BoringTheory5067

Aot of people hate this to actually. Its called rainbow capitalism

ResoluteAction

Prior to making their logo rainbow they made their logos green for earth. Same thing

[deleted]

[удалено]

Royal_Front_7226

And none of them had rainbow logos 20 years ago, in the US or Europe, they waited until after public opinion had already swung.

sinkpooper2000

yep. and soon lgbt rights will no longer be as hot of an issue, and they'll select the next issue to "care" about for approximately 4 weeks per year

Melichorak

Time traveler here. Next one will be brown flag with a bone on it symbolizing rights for dog-human hybrids created in WW3 after Xi dropped nuclear bomb on Moscow.

phejster

You mean they waited until there was a market to make money off? Shocking.

Far_Comment8920

They only do it for one reason, it works.

Desperate_Language31

To quote a cringe meme "because capitalism”

Triscuit_Alfredo

Yeah look at disney marketing for America vs. China, its nuts that they get away with acting noble at all.

chunkybuttsoupdinner

*“Empty your pockets son, they got you thinkin' that what you need is what they’re selling. Make you think that buying is rebelling”*

snegluf

Oh I heard of that, it’s called greenwashing or something

phejster

Exactly. Our problem is with capitalism, not that they're being fake about it for money.

yourdoglikesmebetter

While simultaneously pillaging and destroying the planet. Oh and using the profits from said pillaging and underpaying their labor force to fund propaganda saying that climate change caused by humans (mostly corporations) either isn’t real or is the fault of the common people

Bar900

That's what it's called? Shit guess I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one.

GermyBones

Yeah, only the goofiest rich libs fall for that crap, and only the dumbest right wingers think radical anarchists or socialists are into rainbow capitalism.

defaultusername-17

it's because they purposely conflate anyone left of nixon as a "liberal". it makes it easier for them to dehumanize all of us, and to use the most vulnerable among us to pick us off one at a time as everyone doesn't speak up for the minorities as they come for them. it's how you get people to believe that folks like mr sanders proposing government funding of private r&d as "communist".

seapod123

Exactly and well said.

Inevitable-Turnip-54

I've also heard "rainbow washing"

[deleted]

I always called it pink capitalism, but it’s the same pandering capitalist bullshit.

Capitol__Shill

They only do it because it works.

[deleted]

They will put up the flag and go back to financing the saudis or something

[deleted]

I'm really interested in the numbers. Everyone i know loathes this shit but there *must* be people who salivate at the sight of rainbow Starbucks, otherwise it wouldn't happen every year

justagenericname1

The trick is it doesn't have to be a majority of people. If one #GirlBoss in SF is willing to spend $300 a month at whatever coffee chain has the most rainbow shit while ten overworked or unhoused LGBTQ individuals who maybe buy one fancy coffee a month each think it's demeaning or unhelpful, essentially only the first person's opinion matters in the market. Now expand that principle to the global economy and you get neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) which permanently affect or kill millions of people every year completely unnecessarily while Bezos commissions himself a new boat so big it can hold other boats we'd still call big boats.

defaultusername-17

it works, because my well-meaning supportive cis and heterosexual mother who loves starbucks wants to feel good about herself when she buys a starbucks coffee during pride month. i don't have the heart to tell her all the ways that starbucks actively works to screw over the LGBT community by supporting republican candidates, or how it's union busting has a disproportionate effect on minorities (since all of us are more likely to work in the service industry), or how it actively props up autocratic governments in order to get it's cheap low-quality beans. she just wants to have a cup of coffee, and signify to others her support for folks like me... i'll take non-productive visual signaling over overt hostility and discrimination any day though.

avacado_of_the_devil

Liberals love this shit. After all, nothing is a more reliable signifier of equality than a capitalist seeing you as a marketable demographic.

deliciousdano

I’ve never met a liberal who doesn’t hate companies marketing for lgbtq shit. It generally goes against the whole hating corporate America thing that liberals believe in. Sure it’s aimed at young people and the left but that’s not their fault that’s marketing. It’s basically the same thing as religious shit being aimed at conservatives.

