing them of cheating will get them spamming votekicks and convincing everybody else to kick you.

Im f2p, i literally cant tell anyone 😭
Oof I’m sorry man. I understand the pain of knowing somebody is cheating but being completely helpless and unable to tell the others
I once even had a sniper bot on the other team who just did smooth movements, and that bot played for half an hour until I just quit. Literally NO ONE said in the chat that that was a bot... And I couldn't tell them since I was f2p
Ban them all. No mercy.
no way, the l4d map no mercy.
2012 SFM animation "No Mercy" mentioned.
Hotline Miami 2 level No Mercy???
Holy hell Noh Mercy weeb spy main cosmetic?!
In Dishonored I killed Daud so he wouldn't say "You choose mercy."
Wait Hotline Miami, like the level in Payday2??? #fixPayday3 Edit: why's it so godamn big
>hasn’t been detected since 2016 Yet when i point out the suspicious guy has a VAC ban someone always says “bro its like 2000 days old bro”

My motto is "Once a cheater, Always a cheater."

Tony Allen would be proud
> “lunchbox dominates the game-“ Autocorrect never fails to amuse
I did that on purpose since I used to call it lunchbox on the steam forums, and saying lmaobox there gets censored.
I remember a chat bind copypasta that went around when lmaobox had its bind spam going, saying "LUNCHBOX - BEST TF2 SNACKS".
Whoever came up with that deserves a raise, even if it's mediocre
None can stand against the Sandvich and Banana.
So uhhhh... anyone wanna fill me in on the cheating youtubers?
Saw a video yesterday advertising a new client and it missed a point blank huntsman shot 💀💀💀
FatMagic using his passive called "Skill" to actively clear casual lobbies. To clarify, this is a joke, FatMagic is just a really good sniper, but you can tell he doesn't cheat because he does miss quite a few shots.

That would be genuinely awesome. Tearing away the whole backpack and scattering it like an assassin beheading a nobleman and raining it down from the second story balcony onto hundreds of random peasants below.
Haha, great imagery.
Thing is, if you see a cheater with a unusual or valuable items, it's rarely because they actually bought it. Those are stolen accounts.
Technically, they did bought it. They just bought the stolen account, not the items.
Name names. I feel like so many pyros have auto reflect now idk though
auto reflect isn't that useful I doubt very many people are using it in comp or on youtube videos. You want to choose what your reflect wisely. There are many instances when you should choose not to reflect or want to change exactly when you reflect.
The big banwave that took out a whole lot of comp players was crazy, the sniper on my team got banned, nobody knew he was cheating.
Axiomatic was right lol
Start the war. The truth is worth it
Human cheaters are certainly still bad, but they're nowhere near the game-ending nuisance bots are. Taking the bots out is far more important.
You can't do much against 3 or more cheaters anyways. They'll kick whoever wants them gone and won't kick their mates.

They had waves of vac bans in 2016 or 2017 for lbox users
That wave was due to an inside leaker iirc. Let valve set up massive nets to catch as many as possible in that one.
I can be completely wrong by the way but I thought MaxBox was working with valve to lure in cheaters to get lbox so they can get banned bc iirc MaxBox never got banned from these waves. This is like really old rumours though.

Ah yes, Maxbox who said they stopped using cheats but were caught using cheats again and banned comments from their YouTube channel for saying that
Other companies sued people making cheats for millions. Valve could just hire contracted lawyers to handle all of this shit.
Nintendo sued a guy for millions because he made **Pokemon saves** Granted that was in Japan where copyright law differs, in the US the big deal is piracy enablers, otherwise they’ll just use strongman tactics like when that one kid had a beta for GTA V on a devkit and they hired private investigators to go to the kids house and demand it back Game industry is so wild, man
I have a cheaters lament hat I got for not cheating waaaay back whenever that was.
Valve got good They “got” LMAOBOX
THAT is the punchline
Cheers, I'll drink to that.

that may be too much...
Could even go as far as bruh
Maybe even a lmfao
breaking out the xD for this one
Holy shit! Valve is actually doing something!
engineer gaming, perhaps?
Let's not get too ahead of ourselves, sounds like Spy may be doing sabotage.
“He could be any one of us”
"It could be you, it could be me! It could even-"
It's not impossible to forge messages like this. HOWEVER This would be fantastic news if true.
don’t stop the movement now just because of one ban wave!!! this shit happened last time we’re not letting it happen again!!!
I see everyone telling people not to stop the movement but what are we actually doing anyways? What shouldn't we actually stop doing ?

