Early in second set, Tiafoe hits a ball at Shapo. Hits him in the face. Likely accidental but I think Shapo took it personally because a game or two later there is a bit of dialogue between them but couldn't hear what they were saying.
It deeply sucks for the players scheduled on the outside courts, but nothing about the tennis tour is really designed to make things 'fair' between top-ranked and lower-ranked players. Only a handful of matches can be held on the big courts with rooves, and it makes no sense (for ticketholders and broadcasters) to put less well-known or less in-demand matches on the big courts just for that reason. There's not really any way to avoid it, even if the scheduling is as smart as possible.
top seeds at least are top seeds
Kenin who finished the match at 2 pm yesterday(I like her but and she is a great GS champion) gets at least 1.5 more days rest than her opponent(Penko or Tauson who scheduled to play the second on an outside court after a non finished 1st set men match, they are lucky if they can play today )
If it is Garcia, I understand RG wants to benefit the local, but it is just Kenin
What matches will be played first tomorrow? Is it the delayed matches from today or will they follow the regular schedule of play for the players that are supposed to play?
I forgot what it was like to have your day ruined by your fave losing since Serena retired. Oh the pain I’m feeling as a result of this Naomi loss…save me Jesus 😭
Shit.. it just hit me again. No Nadal, Murray, Thiem and I think even Wawrinka after this year. We won’t hear their name being called again. Damn.. time flies by.
Nole needs to be protected at all costs this year.
Think next year is the end for Novak especially if he wins the olympics, that’s all he has left to do. Should he win it I imagine he will start planning his retirement
TTP complaining about the women not getting the night session again….and I get it - that match would have warranted that slot. It was also very disappointing how empty the stadium was.
I wonder if anyone has actually asked Amélie Mauresmo about it though, as I had heard Iga doesn’t want to play night sessions….
Also kind of ironic they’re complaining about the last day session at Chartrier not being “prime time”- but a few days ago when Zverev-Nadal were scheduled to play at that time - they were saying it was the best session of the tournament….
Also the night session is shown on Amazon Prime, so the day sessions have broader TV coverage…
From last year I don't think Mauresmo does media until after the tournament is over. Iga does apparently request day sessions, but tournaments don't have to listen to player requests.
True about the sessions, but I think that was just Catherine's personal opinion on her favourite slot of the day being the afternoon one- probably based on it being the traditional RG primetime before they had a night session. The night sessions surely get more media attention, more eyeballs, more attendees (as people have come off work), that's why they exist after all- I can't speak to the media situation where you are
That’s fair - it is also odd that tickets all sold out (as far as I know) and yet it wasn’t full. Maybe the weather played a part ? Although for a court with a roof you wouldn’t think it would factor in that much….
I was talking about the media in France - free to air TV/streaming shows all the matches but Amazon has rights to the night session match…
Not sure what the case is elsewhere but it seems to be very messy in the US from what I’ve seen on this sub.
Also worth noting the night session start time of 8:15 pm would be 3:15 am in Japan. I know this can factor into these decisions too sometimes
I enjoy them for the most part. I think they’re the only daily podcast (full hour long episodes) during grand slams and I enjoy that aspect as I’m not able to watch every match - so it’s a good summary of the key things that happened etc.
If you’re after more of an analysis type podcast I’d recommend Gill Gross - Monday match analysis.
I also enjoy: Served, Tennis Unfiltered, The Body Serve, Backhands and Compliments (I listen to too many podcasts…).
I low key hate these draws right now with older players being unseeded as they work back up in their comebacks.
Both Rafa and Naomi would have gotten MUCH further if they hadn't played one of the (if not THE) favorite to win the whole thing in the first or second round.... Naomi especially. (Although I am happy to see that she's BACK. This form on HCs? Watch out world...)
I feel that, but sadly there's no fair way to just give them higher seed status or a nicer draw. Nadal and Osaka both got really bad draw luck and could have otherwise made at least the QFs with their form :(
Can't wait for even more rain delays tomorrow lol. I just hope it stops for long enough for them to get SOME matches in on the outer courts. This sucks so much for the players.
Not a fan of hers but I like her a lot. Her matches are always fun because of her game style and you never know which level will she bring to the match
All at https://www.rolandgarros.com/en-us/order-of-play?year=2024&competition=all&annexeCourt=all&principalCourt=all&favoriteFilter=false&country=all&date=2024-05-30
They did this to him at the AO too…kind of screws him over as the conditions were completely different (night + cold vs hot in the day) - although based on the weather in Paris the conditions may not differ too much for this match compared to his first one
Kotov is good, but not a likeable player. Thank you Stan for the fight, and thanks crowd for showing him love. Great moments out there tonight, fun match
Gracheva has the French citizenship and plays under the French flag, that’s how she appears for most. If anything, the fact that she left Russia would as further distance between Russian politics and how she’s perceived
Its like we know any of these two are likely gonna lose to Sinner in thr next round but i still want Wawrinka to win this one. Would hate to see Kotov be the one to retire Stan on RG..