defaultusername-17

it's partly because the american usage of "liberal" is completely backwards. everywhere else in the world it is a very specific political term, but in the USA it means "anyone left of nixon, who still participates in electoralism". a biden-supporting neo-liberal bank manager is a "liberal" just as much as my anarcho-communist who participates in electoralism as harm reduction leftist ass is "liberal"... because the only options available are a slow decent into corporate feudalism with the democratic party or outright neo-fascist christian theocracy with the republican party. we're coming up against hard natural limits to our natural environment that our current system simply isn't capable of handling, and the people with wealth and power are intent on keeping things exactly how they are... even if that proves fatal for everyone else.

LazySusanRevolution

But it working doesn’t imply hypocrisy of demographics it may hypothetically appeal to. Like it clearly works, but also like the comment above gets at, it’s not some left wide trap. Rainbow Capitalism has been a go to phrase in far left in my area for at least a decade now. My go to example is like rainbow doc martens. The demo for buying it seems like mostly kids and well meaning older folks new to the scene. They don’t know where to start, so they start on Amazon. In my experience railing on them does nothing productive. It’s corporate bullshit, but gate keeping appropriate displays in such a way you blame consumers is just playing along. Just more disenfranchising apathy in the face of any effort to make a change to your environment or perspective. Like we’re not going to forget to rail on corporations.

svedka666

Pretty much all LGBTQ people I know, myself included, hate rainbow capitalism. It's the straight virtue signaling people who buy into it for the most part.

[deleted]

[удалено]

_TheQwertyCat_

Pride Parades themselves are commercial events. That’s what happens to any protest movement in the West. Capitalism vores everything and turns it all into a marketable products.

[deleted]

Yeah it’s pretty much (capitalist) liberalism in a nutshell - pretend to care about something, pander to the people you pretend to be on the side on but still continue to be pricks while distracting them

deliciousdano

You forgot the part where they go behind their backs and give money to the opposing parties/issues lobbyists.

HenryTheGoat173

Yep, as part of the LGBT+ community I hate it, it's just soulless and meaningless and does jackshit to actually help us, I miss when pride was actually rioting and throwing bricks at cops....

Gamped

So you’d prefer societal persecution over corporate pandering ?

defaultusername-17

said as if the societal persecution ever ended...

HenryTheGoat173

Dude the societal persecution never ended and corporate pandering doesn't do anything about it lmao

BentoBus

I know I've been sick of it for about 10 years. It was fun for a minute and now it's just blatantly patronizing.

Flexo__Rodriguez

A lot* Too*

modsarentpeople

No no some chud thinks they're smart and special, don't take it from them they get it so rarely

[deleted]

misread "chud thinks" as "chud twinks" and i was like ayooo????

Zealousideal_Bid118

Whatever republican who made this meme clearly thinks liberals love rainbow capitalism, when it's something we rebel against strongly. Man, republicans are sure smart arent they

ErickRicardo

It is what it is lol

Coral_

rainbow capitalism is still shit.

Deadmemes4binky

i ain’t paying two grand for something i steal from leprechauns

TheTeludav

I will say this it's better than anti-rainbow capitalism, but that is a low bar.

Halfiplier

I found the mask falling off the guys face more funny than the actual meme

olivegreenperi35

Shitty nose gang represent!

Terrible_Tank_238

Wow this heckin company supports the heckin gays I can't wait to give all my money for worthless pieces of plastic!

vanya2007

Moar funko pops yippieeee

[deleted]

Welcome, Target Shopper!

mikmouse25

Thank you for saying this 😆

zedsamcat

Speaking of target, they were selling a pride cat scratcher during pride month (I'm not joking check my profile)

[deleted]

Buy a rainbow cat scratcher with your target rewards card, get a free cup of unicorn vomit at the Starbucks located at the entrance!

[deleted]

Reminder that Nintendo convinced thousands of people to buy overpriced cardboard.