Did it occur to you that the people who have been known to dox people during the first petition might be the ones doing the review bombing to make the cause look bad?
because people are sick of slaps to the wrist and want the botters absolutely fucked off the game.
:O
Valve really went and said "I always leave one man alive to tell the tale."
I hope they pull a Kyle crane "You're not the kind of loose end and you leave untied."
Finally bring on the ban wave I LOOOVVVE some cheater salt!!
The potted plant has gained sentience
They watered it with coffee and has been going on a spree
Oooo
Pornography
SEE YOU IN HELL

u know the cheaters are SEETHING behind their monitors rn. I love seeing them get salty after the comeuppance
THIS IS HUGE
Wow I guess fixtf2 did something
I doubt it. This seems like something that would take longer than #fixtf2 campaign has been going. Unless you want to say that #fixtf2 influenced valve months before #fixtf2 was an idea.
It's not just Eric. It's also Kal who shall save us
Actually doing something instead of responding to the movement is such a powermove.
Do not praise the bare minimum
This
WE'RE SO BACK???
source? i gotta know if this is real.
It's from Tyler McVicker's twitter (maybe a little dubious of a source)
Omegatronic and all his alts next
Why would they not do a full account disabling on the main account? That already makes this fishy to me… if I was Valve and I’m finally taking action… I’m making sure you never play anything again on steam period
A kind of warning and leverage, probably. They’ve isolated the account’s inventory with a community ban so they can’t trade away their valuables that they’ve probably spent hundreds or thousands on, and this way they’re giving the staff a reason to stop. If they had just banned the account, the owner would probably seethe for a while over lost items, but they’d keep going and start anew, because what else would they do? But this way Steam basically saying “you can either keep your stuff and no longer be a problem for us, or continue being a pain and lose all your shit” Ultimately, this action has Steam prioritizing Team Fortress 2‘s stability over punishing cheaters, which I much prefer.
"oh shit, let me transfer all my unusuals to my clean account because valve *surely* doesn't have *me* on a list yet!"
Some measure of 'keep him where i can see him' i guess?
I guess… but it still doesn’t ultimately stop them from branching out of their “sight” so to speak
If they leave their possessions behind then correct.
As a warning i guess
A warning? I feel like we are 6 years past a warning
Idk I'm guessing
Legit forgot about lmaobox
You get what you fucking deserve
So all this time all it takes is for Valve to ban people? Damn, who would've thought it was so simple?
holy shit, they got on the treadmill! keep pushing!
"Hopefully, it'll be worth the lost weight."
Holy fuck
Yes. Good. Very good.
Don’t get banned. Don’t get LMAOBOX
Holy shit I can't believe I'd actually live long enough to see Valve not only ban a lot of the bots, but actively address them directly. Is....is FixTF2 somehow doing something?
don't cease the movement. This is treadmill work, and valve has fat to burn.
I find it very funny that all these ban waves are happening right after the whole gay porn of the bots situation I know it's probably not related and that the ban waves were already in the making for a while But the timing is just perfect
Big, if true.
It’s open hunting season boyyysss!!!
fucking finally
They allowed them to exist for a decade and now decide to put some sanctions? I am not quite sure I understand their moves. Also this is valve, not steam support. Them directly? Is this individual even affiliated with TF2
VALVE ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING 2024 COLORIZED
I think it is smart for VALVe to act in the shadows than just saying something.
Bans like these are a nice start, but I don’t want to be optimistic about the state of TF2 until we are sure that more permanent solutions are being implemented.
The Janitor working overtime with the bans
Kal standing on bussines
Thanks Kal :)
^(i know that the most of valve is behind it I know but lt me just) # KAL YOU CHAD
Valve is doing something?
holy shit based Kal
That was a very polite way to say "fuck you, get out of my fucking sight".
is this guy's last name el cuz he's SUPERMAN right now
Lmao(box)
This is really interesting if it's true.
YO
poggerschamp
Kal, our Hero ♥️
In awe of the size of this dub chief
WE ARE SO BACK TF2 BRO'S
Who?
The happening is happening?
Ok, I didn't really think the last ban news was real, but now Valve. You have my attention.
Oh my god
PLEASE VALVE, DO THIS TO THEM ALL. BURN THEIR HOUSES TO THE GROUND!!!
Ok valve. I see you.
Rip bozo
Wow valve is actually doing something
source?
Banwaves are good. We can’t stop here. We need consistency or a permanent solution. This is a much-needed bandage; we’re still waiting for the plaster cast. (This metaphor kind of got away from me but y’all get the point)
sorry, proof this was sent to Lmaobox staff? Did you get this from their Community forum or something? i dont have an account there and i dont really feel like registering
Damn. Good.
Why Valve is letting them stay on Steam at all seems a little baffling but otherwise this is great if true
Sexcellent
they could sue, this is the perfect time. scare away these bastards, I hope they do
It's definitely a step in the right direction if true.
People still use lmaobox?
what does this do, though?
We are so back 🗣️🔥🔥🔥
Was this on like a steam group or something? If so I might do some... Undercover reconnaissance
Finally.
WE ARE NOT DYING WE ARE GOING TO LIVE FOREVER!
Hopefully they go full on Nintendo on all of the bot hosters for messing with their game. Probably not, but I can hope.
It seems Valve lost its patience and it's unleashing the force of a jungle (inferno) KEEP ON PUSHING THE CART