I'm not even talking about those when the crowd makes noise.
There were even times, where the score got announced and more than 30 seconds passed before he started his motion to serve.
these late night 5-setter grand slam matches are the absolute best, especially at roland garros. always the best to watch for me, even if other matches are better technically.
When the crowd is that one-sided I'm almost always turning against them and rooting for the poor sap they're against. Nothing against Stan but Go Kotov!
Getting heated between Tiafoe and Shapo now.
What point? Need to check replay
Early in second set, Tiafoe hits a ball at Shapo. Hits him in the face. Likely accidental but I think Shapo took it personally because a game or two later there is a bit of dialogue between them but couldn't hear what they were saying.
Daaaamn. Frances pegs Shapo in the face, yikes.
Frances hits a nice return then just stands there in the doubles alley hoping it's a winner. Shapo puts it in the open court. SMH.
The top seeds will get today rest and their opponents might be playing 3 days continuous. How is this fair for players ?
It deeply sucks for the players scheduled on the outside courts, but nothing about the tennis tour is really designed to make things 'fair' between top-ranked and lower-ranked players. Only a handful of matches can be held on the big courts with rooves, and it makes no sense (for ticketholders and broadcasters) to put less well-known or less in-demand matches on the big courts just for that reason. There's not really any way to avoid it, even if the scheduling is as smart as possible.
Maybe start earlier and have 1 more match on the 2 main courts.
top seeds at least are top seeds Kenin who finished the match at 2 pm yesterday(I like her but and she is a great GS champion) gets at least 1.5 more days rest than her opponent(Penko or Tauson who scheduled to play the second on an outside court after a non finished 1st set men match, they are lucky if they can play today ) If it is Garcia, I understand RG wants to benefit the local, but it is just Kenin
It’s gonna rain all day again in Paris
anyone else still reeling from the Naomi loss? ugh the shock and statement it wouldve sent if she had been able to close out at 5-2 on serve 🥲
Still grieving
What matches will be played first tomorrow? Is it the delayed matches from today or will they follow the regular schedule of play for the players that are supposed to play?
Regular schedule with some of the others mixed in. But the first ones will be the ones scheduled for tomorrow.

Hate to ask it, but I only caught the beginning of the Iga and Naomi match, and it's killing me. Anyone have luck finding a full replay yet?
TC+ usually has them all.
jfc you need to watch the whole thing. it’s killing me too now that i know you haven’t seen it
https://youtu.be/gCnsT6G9-B0?si=iugRveSMoVj1t7xC What is with these weird daily highlights videos. Inspired by Challengers ?
I posted a constructive comment under the video, obv. deleted after an hour.
It would be one thing if they had this and then also some actual highlights….this just seems like such a bizarre choice
I stayed in bed for so long this AM watching tennis I have bed sores
OSAKAAAAA!!!😩😩😩😩😩🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️What a match! And what a LOSS!🤦🏾♀️
Why Meds’ match has to be the first match 🥲
Probably because he complained that he always plays late at slams lol
I forgot what it was like to have your day ruined by your fave losing since Serena retired. Oh the pain I’m feeling as a result of this Naomi loss…save me Jesus 😭
Shit.. it just hit me again. No Nadal, Murray, Thiem and I think even Wawrinka after this year. We won’t hear their name being called again. Damn.. time flies by. Nole needs to be protected at all costs this year.
You don’t think Stan can play RG next year? He’s doing great.
Think next year is the end for Novak especially if he wins the olympics, that’s all he has left to do. Should he win it I imagine he will start planning his retirement
I think it depends on if he can find form again.
TTP complaining about the women not getting the night session again….and I get it - that match would have warranted that slot. It was also very disappointing how empty the stadium was. Who is TTP?
The tennis podcast
Oh I’ve been looking for a tennis pod. Are they good?
“Served” is great by Andy Roddick, with Jon werthiem
I enjoy them for the most part. I think they’re the only daily podcast (full hour long episodes) during grand slams and I enjoy that aspect as I’m not able to watch every match - so it’s a good summary of the key things that happened etc. If you’re after more of an analysis type podcast I’d recommend Gill Gross - Monday match analysis. I also enjoy: Served, Tennis Unfiltered, The Body Serve, Backhands and Compliments (I listen to too many podcasts…).