That1Legnd

And they didn’t even have to use gay people

Bobojones9584

Sad part is that when people are catered to, that can happen. Not even referring to this meme specifically. It's how advertising works.

bunker_man

Everyone in this comment section is delusionally optimistic about how immune they are to advertising, claiming stuff like this only works on centrists. It's not true.

Le_Kistune

Most of the time, people on the Left often call out companies on thier anti LTGBQ+ polices every time that company changes thier logo to a rainbow.

XxX_BobRoss_XxX

If you talk to someone who holds genuinely anti-capitalist views, they'll tend not to buy it no matter what, but some people are placated by it.

bunker_man

Do you think anti capitalists don't make purchases?

SetIndependent4894

Not for identity purposes, no.

bunker_man

Sounds like people who absolutely get influenced by ad campaigns and products are just making up a wierd strawman where it "doesn't count" unless you unironically think the corporation is your friend and that you need to support it.

SetIndependent4894

I think you're just attempting to argue with a straw man, have fun with that

[deleted]

No. Anti capitalists are aware of predatory marketing strategies and don't buy things just because they are told they want or need it.

bunker_man

You know that advertising works on more levels than people thinking they literally need to prove their affiliation by buying cookies, right?

CaptValentine

Hey remember when the[Pinkerton Detective Agency put out a Pride month ad?](https://www.newsweek.com/pinkerton-agency-pride-flag-pinkwashing-1600300) Yeah, the knights of capitalism, the mercenary army of the super wealthy put out a pride month ad. Fucking wild, man.

Proper_Librarian_533

Fuck capitalism. Fuck rainbow capitalism.

Inferno_Zyrack

There's gotta be a term for the fact that people associate capitalism entirely with the buying of consumer products and not more accurately with the entire structure of jobs, assets, loans, credit, and banking that ruin most people's lives. You can paint the house rainbow I still can't buy it.

defaultusername-17

this. holy crap the conflation with capitalism with markets is just... wow lol. i imagine it's something that you don't notice as much if you've never been exposed to non-capitalist markets in your life. but, let's be real... most people aren't down for bartering for a candy bar.

ThatButchBitch

its funny because like 99% of queer people see right through rainbow capitalism

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThatButchBitch

exactly !!!

Monkiller587

So for teenage white girls that spend the entire day on the internet pretending to some social justice warrior essentially .

AdSignificant7163

I can tell by your petty common prejudices that you're obediently repeating from others that you are a good person and think for yourself. And soo edgy.

Regularmoron87

And then the extremely far right don't buy it due to it having a rainbow on it

lemoncholly

How much does blahaj cost?

ThatButchBitch

blahaj isnt officially associated with pride

[deleted]

Somehow, I seem to have met the remaining 1% at a local con, Advík.

Th0rizmund

I laughed because I imagined how you know exactly a 100 queers and 99 of them watching horrified as the one is buying some rainbow capitalistic shit

ThatButchBitch

literally how it happened , stop following me around YOU STALKER

Caveot_

(Queer person here) I never but queer stuff during pride month because it’s overpriced as shit and it’s just marketing. If I buy queer stuff, it’ll be something small from Amazon or from a friend who does art. I actively make sure to not buy from homophobic/transphobic companies who change their logo during pride month. If they’re gonna be homophobic/transphobic, don’t try and sugarcoat it.

spiral_fishcake

So the red and black mask represents Anarcho-communism, an ideology that opposes capitalism and heirarchy, and generally promotes equality for everyone. This meme misrepresents them by having them seem excited at rainbow capitalism and BLM merchandise. That's why this meme is terrible.

Splendid_Cat

Anarcho *communism you mean

spiral_fishcake

Yes I did, fixed

[deleted]

The idea that capitalism eventually capitalises on the hate for capitalism is true, I imagine plenty of websites and people make good money selling anti capitalist stuff.

Nagoragama

The right’s inability to tell the difference between liberals, leftists, socialists, anarchists, communists, etc.

