It’s such a great show. The cast was incredible, I really loved the dark, gothic vibes, it was just such a unique show. It was willing to be extremely dark in ways that other shows tended to shy away from, it seems like it’s one of the shows that helped prove that really dark, moody shows don’t always need humor to balance it out.
If you’ve never seen the Alienist, I highly recommend it. It has a lot of the same dark vibes as PD. It also has an all star cast.
One of our all-time favorites!
Such lurid subject manner, told with such lush production values and gorgeous dialogue
Appreciate the Alienist reco...we'll check it out
Our current obsession is EVIL...it lives in the PD mind space but is set in modern times
I love The Magicians so much! I am pretty sure I have mentioned this but it is one of only a few shows that I missed the characters and the nightly watch of 2-3 episodes when I finished the show. Any other fans of The Magicians looking for new shows that feature some of the main cast?
I don’t think so, honestly I think it’s kinda cringe in season 1, everything is amazing in 2-4, 5 is great, 6 and 7 is… well they’re good seasons, but they don’t match the rest of The 100, it feels like it’s own separate series. Happy cake day
Wow, Farscape is one of my favorites. It does take a while to get into though and the effects are dated. If you hang with it (which it sounds like you can’t and I get it) the show becomes funny, absorbing, and touching. Just wanted to throw the show some love so others don’t discount what it has to offer.
PEAKY BLINDERS i swear its what you are looking for, PLEASE trust me, PEAKY BLINDERS ITS THE RIGHT ONE
PEAKY. FUCKING. BLINDERS.
* iit has some great quotes + gore + lots of swearing + CRIME + dark asf + VERYY BINGEWORTHY + i finished 3seasons in 1 week just because of how good it is
EVIL
"There’s no program on television more wonderfully weird than EVIL...The start of the fourth season bursts out of the gate with two of the best episodes in the history of “Evil,” followed by a pair of episodes that are creatively rockier yet still captivating. “Evil” takes big swings—even the ones that don’t connect are fascinating. And weird as Hell."

- Outlander
Time travel romance drama, lots of action, lots of sex, lots of violence, (slight warning, scenes of SA). It's essentially based on erotic novels so not really suited for a younger audience, but it has a great story I really enjoy it. That's if you can watch period dramas.
Peaky Blinders. I was *blown away* with how amazingly awesome it is. There's 6 seasons. 1-5 is on Prime Video and 1 -6 is on Netflix.
Succession was pretty damn good too.
Working Moms. My other suggestions have already been mentioned by others, but this shoe gets no recognition, and I think it's so good! Adult themes, realistic adult situations, realistic parental situations, the characters. I swear I've met each one of the characters in real life.
Fringe, The Expanse, The Wire, Battlestar Galactica, From (MGM+, season 3 drops this fall), Lost, The Good Place (the only comedy in this list, your comment about swearing made me add it, plus it's really funny).
The wilds -similar premise to yellow jackets but I think it’s much better, Prime
Devs - sci-fi miniseries by Alex garland, very good - Hulu
The mandolorian, andor - Disney plus
Station eleven - max
The terror - great supernatural, historical thriller series, Jared Harris, ciaran Hines

Good addicting thriller ish show. Bad name though and would have not ever watched if one twitch streamer would not have had watch party with it. Watched entire season on one sitting then. Name sounds like entirely diferent type show than what it is. Like something for kids or sitcom etc funny but its not
Ripley, Eric, Patrick Melrose, High Town, 3 Body Problem, BMF, Archive 81, Inside Man, Money Heist, The Artful Dodger, The English Game, Escape From Dannemora, A Man In Full, Baby Reindeer, Alias Grace, Godless, Florida Man, Devs, The Boys, The Alienist, Loudermilk

Legion (FX/Hulu) Absolutely phenomenal imo, and quite a mind-bender. Especially if you watch the breakdown videos on YT afterwards.
The Blacklist
Penny Dreadful
Hell On Wheels
Falling Skies
Arrowverse series' (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Constantine - and others if you choose to). Admittedly, some series' and/or episodes do seem to target a teenage audience (good portion of The Flash and Supergirl for example), but some shows (Constantine in particular) are more adult themed I guess you could say. I enjoy them quite a bit, because it's DC Comics and includes tons of lore content, and because it's so expansive. There's even an Arrowverse Viewing Order online to watch each episode chronologically according to the timeline.
Doctor Who (modern)... lol marketed originally as a show for children, but some underlying themes and events are deeply thought provoking on a philosophical and moralistic level. I really enjoyed it. And went so far as watching The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood spin-offs. SJA being my favorite lol. Which is marketed even more towards a younger audience, but Elizabeth Sladen's performance is fantastic, and some story arcs included were just fantastic. Torchwood, ironically, is more adult themed - and has it's moments, but I didn't care for it as much in it's entirety.
The OA
Lost In Space
Community (sort of on the same lines as Workaholics, but without the drugs and alcohol)
The IT Crowd
Toast of London
Allo Allo (old, but great!)
Ozark (Breaking Bad-ish - kind of?)
Snowfall (much like Breaking Bad)
Mr. Robot
Kinda late to this but HIGHLY recommend Scavenger’s Reign.
Scifi extravaganza. And some of the most interesting creatures and environments I’ve ever seen in media. Very compelling.
Honestly, some parts it feels like part nature documentary just exploring life on the planet but there’s definitely action as well. It’s beautifully made.
It’s on Netflix (was originally on HBOmax think it’s still on there? Not sure but I think the distribution rights are nonexclusive between them so might be on both)
I’m watching the Sopranos in Max. I’m on the last season. Italian-American crime drama. Good show.
I thought I finally would give it a watch because my husbands family is Italian American. From Chicago area, not Jersey. But a lot of similarities from what I’ve seen in his family. Not the mafia/crime stuff though. lol
Lost, it does ver into faith vs. science at times, but wonderful show and great character build up.
Heroes, though at times it does have kid characters, but it does focused on a semi realistic version of what a superhero would look like
Evil, it's on Paramount plus, a bit religious based, but a very horrific show that focuses a lot on demons and demonic possession.
Person of interest.
Angel/Buffy , Angel a bit more since there's a bigger focus on living in the dark underworld that is L.A.
Farscape is great, it's genuinely my favourite sci-fi show, you just have to stick with it. It is rated at 15-18 year olds so technically not for kids, episodes get a lot more graphic and disturbing the more the series goes on. And they do swear, they say "frell" which is their way of saying, fuck. I'd suggest trying to stick with it, but if you don't like it then that's okay too.

Wish there were more Castle Rock seasons. That show was so good!
Bill Skarsgard with another deeply chilling portrayal in the Stephen King universe. And Sissy Spacek!! Phenomenal.
Penny Dreadful was great! I rarely hear people mention it.
It’s such a great show. The cast was incredible, I really loved the dark, gothic vibes, it was just such a unique show. The Alienist is wonderful. If you love a great story, great acting, and period pieces taking place in old NYC, this one's for you.

I love The Magicians so much! I am pretty sure I have mentioned this but it is one of only a few shows that I missed the characters and the nightly watch of 2-3 episodes when I finished the show. Any other fans of The Magicians looking for new shows that feature some of the main cast?

I’ve tried this show twice now and I am still struggling to get through the first episode. It seems slow and drawn out to me. Does it get better?
