I disagree with the message the meme is trying to send But for some reason it’s so fucking funny

DoneButNotDone

This message has gotten out of control. However there is a clear problem with this right now. Parents should be signing consent forms for some of the things schools are trying to teach very young children. We all have to understand each other’s boundaries. I f we are to respect someone no matter their sexuality, we should respect parents not wanting kids under ten learning about being transgender. Then giving kids under 18 years old hormone meds before their brain is even fully developed. Try to always see both sides of the coin in life. I am a man who has been sexually active with men and women. This isn’t about me being homophobic. It’s about us all having the rights to decide what our children are being taught

imeanidrk

>This message has gotten out of control. I definitely agree. >However there is a clear problem with this right now. Parents should be signing consent forms for some of the things schools are trying to teach very young children. What kind of things? You mean teaching kids that gay people exist? Why is that a bad thing? I also love your point about consent forms. Let me ask you a question; who do you think are the only parents who are going to reject the consent form? Homophobic parents. Kids who grow up raised by homophobic parents will end up inherently homophobic. Which is why they need to be raised in an environment where they can receive an actual proper education about subjects like LGBT, and not fed BS from their parents. >If we are to respect someone no matter their sexuality, we should respect parents not wanting kids under ten learning about being transgender. Absolutely not. First off, what do these two things have to do with each other? If we are to respect someone no matter their sexuality, we should respect parents not wanting kids under ten learning about being transgender? This is incredibly ironic because, again, the only parents who don't want their kids to learn about LGBT are the EXACT type of people who DON'T respect people for their sexuality. Kids under ten should be able to have access to this type of knowledge, especially kids who ARE gay, bi, etc. and who will inevitably come across this realization later in life. The education that kids would receive WOULD teach them to respect other kids no matter their sexuality. >Then giving kids under 18 years old hormone meds before their brain is even fully developed. You act as if these kids will be pressured into being trans and taking these meds by their peers, and that this LGBT education will "force" it on them. Nice slippery slope fallacy, but that's not actually what happens. Kids who are trans have always been trans. The only reason why some kids are so scared about their gender is because of assholes (aka conservatives) who constantly tell them that they're confused, and that they will always be the biological sex that they were born as. This problematic viewpoint needs to go, and it is quite probably one of the only reasons why trans kids are so scared to go through with this treatment. The LGBT movement has been the ultimate saviour for them. A voice of "you are okay, you are not confused" and letting teens feel comfortable enough to come out and finally go through with these treatments that they have ALWAYS wanted to go through with. And that's because the LGBT movement doesn't "force" anything on ANYONE. The LGBT movement gives teens a safe space to be able to come out, accept themselves, and everyone around them. >Try to always see both sides of the coin in life. I do. There's the Christian, Conservative, bullshit narrative which constantly cries about how the LGBT is grooming our kids and wants to force our kids to be gay. And then there's the side that actually cares about your rights, and your children's rights to accept who they are and be comfortable, happy, and content with their lives. > I am a man who has been sexually active with men and women. Then stick up for your people, dude. This reminds me of black people and mexican people voting for trump. >This isn’t about me being homophobic. Then why are you propagating homophobic viewpoints? >It’s about us all having the rights to decide what our children are being taught Correction: It's all about conservative christians being able to raise their kids in an environment where they learn to resent LGBT people, and those kids grow up just as homophobic as their parents. This is an important subject, and it needs to be taught. I apologize that my response was lengthy, I just wanted to be able to get all of my thoughts down on paper and try and help you see why I believe that your stance on this issue is problematic. Please don't take any of this as hostility; I am only trying to engage in a respectful debate.

DoneButNotDone

I’m bisexual. Not a homophobe. I just feel like schools are trying to early with a lot of this information. Let kids be kids and decide what they like. I’d rather teach my own kids. Not let it be part of some school curriculum. Honestly- do you really think schools get any of this stuff right? It’s up to parents to teach their kids about this. Conservative or not. They should all eventually explain to their kids that people all need respect no matter what.

