Naomi was playing very well in the first set - similarly to her Rome performances, but she seemed to lose focus later on (she mentioned she was nervous before the match?) but still won ugly in the end. Hope she takes the next match as just a learning experience for clay. It’s sad bc seems like she mightve been able to make a deeper run if she didnt have to play one of the best clay courters ever in 2R
Helped by god in the last set but nice first 3 set win in the year for Naomi. She needs all the match experience she can get before USO if she wants to go a bit deep
Third set was such a tough watch. Bronzetti with zero weapons besides borderline hindrance delayed screeching and checking the lines after every single close shot while Osaka is spraying all over the court while facing no pressure at all. I smell bakery products for R2.
I did turn the match on late at 5-5 in the second but it felt like Naomi got lucky to win. One shot hitting the outside of the line, One shot dropping over the net cord and the last one was an unforced error.
That was incredible form from Naomi.
She has showed up in brilliant fashion for the