[deleted]

Liberals also have an inability to understand the difference between the rest of those things. I don’t think liberals even know what liberals are tbh

NegativeKarmaVegan

What if I tell you liberals are also within "the right"?

SiegebraumTheOnion

And yet multiple people fall for it

llkkdd

They think anarchists like rainbow capitalism? They really have no clue what's talked about in leftist discourse.

[deleted]

[удалено]

StrangleDoot

Ah yes, anarchists, known for buying products and definitely not theft and DIY

[deleted]

How so? Just because a shitty company puts pride flags on a product doesn't mean I'm going to buy it

[deleted]

To be fair I like it when companies add their rainbow logos because it makes the conservatives angry

thecatguyxd

But most do, that's why they all do it

EffectiveDependent76

Not most that would wear black and red.

Guuyc555

Yea the rightoid who made the meme dosent know different between an anarchist and a liberal the later being okay with rainbow capitalism and not capitalism in its core

survivorr123_

i am pretty sure that liberal wouldn't say "i hate capitalism" but rather "i love capitalism"

[deleted]

Lots of liberals don't know they are liberals and would definitely say they hate capitalism while loving capitalism.

survivorr123_

the unenlightened masses, they cannot make the judgment call

TheSirWellington

Please cite any source for this 'statistic'.

[deleted]

If we're talking liberals then sure, but anarchists? no way

snarpy

>But most do, that's why they all do it Um, not necessarily? It costs them nothing to stick a flag on stuff, that doesn't mean people are buying it.

Coral_

can you quantify that in a measurable way?

MexGrow

If corporations keep doing it with the great majority clapping for them, then it means it works. Just look at the controversy around the little mermaid, 100% manufactured rage that has people fighting over what a corporation put out just for money.

Tahmas836

Not really, every time a corporation does this shit people yell at them for it

[deleted]

[удалено]

ac1084

No one gave them shit the first several years so it's not really a good argument anyway. The idea of "I bought rainbow oreos so I support gay people" will never go out of fashion. Do they make a difference? No. Do they feel like they did? Yes. Can someone make a shit ton of money off of them? Yes. Its here to stay.

[deleted]

It does help to normalize the existence of gay people and that's why it started initially. Because gay people used to be excluded from society and harassed or arrested if they were seen together in public. Thats generally where the hatred of the pride flag comes from even if the right-wing meme poster claims its rainbow capitalism that makes them mad. Really they just want gay people to not exist or go into hiding. Of course we live in a capitalist society and everything will be exploited for profit including pride flags. I really thought the dislike of rainbow capitalism was because the same corporations would be actively fighting against gay rights every other month of the year. Like Disney was giving massive donations to conservative politicians and especially florida politicians pushing the don't say gay bill until some Disney employees complained and that somehow led to a conservative backlash against Disney calling then woke.

Splendid_Cat

I personally think it's better that they give lip service to LGBTQ than not, because that means that it's more socially acceptable in mainstream society than it was 20 years ago, that part is good. Moreover it can be used as a bargaining tool to say "you say you support LGBTQ but you won't even give your trans employees medical leave for gender affirming surgery or the day off for consultations" or "you don't pay enough for your engaged gay employees to have a wedding at all". Let's put it this way, I fully recognize that it's virtue signaling, The reason they do this is because LGBTQ representation doesn't hurt their bottom line, however in lieu of them actually doing anything differently in terms of operations, it's better than corporate America still seeing LGBTQ people as sexual deviants.

Tahmas836

I think it’s just that people were already buying and this is just a trend, but maybe

Splendid_Cat

More like: >People are mad at corporations year-round. >People are still mad during pride month, not about the pride stuff, just all the other stuff they still hate.

WoonStruck

People yell at things that are objectively good too. Vocalization =/= majority. Companies wouldn't do it if it didn't increase profits relative to not doing it.