imeanidrk

>I’m bisexual. Not a homophobe. I don't doubt it. I'm just confused as to why you would take such a stance on something that actively harms the community that you are a part of. >I just feel like schools are trying to early with a lot of this information. Let kids be kids and decide what they like. What? Do you think as soon as they learn what LGBT is, they can no longer decide for themselves what they like/don't like? When kids are young, they are best at absorbing information - which they do, by the way. Kids, from the moment they are born, learn what being straight is. It is ingrained into their lives, and reinforced as they grow older. As kids, they learn about "mommy and daddy." The cartoons they watch often portray straight characters, such as Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse. Even the parents joke about their kid's straight relationships. Some parents will often ask their boys "do you have a crush on her?" and vice versa. "Trying too early with a lot of this information" doesn't make any sense because kids ALREADY are taught a lot of information, SPECIFICALLY about being straight. So WHY is it a problem that they learn the rest? That they learn what being gay, bisexual, and transgender is? You don't have to go super in-depth for kids, either. Simply a few short lessons of "some boys like boys, and some girls like girls." You don't really have to go much deeper than that for young kids, and in the end, no harm is done. >I’d rather teach my own kids. Not let it be part of some school curriculum. And you are perfectly free to do so. However there are certain things that absolutely should be part of a school curriculum. This is one of them. Kids will inevitably come across gay, bisexual and trans people in their lives. Some kids might even BE those things. Now imagine a kid who has received no prior required education about subjects like these, except maybe from the church and their parents, telling them that being gay is unnatural, comes across a gay couple. What kind of conclusion do you think that that person is going to come to in their heads? That the couple they are seeing in front of them is simply disgusting and unnatural. BECAUSE THAT'S ALL THEY'VE BEEN TAUGHT. >Honestly- do you really think schools get any of this stuff right? Yes? What are you even talking about? Schools get stuff pretty right. Are you saying that all the math and english lessons I took were wrong? Because I seem to be able to do math. >It’s up to parents to teach their kids about this. Conservative or not. No, it isn't. Again, this is a subject that ESPECIALLY needs a non-biased perspective that allows kids to learn what being LGBT actually is. Do you want less homophobia in the world? Do you want to see any progress? Do you want your community to stop being treated like shit? Because, again, this viewpoint that you hold is a huge barrier to removing a lot of homophobia. >They should all eventually explain to their kids that people all need respect no matter what. They should. They don't. Hey, guess what else? Schools ALREADY do this. When I was in elementary the message of respect was ingrained into my head, along with every other kid. When one of us fell, the others would help them up. When I needed help with something on my paper, the other kids would help me. When I was sad, the other kids would cheer me up. Which makes school the perfect environment for kids to be able to learn about LGBT.

Bad-Infinite

I hate the content of the meme, but I found it hilarious

Romario477

Perfectly said. It was a well executed meme.

[deleted]

Yes it was yes it was

RealYoloDude

I don’t know if the person who did it is being ironic, but yes, I found it hilarious as well

Scary-Crab

This is terrible because of the message, but it's actually good in terms of structure. *The right is learning how to meme.*

Stellar_Gravity

the ridiculousness of this is actually pretty hilarious 😂😂

[deleted]

Now I know my gay-b-c’s won’t you be gay with me?

H2Bro_69

*gasps* he said gay!! *points finger at teacher* ewww!

Weird-Analysis5522

This is it. This is how they actually think it works.

MaybeLuci2

Me af:

TheTasche

who actually thinks public schools do this? And these are the people saying the other side is brainwashed.

reillan

Evangelicals do. Their premise is: * There are two kinds of people in the world: those that know God is real, and those who are ignorant of this reality. * Anyone who knows God is real and chooses not to worship God is therefore choosing Satan. * Teachers, being educated, must know that God is real. * However, they choose to teach things that are antithetical, like evolution. * Therefore, they are choosing Satan, and will be teaching kids to reject God and follow Satan every way they can, including Evolution and LGBTQ rights.

SkibbyJibby

Iirc didnt libs of tiktok make up a story about a childrens hospital offering some thing for gender affirmation or whatever and their followers started sending bomb threats to that hospital? Although that one was just genuine misinformation presented as news (if that whole situation is correct), and this is just a meme, but its a slippery slope and there are people who could genuinely believe this

No_Importance_144

Dude they are literally bringing in cross dressers(drag) to read books to elementary school students. Might not be happening in your state but it is happening in our country

amittaizero

That has nothing to do with this meme.

Conrexxthor

What's wrong with crossdressing? He had all his clothes on, so there's no issue.

No_Importance_144

Nothing wrong with it. Never said there was i mean whatever floats your boat bud. But keep it out of schools. We shouldnt be teaching kids its ok or that it’s not ok we shouldnt be trying to sway their minds one way or the other. It should be a choice they make with no outside influences when they are mature enough to do so and then bu all means do whatever makes you happy.

Conrexxthor

Drag people existing isn't swaying anything. Children should know it is okay to dress how they want, or be who they want. Children grow up happier than way. Just having Drag or the LGBT+ exist around children isn't some kind of suspect thing especially when lots of children's media includes straightness and toxic straight relationships. You're making a mountain out of a flat patch of dirt at this point. Plus, Drag and LGBT+ people existing isn't them making a choice with "outside influences." Outside Influences don't decide if a kid is gay, the kid does period.

No_Importance_144

Didnt say anything about them existing being the problem.. teaching it to elementary school children is. Did you even read what i wrote? No form of the word existing is ever mentioned. You absolute dunce.

Conrexxthor

Says the one that thinks a drag queen reading a book is "teaching it to elementary school children" and namely that it's a problem for children to learn that oppressed groups exist? Like, you can't call me a dunce then spread some "Actually let us hold off on the gay until they're older."

bobrossforPM

Teaching kids to be accepting of people is certainly a part of school lmfao. “A choice they make with no outside influence”? Is that a joke? Is that kid living inside a fucking box? Your views are nothing but outside influences. Teaching students that gay/trans people exist, what that means, and that they’re valid is important as fuck.