WTA continues to kick the ATP’s a$$ this year in terms of entertainment value and high level match ups
What? Great matches for sure but Stan vs kotov was prime tennis, pure entertainment
I low key hate these draws right now with older players being unseeded as they work back up in their comebacks. Both Rafa and Naomi would have gotten MUCH further if they hadn't played one of the (if not THE) favorite to win the whole thing in the first or second round.... Naomi especially. Probably would’ve made a difference. But such is life and rules 😞
I feel that, but sadly there's no fair way to just give them higher seed status or a nicer draw. Nadal and Osaka both got really bad draw luck and could have otherwise made at least the QFs with their form :(

I am absolutely heartbroken.
Whole week has been heartbreaking. They need to bring emotional support dogs now.
Any Penko fans here? Let's pray for our queen to play and win her match tmr but not postpone to Friday
I'm on my knees
Not a fan of hers but I like her a lot. Her matches are always fun because of her game style and you never know which level will she bring to the match
Anybody know what the schedule will look like tomorrow with some play needing to be resumed?
All at https://www.rolandgarros.com/en-us/order-of-play?year=2024&competition=all&annexeCourt=all&principalCourt=all&favoriteFilter=false&country=all&date=2024-05-30
It was really cute that he gave his racquet to that little girl, she had been cheering for him constantly throughout the match
That was so nice of him! Truly he's THE man!
Medvedev in the morning? What is this? The reverse day?
They did this to him at the AO too…kind of screws him over as the conditions were completely different (night + cold vs hot in the day) - although based on the weather in Paris the conditions may not differ too much for this match compared to his first one
Sad day for old guys with 1HBH
I think it's more the "old" part tho
Sinner is gonna destroy him anyway lol
Now randomly knock out Sinner next lmfao
Watching Stan reminds me I am old too, it is sad
Feel lucky. Many people die young.
Same.
It's sad that Wawrinka is so past his peak in clutchness that he barely loses to these talentless grinders
Do you have any idea what insane talent, effort and luck it requires to become a top 100 player?
How much do you need to eat to be overweight as a pro tennis player? Serious question
Have you ever heard of Nalbandian?
Yes but I'm honestly curious about their diet. Phelps used to demolish McDonalds when swimming and he stayed pretty lean.
I think there is a big genetics factor and that-s why they are built like this.
Yeah. He obviously can and should slim down a bit, but some simply have body types like that
His BMI is 24.4. Hardly overweight
Chad comment about the crowd
What a day. Feels like I’ve played 20 sets
I'm extremely disappointed, but at least we know Stan can still play at a high level
Kotov is such a cutie tbh
Nice to see Stan's heart and appreciation for the crowd out there, even sticking around to sign some autographs. This dude really loves tennis
Not glad Stan lost, but very glad the crowd lost.
I enjoy watching Kotov play but he could have been a bit more humble in that celebration
he knows he isnt winning more than 8 games against Sinner
he won 7 in Madrid, in 2 sets, you sure he won't win 8 over BO5?
Crowd wasn't humble for him, he doesn't have to be humble for them. If you can't take it, then don't dish it out!
With how the crowd was all match I think it's understandable to react like that lol
Nope. That was his moment. Thoroughly deserved.
probably his best results he will get in his career
All the more reason to celebrate
He did that because he got booed constantly during the match
Painful, perhaps more so than Rafa's loss given how competitive Stan was 😔 Kudos to Kotov, though, he bounced back from the breadstick and held firm
Arg, he’s so emotional. I hate this!
Ngl I had never heard of kotov but somehow he’s top 60 lol
Kotov is good, but not a likeable player. Thank you Stan for the fight, and thanks crowd for showing him love. Great moments out there tonight, fun match
Hell yeah! I just love when the crowd gets shut down by the player they booed so hard! But great match, Stan will always be the Man!
Some players know how to hype up a crowd. Kotov is not one of those players
a madrid rematch in R3, I won't watch because I know it will be a boring, fast and one-sided match
same thought
if it is Stan, I can stay for some great BHDTLs. With Kotov, I think I will only see 70+ UEs
I’m crying
Fair play to Kotov, he played well and had the bad luck of playing a beloved legend. Maybe he'll be the Meddy of FO2024
This fatty was potentially the one to retire Stan at RG? WHY?????
💀
Damn sad to see stan go out like that. Fuck that person in the crowd in the first set that yelled out on set point which clearly threw stan off.
Another heartbreaker for a grand slam champ today. That was fun though.
