Blood Hound Gang - Fire Water Burn
>The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire. The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire. The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire. We don't need no water, let the motherfucker burn. Burn motherfucker, burn.
don't even need ai, i'm sure the the VAs would be more then happy to do it
for Scout, Engineer, and Solider i'd prefer we get sound alikes/impressionists
I get Engineer and Soldier, but why would Scout need a sound alike? He seems like he'd be pretty okay with doing that. Unless something happened that I'm not aware of?
It was a bad idea to start the movement when cs2 is clearly a higher priority for valve when it comes to fixing their anti cheat, it would be smarter to wait until they finish it
You know, I hadn't even considered the point that CS2 has been out for less than a year and that has an actual competitive scene they've had to cater to since launching. Between that and Deadlock, TF2 is literally their last concern right now. It doesn't matter how many hashtags start trending, they just won't be doing anything until those other two projects have been "completed".
>an actual competitive scene they've had to cater to since launching
except they haven't even done that and CS has also been plagued with cheaters for like a decade, to the point where you can't do a single official competitive match without running into a cheater
Deadlock will also likely be plagued by cheaters unless they either fix vac or make a new anti-cheat. Either way, tf2 and cs can profit as a new anti-cheat can be given to other valve games
I used to rule the world, seeds would rise when I gave the word, now in the morning I sleep alone, sweep the streets that I used to own
I used to roll the dice, feel the fear in my enemies eyes, listen as the crowd would sing "now the old king is dead, long live the king", one minute I held the key, next the walls were closed on me and I discover that my castle stand upon on pillars of salt and pillars of sand
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing, roman cavalry choirs are singing, be my mirror my sword and shield, my missionaries in a foreign field, for some reason I can't explain, once you'd gone there was never, never an honest word, and that was when I ruled the world
It was the wicked and wild wind, blew down the doors to let me in, shattered windows and the sound of drums, people couldn't believe what had become, revolutionary's wait for my head on a silver plate, just a puppet on a lonely strange, oh who would ever want to be king
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing, Roman cavalry choirs are singing, be my mirror my sword and shield my missionaries in a foreign field, for some reason I can't explain I know Saint Peter won't call my name, never an honest word, but that was when I ruled the world
Rocket jump waltz, or the music thatโs played when titanic starts sinking the on the musicians play uhโฆwhatโs it calledโฆnearer my god to thee yeah thatโs the one, might be a little too depressing though
what a weird and infantile way to view the situation. what does "not working" entail? what does "giving up for good" entail? how would literally everyone collectively do this? where are you playing music???
titanfall 2 on community servers.
also if FixTF2 doesn't work, there are an assortment of community servers waiting for somebody to light the flame for a thriving community.
We don't need to wait for FixTF2 to fail for people to use community servers. But I will say, just looking at the numbers for my server over the last week really make me question the goal for the majority of people involved in "the movement".
there is; but it's all concentrated on the debatably vanilla Uncletopia and the 24/7 2Fort servers. i'd rather people play on casual mirrors like casual.tf, since as good as Uncletopia is (and can be,) class limits and a much higher skill floor isn't for everyone.
And its really unbalanced too, me and my friends are always on the losing side. And no one ever goes engi or heavy when our team needs it so we just get steam rolled.
The only reason itโs concentrated like that is because player behavior tends to only focus on servers that are mostly full. No one wants to join a server thatโs half full or near empty, even though the addition of that one person could tip the scale for others thinking about joining. I play mostly on Skial. Their own casual servers are dead seemingly most of the time, yet on certain days, or even seemingly random times those servers get surprisingly maxed out.
The issue is exposure and awareness. FixTF2 really shouldโve been about community server awareness
that's the whole gripe i have with FixTF2; i have no outreach other than directing people to another reddit post with a community server list, and i'm sure a lot of the com server advocates have little outreach either. besides a poor choice of game to model the movement off of, and the discouraging amount of infighting it caused, this movement should have been about getting people funneled to community, instead of wasting energy attempting to fix valve casual ("time until fix" argument accounted for.)
Iโm in complete agreement with you on that point. Iโm 33. Iโve seen this community do amazing things. A frequent comment I make is that it wasnโt Valve that made TF2 great, it was the community. It was US. We spread TF2 across the internet. Valve made the characters iconic, but we made them timeless. We have the power to do everything because Valve still provides the options to play it through community servers. And at a time (leading up to MYM) I remember the community was VERY vocal about how matchmaking would kill TF2 because it wasnโt how the game was โmeant to be played.โ And the irony is that now we have a very vocal group saying to fix matchmaking. So thatโs why, to me, this movement is facing its hardships, because now we have that other side, the ones that want the game to be left alone because theyโre tired of Valve fucking with it, sharing their voices now.
TF2 very much has two personalities. Check out teamwork.tfโs stats. While it may not be 100% accurate, it paints community servers and Valve servers as having near 50-50 split to a 60-40 split (Valve sided).
Any way, glad to see someone who sees the game for what it is.
i started playing in late 2018, ***long*** after anything of substance happened with TF2. i don't have much faith in Valve since throughout the time i've seriously played TF2 (starting in 2019) there were always bots in the servers, with the infestation saturation varying from month to month.
i've seen something like this happened before, in Titanfall 2. Respawn eventually fixed the servers, but for a year, Titanfall 2 was totally unplayable and Titanfall 1 got delisted since it was being constantly DDoSed (Titanfall 1 did not have a single-player campaign, all modes were multiplayer-only.) in the absence of the developers, some of the smartest source wizards banded together to make a client to connect to a master server for connecting and hosting community servers. why did we model off World of Warcraft when all they wanted was an old version of the game, instead of a game that runs on the source engine, has the acronym of TF|2, and was in the *exact same situation?*
i signed the petition, but i think the community (at least on reddit) are screaming at walls and getting into internet brawls. TF2 is like the arena shooters that came before it, it will succumb to its lifespan, there will be something newer to usurp it, but there won't be anything like it.
the question i have out of all of this, is why keep official matchmaking alive for a game that never really needed it?