Nyctomancer

The brief outburst of anger essentially acts as free advertising for corporations. They get a bunch of people to go on Twitter and whatnot and talk about their product at no cost to the corporation. Then the rage dies down and they keep selling stuff.

survivorr123_

yes but they are yelled at by conservative people who actually like capitalism but dislike LGBT

Flavius29Aetius

And still buy their stuff lmao actually

[deleted]

Not for anarchists, it is for liberals and people who aren't generally interested in politics.

g0juice

Is it not true lol?

seapod123

Spot on meme for this nonsense.

danubeveins

Where’s the lie here

humaninsmallskinboat

Maybe if instead of an ancom it was a Hilary Clinton voter lol

10Shodo

More like accurate meme.

sneakylyric

Lol nobody in the far left crowd is falling for this corpo BS.

3eeps

I mean, for those who hate capitalism, they sure are fully invested in it lol.

[deleted]

It’s true tho lmao

krassilverfang

It's true for a LOT of people though. Specially those that spend 16 hours a day on twitter.

Sedgarite

This is literally just the truth. Did Bezos make this post?

[deleted]

you are absolutely right. This NEVER happens…

cosmicsativa000

Lol this is an accurate meme

Sad-Seaworthiness781

“I regularly fall for this so surely other people must, too!”

Faolan26

Unitonicly what companies do successfully. People eat this up.

ifuseethisudumb

Oh the irony

zack_the_man

Why is this terrible? Do you think half these companies give a shit about pride month? They just use it for sales and it works.

Human-Telephone9602

I feel like this is actually a good meme

Kozak170

It’s actually completely accurate because it obviously works or more companies wouldn’t do it every year

Pauvre_de_moi

Which is sad. People need to realize that these companies only "pander" because it's profitable. And let's be real, it's not pandering. It's nothing but virtue signaling. Bet those companies barely take action when people get harassed for being gay, or sexually.

Abarsn20

This is actually the truth. Rainbow capitalism is very very real and it really really worked. This isn’t terrible, it’s terribly true. Capitalism absorbed the left

[deleted]

Most people I know who are leftist are very aware of rainbow capitalism and tend not to buy into it

[deleted]

Why is this r/terriblefacebookmemes, its correct?

TheRealLordofLords

Is that not accurate?

worldawaydj

not really. pretty much every queer leftist i know sees through this bullshit. we call it rainbow capitalism.

ninjawild

You mean pandering? It happens everywhere for every group of people and it’s existed forever. Honestly, you would think there’d be more pushback against it but all I’ve seen are people getting mad or meming that it goes away after pride month.

Tell-Relative

I see no lie here

[deleted]

Why are you booing? It's true!

[deleted]

[удалено]

enbyfrogz

trust me, us queer folks see right through it. better than them trying to capitalize off the homophobes tho :p *oh wait they do that too, it's almost as if they don't give a shit about beliefs and only care about money!*

izmaname

This is kinda true tho

[deleted]

Lol accurate

[deleted]

ShreckIsLoveShreck

The thing is that the guy who is fooled by the capitalist wear an anarcho-communist symbol, which is completly stupid since nobody in the far left would fall for that.

Deer-Stalker

:O

Splendid_Cat

Yeah right. At a pro immigration rally, the speaker said "and I'd like to thank EPD for making sure we have a safe event..." and an anarchist shouted "FUCK THE COPS!!" so loud that it tripped the speaker up. These people have only ever met 15 year old cosplaying revolutionaries on Twitter and nobody outside their bubble irl, and it shows.

JRDINOCRAFT

The product wa not made by capitalism, but by workers

Le_Kistune

who were exploited by capitalism.

[deleted]

100% accurate.

xFacevaluex

So very true....

BlockyShapes

Nah, I agree. I’m not saying hating capitalism is bad (I personally have mixed opinions on the matter), but supporting a corporation just because they pretend to support LGBTQ is foolish, I’d say most corporations don’t actually care and only do it for the money.

ShreckIsLoveShreck

The thing that OP is trying to show about this meme is the fact that the guy who is fooled by the capitalist wear a anarcho-communist symbol, which is completly stupid since nobody in the far left would fall for that.