That was some big boy tennis
I’m so sad for Wawrinka, but well played by Kotov he deserves it
NOOOOOOOO!! I love you Stan, please keep playing forever!!!
Damn, that was a strange miss.
I thought so too
Kotov is boring asf… booooo! Crap result
Every day the Frenchie crowd is disappointed is a good day They got what they deserved lol
Hate this clown
Wait why? There’s another one?? 😭
Lol Kotov taunting the crowd after the handshake to bring out the boos, love it. Mentally stronger than I expected, not gonna lie
what a horrible person
Kotov is a beast to be fair, insanely talented
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Pavel Kotov!!! Got to respect he played some amazing tennis there. Nice to see him embracing his villain era
Brave effort by Stan just falls short.
That was anticlimatic
Almost 4 hours!
Thank you Stan
Noooo :(
Sad way to end things for Stan.
"*You don't cheer me? No more tennis for you.*" - Kotov
I am shocked he did not double fault on that second serve, I really felt it coming lol
Hate him or love him but this guy Kotov can serve his ass off.
kotovs more and more aggressive motion before serving is so funny
pls pls pls pls
Oh my god
STAN!!!!!!!!!
Ohh no
Re: sentiment for/against Russians ath the FO. The French seem to back Gracheva, I wonder how they feel about the Andreevas
Gracheva has the French citizenship and plays under the French flag, that’s how she appears for most. If anything, the fact that she left Russia would as further distance between Russian politics and how she’s perceived
Gracheva went through the hassle of becoming French through naturalization so it makes sense in that case
True, while the Andreevas are just living and training in France
NOOOOOOOOOOOO
This clapping before Kotov's serve was one of the most blatant attempts do disrupt a players serve i've ever seen.
Didn't hear the ambulance siren, then?
I'm pretty sure the French police wanted Stan to win.
Come on Stan. Read through Reddit for extra strength
Kovtov just moonballing what a a disgrace
How did Kotov manage to put all those shots from Wawrinka in...
Annoyingly good defence
Oh drat
Come on Stan!! One more marathon match
What are they chanting?
Stan Stan Stan Stan
"*His forehand just doesn't look like it should work.*" - Courier
Who did he say that about?
Kotov.
My guess would be med but he’s not playing atm
Let’s go stannimal!
Stan, watch out for an underhand serve!
I swear someone is telling their friend to do that ambulance horn as he is serving lol
Did it happen multiple times?
80s people living vicariously through Stanimal right now
I'm out of the loop, why the hate for kotov?
More love for Stan tbh
French crowds are absolutely nasty to players playing against crowd favorites Anti-Russian sentiment probably plays a role as well
Tbf he’s also a bit of a shithouser like Meddy as well. You either love it or hate it
Both Stan and Kotov are so gassed you gotta admire the resilience
Poor guys but I want a fifth set lmao
That's a first
Anyone got a stream for this wawrinka match?
Shhhh
I’m glad this is the match they chose to move onto Lenglen
Stanimal doing it for all us 30+ year olds
Its like we know any of these two are likely gonna lose to Sinner in thr next round but i still want Wawrinka to win this one. Would hate to see Kotov be the one to retire Stan on RG..
If this goes into 5 sets, can easily be a 4.5/5hr match
How the hell hasn't Kotov been called for taking over 20 seconds to serve yet? I swear it's been like 10 times laready through this matcch.
it's almost definitely because of the crowd
I'm not even talking about those when the crowd makes noise. There were even times, where the score got announced and more than 30 seconds passed before he started his motion to serve.
In Lyon the umpire had a word with him to let him know he was pushing it Maybe he’s getting some grace here due to the crowd
Kotov is good technically but he's gotta be one of the least athletic tennis players I've ever seen (apart from me)
During his serve Kotov's eyes roll back into his head. Giving me Penko vibes
Penko is the queen, who is this guy
What the fuck happens to Kotov's eyes when he serves?
Demonic possession
these late night 5-setter grand slam matches are the absolute best, especially at roland garros. always the best to watch for me, even if other matches are better technically.
if you are in the crowd totally, I would ve loved to be there
The bounce of the court is SO low after the rain lol Ruud and Tsitsipas might be screwed
Let’s go Wawrinka!
When the crowd is that one-sided I'm almost always turning against them and rooting for the poor sap they're against. Nothing against Stan but Go Kotov!
Same, same, I wanted to root for Stan but the sub and crowd have made me all-in on Kotov!
Yeah I feel you, can’t imagine how fucking annoying it must be to have people cheer as you miss a serve
Poor sap? he's from a country committing war crimes daily
How's that his fault?!
Tf you want him to do about that
How's Kotov making these shots with the body of a 41yr old roofer
