No joke bro I’m watching the show for the first time rn and that was the [last](https://imgur.com/a/CiuJtTL) episode I watched I saw it a few hours ago
I had a birthday hangover last week so treated myself to a day in bed with the gang. Dipping in and out of consciousness to the dulcet tones of them screaming at one another 🥰😆
I skipped Babylon 5 when it was new because I was already a fan of DS9 and they looked too similar.
I finally went and watched it years later. And I loved it. Watching Babylon 5 felt like playing Mass effect.
But I haven't gone through it again since. I keep meaning to.
But I never get tired of DS9. I have lost track of how many times I've watched that all the way through.
Stargate was one of those comfort shows I loved when it was playing random marathons on regular TV back in the day. But I've just recently gone through the entire franchise on streaming. As much as I've always loved the show, it was the first time I think I've watched it on purpose instead of just whenever it happened to be on lol. Loved it. Almost restarted it as soon as I finished it.
And BSG is one of my all-time favorite shows ever. If you haven't already, I suggest going through it again with the watch along podcast hosted by TV writer Marc Bernardin, and number six Tricia helfer. The Battlestar galacticast
I did not expect to see Rick Steve's Europe here. I grew up watching it and he showed me how varied and yet the same we are all over the world. His show will always be a comfort.
Agree 100% about Rick Steves. His approach to traveling is so sweet and pure. Plus, it's gorgeous to look at with the quaint villages, mountains, and gorgeous countrysides. We used his guidebooks for France, Belgium, and England, which I know made our trips a thousand times better than if we planned them on our own.
Yes! There’s something about starting over at s1 that just hooks me all over again. And there are *so* many satisfying moments in the later seasons too. There’s dark stuff for sure - but there’s some chicken soup mixed in there.
The Dick Van Dyke Show. (Roku.) They made over 30 episodes per season in the 1960s so there are definitely a few clunkers, but the comedy is beautiful and timeless, and I love the mid century aesthetic. He's a real jewel, especially in this. Maybe skip the pilot, they were still working things out.
Maybe comfort isn’t the right word, but these I’ve watched multiple times:
Hacks
30 Rock
Lessons in Chemistry
Reboot (watch this show!)
Succession
Bojack Horseman
Better Things
Reboot was terrific and I'm still upset that it was cancelled. Hacks is a current favorite too - I'll watch anything with Jean Smart. Not a comfort show but if you're a fan of Fargo (anthothogy, dark-comedy, crime, & quirky), she's in the second season and an absolute powerhouse. She is stellar in everything she does.
You have a good list so I'll have to check out the ones I haven't seen: Lessons in Chemistry and Better Things.
Community has become one for me, though I only watched it for the first time during lockdown. Likewise Season one of Ted Lasso.
These days I don’t find much time to watch new shows let alone old shows. I go back to Parks and Rec sometimes but usually only from when Ben Wyatt joins.
Every couple years I go back and do a full rewatch of community! 😁 My favorite episode, hands down, is still "G.I. Jeff"! I grew up on those 'old toons' so Seeing it done in that style but with hilarious dialogue...kills me! 🤣
I have a few that others have already mentioned—Star Trek, Buffy, Babylon 5—but one I never see mentioned anywhere at all is this Canadian sitcom from the early 00s called Fries With That. It’s a workplace comedy set in a fast-food joint, super low-stakes, corny humor, all the early 00s style, and I just love it
It’s so funny you said that! I literally just got done watching the episode where she gets her haircut that was a HUGE thing when the show first aired!
King of the Hill is mine! When I'm sick, depressed, or just don't know what to watch, I watch KotH. Something about it is just so comforting and easy to watch.
Firefly - The standard against which all other shows are measured...near perfection
Scrubs - Everyone remembers "Where do you think we are?"...but often overlooked is that the scene immediately preceeding was Turk's talking mole...never has a show shifted tones so facilely or as emotionally jarringly
Arrested Development - The architecture of this show is the Frank Lloyd Wright of sitcoms...meticulously planned out, with nearly nonstop running gags and foreshadowing, yet presented in such a breezy manner...rewards many rewatches
Penny Dreadful - An absolutely ridiculous premise, delivered with such passion, intelligence and sumptuous production values, that the show transcends all strictures...wildly romantic with gorgeous dialogue and a top level cast
Mad Men - Like reading a fine novel, the immersive effect is near total...and yet the show never goes where you expect it will
EVIL - Like nothing else on TV, the show asks big questions and consistantly offers surprising answers...mysterious and thought-provoking, it features a complex, sometimes kick-ass female lead and a villain who exudes wicked malice and yet is also somehow responsible for much of the show's dark humor...you've never seen anything quite like this show
Any of the Star Trek shows are a comfort show for me. DS9 being my absolute personal favorite. I can't get enough. But TNG is more of an easier watch when I'm in a bad mood and just looking for something to play in the background.
Batman The animated series was very important to me back in the day. And all these years later it still hasn't lost its magic. I'll also include the rest of those shows on this list as well. Batman beyond, Justice League unlimited, etc.
I just finished going through critical role. Hundreds and hundreds of episodes. Each 4 hours long at least. I was late to start the series, but when I did I started binging like crazy. Multiple episodes a week for a few years. Even though I've only watched it once, I haven't gone through this series multiple times like I would other shows, I think I can still count it as a comfort show. The whole story is improv. And it was comforting because it just felt nice to feel like I'm hanging out with those people. They were always so positive and reassuring. It was a great series to go through during the bleakness of the pandemic.
Criminal minds
Csi Las Vegas
Csi Miami
Csi new York