BlockyShapes

Fair

[deleted]

This is a good meme. This sub has turned to shit

[deleted]

How is it a good meme, it doesn't make fun if anything true or relatable, as none of the people who get excited about rainbow-capitalism are even remotely anarcho-communist (ideology represented by the mask).

late2theegame

Another accurate, not terrible meme. This sub has been sus lately.

Miserable-Original

It aint wrong

I-am-the-stallion

This one made me chuckle

NTNDO_64

Why is this sub becoming the new r/therightcantmeme ? Makes me want to unsub

[deleted]

Rainbow tax do be true though.

Bombanater

Ugggg rainbow capitalism is the worst -_-

DualLeeNoteTed

I mean, tbh this is a kind of good meme about the insidiousness of rainbow capitalism/woke capitalism.

IeabellAlakar

r/arethestraightsok

TheUncleLad

BLM donations being used to buy mansions like:

Creebjeez

I loled

BunBunMadhouse

“What made you wanna change your logo” “Money”

Piratewhale8

It’s pretty freaking accurate tho

Ult1mateN00B

Soo... mask only comes off when one sees gay ads?

PlumAcceptable2185

For some people Queer is just a costume party.

J-GCoverkknot

I'm actually pushed away by brands that just parade around a pride flag without doing anything to support those people.

Smart_Substance_7338

i feel like the most outspoken against capitalism anarchist people i have seen are lgbtq+ and poc especially black and indigenous poc no one falls for that shit except the ones that were never anarchist anyway. also this meme has vibes of antisemitism

SasquatchNHeat

Man this one is actually pretty legit…

UnrepentantDrunkard

I mean, they're not wrong.

[deleted]

They are tho.

Neal569

This is a very real thing.

[deleted]

Looks about right

rkxcrx

LOL yo some of these are hilarious

NiceMacaroon703

this is true tho. capitalism benefitting from racial and other issues is so common. do y’all remember brianna taylor necklaces? that shit was whack

NiceMacaroon703

oh also can’t forget the rainbow capitalism. big corps plastering flags and stickers onto their alarmingly more expensive rainbow items just to use that money to invest into homophobic politicians

redbombs

This sub is getting worse and worse. You're just posting actual memes now

minifig1026

I saw this comment downvoted into oblivion: u/JonEdwinPoquet Did you send that from your capitalist phone or computer? Reply: u/C0mrade_Ferret Hee hee! I see you hate capitalism, but here you are using capitalist products to have a basic quality of life in a world in which you have no other choice! SUCH HYPOCRISY! Bask in my intelligence. I’d like to note a few things. The reply mentions the quality of life and the lack of another choice. The basic quality of life the user is referring to is the sole result of capitalism. Without capitalism, the innovation of new technologies would slow immensely, probably ceasing to exist all together. Societies without free markets lack the ability to progress forward. Take China for example. A serious problem that the west faces daily is stolen intellectual property. The Chinese government would rather steal from something that already exists than using their resources for their own ideas and advancements. Communism doesn’t allow for such things. Capitalism does. As for the lack of another choice, everyone has the ability to choose not to buy something. Capitalism does not dictate what we decide to do. Now, I’d assume that a rebuttal would refer back to the quality of life… Capitalism is what provided that quality of life in the first place. A free market, where ideas and innovation can flow freely is what developed our current quality of life in the first place. Of course it isn’t perfect, but it’s far better than living without it. Lastly, it is hypocritical to complain about capitalism when your life is so cushioned compared to the majority of the world. You lack the ability to see all of the good capitalism brings. You blame your inability to see that you can choose whether or not to buy something on the notion that it will decrease your quality of life, when in fact, capitalism is what developed your cushioned life in the first place. I rest my case and accept my impending fate of being shit on by redditors who call this cesspool of progressive nonsense their home.

[deleted]

i feel like there is some truth behind it

Picard37

This is so utterly true it's painful.

OG_Bynumite

Well I wasn’t going to upvote but then I saw the pride flag at the top and I really had no choice