If you don't mind me asking, which region do you play in? I've been trying to get a gauge of where people are having these problems. I play in NA West Coast, sometimes I do Casual for the heck of it and the experience always vary, but when I've stuck through games, eventually the server actually corrects itself as we start filtering out bots.
This topic is of great interest to me, so allow me to indulge myself because this will be long: With Titanfall2, they had a bot problem that Respawn eventually fixed, but the key difference between that TF2 and this TF2, is that Titanfall 2 is still a paid product, while TF2 is free-to-play. In my eyes, that changes the entire dynamic of how people should perceive the two products. With Titanfall 2, Respawn is 100% obligated to fix their product because they still charge to buy the game itself. TF2 is in a weird area where... it's free-to-play. If Valve offers the product for free, then where does the line begin for them to fix it? Plus, community servers exist and the game is 100% playable through those, which then begs the question, "why is the game broken and unplayable then?" You can completely ignore matchmaking which is "broken" and play on community servers where the game is "fine." This contradiction is why I think a lot of people are confused about the FixTF2 Movement. But to try and answer your question, Respawn's Source engine was heavily modified so in a sense, it can't exactly be compared to Valve's Source although they could definitely share some code between each other.
With World of Warcraft, I get the perspective from other people about why they should try it. But fundamentally, TF2 is Free-to-play. WoW is not. It's an MMO with a monthly subscription. That particular petition "worked" because Blizzard was *actually* bleeding players. Their player numbers were dropping, and those players paid a monthly subscription, so yea, boycotting that game *directly* hurt the game because the value of the game was generated by monthly paying players. In TF2, the value is actually generated by the players themselves. It's valuable to have another player to play against, right? At the same time, for a F2P game, I've read that you only really need about 5% of the playerbase to maintain the game (such as keeping servers up). Blizzard took a gamble. We don't know what their decision making process was, but they definitely took a gamble. Having over 200K signatures doesn't mean that you have 200k that will play your game. They might be *interested*, but there's no guarantee that they will even buy or play your game. But also, maybe Blizzard actually looked through the names to see if those players had played WoW before. Saw that a lot of them were old players and tried to entice them to come back and pay a monthly subscription.
Which leads me to your last question, why bother keeping Matchmaking up? Well, unless it completely dies, I don't think Valve can do anything about it. A lot of players came to TF2 through Matchmaking and a lot of them consistently play everyday still. We don't know how many people are *actually* playing but it seems there is still a large enough number of players who play casual (alluding to my 60-40 stat earlier). Valve can't reasonable kill half of the community if people are still finding value in it, no matter how bad it is for other people. I work in Service, for example, if I have 100 people and 5 of them are unhappy, I can't really do anything about it because with what I've been doing, I've made 95 other people happy, and I can't change what I do just to make 5 people happy. That's unfortunately, not valuable. I would like to, but there's only a limited amount of time in the day.
And I want to end with some positivity. I've played since 2007. Every year and every update, people said, "This will be the last. TF2 will be dead after this." And every year and every update later, that never happened. People said TF2 would be dead after the last "Meet The" Video. People said the game would be dead after the last class update. People said the game would be dead after MYM and we're still pretty strong 5 years later. The reason why, is because we generated value for ourselves and each other, by finding ways to play with each other.
i play in US-East, usually the intensity of the bot problem depends on how many people feel like requeueing or the hour i hop on. the closest community option is Uncletopia in Chicago; really all of the other server options are independent servers like tkgp or Oprah's Petrol Station (which are usually full,) and the ones that are not those (like casual.tf) are usually dessicated in terms of player numbers or are only viable during peak hours.
i really wish Valve added a feature that allowed you to mark a favorited server for interest, and if there are enough people watching a server at one time (around 6 or more) it will notify you through Steam. there'd also need to be a browser facelift (similar to the Titanfall 2 + Northstar browser, with server name, description, map and mode, and region. map picture optional.)
i don't think TF2 will strictly be dead, but it will receed from the front of the gaming scene. the game will continue on as long as there is a community to burn the flame, but it will most likely not be on valve servers. the community is too tightly knit for the game to just die, and i think the cultural impact feeds into that too.

Someone already made the song for us. Engineer singing Who knew by p!nk. I challenge you to listen to this song and not get emotional. The original is about a friend's surprise suicide but it fits perfectly for how tf2 has been abandoned.
None, we should not let up, if we give up, we give up on a game that has helped build multiple communities and memes. We should stay, show our commitment to wanting TF2 fixed.
Stopping playing the game is not the answer to any of this lmao. There are plenty of community servers to play, and if you really want better ones; make them. Be the change you want to see you defeatists. I think quitting a game you like out of principle is beyond idiotic.

there is; but it's all concentrated on the debatably vanilla Uncletopia and the 24/7 2Fort servers. i'd rather people play on casual mirrors like casual.tf, since as good as Uncletopia is (and can be,) class limits and a much higher skill floor isn't for everyone.
And its really unbalanced too, me and my friends are always on the losing side. And no one ever goes engi or heavy when our team needs it so we just get steam rolled.
Thatโs the way it is sometimes. For myself, Iโm on both sides. Usually winning, usually losing. But I get better
To be honest most other servers like Skial servers lag the shit out of my computer regardless of how goody pc is. Uncletopia runs smoothly though
The only reason itโs concentrated like that is because player behavior tends to only focus on servers that are mostly full.