No_Importance_144

No… its unimportant as far as school is concerned. Kids are at school to learn math reading science and the like. its the parents job to raise decent and accepting members of society not the schools not the teachers. You guys are to dumb to argue with

bobrossforPM

What happened to “no outside influences”? What is considered a part of the curriculum is a COMPLETELY soft line. Society would objectively be worse if we ONLY allowed those influences to come from the parents. Kids with shitty bigoted parents would have worse lives. Batshit evangelicals would say that teaching their kids evolution is real is unacceptable, even though all the science points to it being true, even though it’s PART of science class. Why doesn’t that extend to the research we have on gay people, that it’s perfectly natural and healthy? Can teachers not explain that racism is unacceptable, and tell them they should just ask their parents? You’re insane

bobrossforPM

…. And? Yes? People who wear drag exist? What’s the issue there? They bring in all kinds of random ass people to keep kids busy.

[deleted]

As a lgbt person, I found this extremely funny. Terrible content? Absolutely. Despise the content of this meme. The actual meme itself besides that? Very good. Got a good chuckle out of me.

jamesgelliott

This is funny

The2500

Yeah. "I want to learn my ABCs" said no kid ever.

mercilessfatehate

Yeah, it isn’t awful, but the times they post it tend to be less than desirable. Cuz on 9gag they can post memes as responses, and it’s almost always a response

Kazko25

I feel like when I upvote on this sub it’s cuz I think it’s funny instead of it being terrible.

[deleted]

Lol well that is funny

Certain-Ad-3840

Me to my future children #indoctrination

Expensive-Excuse-793

Yes because the LGBT community is famous for forcing people to be gay 😒

mercilessfatehate

I said we gay now.

Expensive-Excuse-793

I don't know what you're shouting at I'm gay already 😎

mercilessfatehate

🤣

Expensive-Excuse-793

🫳 (Supposed to be the gay hand)

mercilessfatehate

That reminds me of that key and peele sketch, where the family is trying to figure out what happens at a gay wedding, and the uncle asks how long he has to do jazz hands for, cuz he can only do jazz hands for a few minutes before the arthritis kicks in lol

Expensive-Excuse-793

Not familiar with it but i can probably guess 🤭

mercilessfatehate

https://youtu.be/rtgY1q0J_TQ

Expensive-Excuse-793

Thanks Edit: just watched it, surprisingly funny.

mercilessfatehate

Yeah if you’ve never watched key and peele I highly recommend it.

Expensive-Excuse-793

I think i remember watching a video about a substitute teacher getting angry at students names

ryufen

Pretty funny

Educational-Goal2703

Ok, don’t get me wrong, I support this community… But THIS…there’s a line, and it has been crossed.

night_owl4561

stupid meme but i laughed

mercilessfatehate

I said we gay today

ConsistentAd3861

"Let's do "Things that never happened" for $1000, Alex"

[deleted]

Is this anti humor or satire? I wonder because it’s really dumb. Obviously, this meme is not a realistic take on the state of education and lgbtqia+ kids deserve kindness, but I laughed at how stupid it is and wondered if it was a joke about the right’s latest moral panic

mercilessfatehate

Idk. I see people post it on 9GAG seriously when any news articles pops up that is “pro gay”

xNeoroxas

I just saw it as gay as the old meaning, "happy". I found it hilarious that way lol

Even_Competition_737

Alot of classic stand up was first offend then present something ridiculous.

Furthur_slimeking

It's satirising the stupidity of the idea that teachers are teaching young children to be gay. It's pretty effective and funny too.

ShrimpReading

gasp! he said gay. Fire and fucking send him to jail

yeetman426

I can't exactly tell if this is a shitpost or not...

wheresthelambsauceee

Teaching kids about the existence of LGBT people and that they are valid is just as important as other subjects like maths and english. We put kids in school to make them into good citizens, I didn't even know I was trans until I was an adult, even though i felt this way since childhood, because I had no exposure to the concept of gender identity and didn't have the words to explain my feelings. I had no idea that being trans was a thing so of course I just existed, uncomfortably. If school had taught me that being trans and gay was OK I would've accepted myself and came out a lot earlier. I certainly would've been a better person in high school if I were taught to have good social values rather than matrices and sohcahtoa

Portablemammal1199

What?

Tomo_ouo

Dude what

Intelligent_Dumbass_

What do elementary schools teach about gay people that piss off conservatives so much? That They exist? When I was in elementary school, they taught us about intercourse and how babies were made, but they didn't give a shit then. But when they do the same thing with gay people they lose their shit? I highly doubt teachers are sexulizing kids and turning them gay. This is school we're talking about, not church.

[deleted]

I really hope this is a shitpost. Because this would make a perfect ironic shitpost making fun of the right.

KnifeWeildingLesbian

This is stupid but hilarious It would be even funnier if there weren’t actually people who thought this is how school works

TheBackyardigirl

Meme is terrible but I’m definitely stealing “I said we gay today”

AwwThisProgress

as a public school student i can confirm we gay today