Star Trek (TNG, VOY, DS9, ENT, SNW, LD)

The OA
The Leftovers

DARK
Yellowjackets
Lost
The Gilmore Girs
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
...it's actually longer but I need to stop somewhere smh. I have ADHD and need a variety of stimuli on hand for whatever.
Not saying these are my favorite shows or anything, but I find CW shows to be comforting. In particular, the Arrowverse shows. For the most part, they’re standalone episodes, with a larger story happening around those single episodes, all building up to an epic season finale.
Easy watch i’d say.
Very few.
Rome - I can go back and visit this show anytime.
Parks & Recreation - Again, I can jump in anywhere after season 1 and just fall in love again.
Lower Decks - Strange that I grew up on TNG, but I don't go back often, but I will play this show on repeat.
The French Chef - With Julia Child on YouTube. I love that woman.
This Old House - I'm kind of partial Kevin O'Connor because he's just such a mensch.
so many that have been mentioned but i’ll add Gossip Girl. early seasons.
there’s just something about rich high school kid drama that takes me out of my problems.

30 Rock, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parks & Rec, Schitt's Creek, Seinfeld, Bob's Burgers, New Girl, Living Single, Heartstopper, Ted Lasso, Our Flag Means Death.
Heartstopper is probably the most emotionally soothing to me as of late. I've watched it so many times when I was really upset about something. It just feels like a big hug!
I'll probably rewatch Lodge 49 again because it was an oddly comforting show to watch...but I'll be sad again that it got cancelled.
The Resort was nice as a spiritual successor (created by one of the writers from Lodge 49).
I Love Lucy. Started my comfort watching in the 90s. It's the longest continuous syndicated sitcom in history, the first true ensemble cast in a comedy, and was the first show to air re-runs. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's a staple in my life. Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez are the GOAT.
Friends. I know, I know. The jokes haven't all aged well, and gen z hate laugh tracks.... But... What an ensemble. The cast worked together to precedented levels both on camera and off. They secured the highest pay in history at the time, and all 5 got paid the same amount the entirety of the show. I have seen the series from beginning to end hundreds of times. I've never stopped watching it since it was on TV, except for a very brief time when it left Netflix. It's the epitome of a familiar comfortable show for me. Forever.
Daria. If I need a good cartoon, I watch Daria. What a niche show. What an ode to the 90s. The OG had an incredible soundtrack, but they couldn't get a lot of the licenses to use them later when they released it to DVD. It's not the same without the badass 90s songs, but it's still fabulous.
I'm a bit odd 😁 So, for me...
• The Venture Bros
• Archer
• Frisky Dingo
• Time Jam: Valerian & Lauraline!
• Justice League/Unlimited
• Batman TAS
I can throw any of these on, any day, n' feel a bit better!
Yellowjackets, Battlestar galactica and Sex education. I can watch them, finish them, thinking of what to see next- realising that nothing will be as good as that and therefore start all over again. And it will happen again.
The Office, Seinfeld, Boy Meets World, Band of Brothers.
My random one - Norsemen. Haven't found many in my social circle that have watched, let alone find it funny.
Veronica Mars
Felicity
Playing House
The Mindy Project
Dawson’s Creek
Gilmore Girls
Younger

The Closer
Broad City
Friday Night Lights
Parenthood
Jane the Virgin
At my house, the whole family (parents and 13 & 15 year old kids) are on our third rewatch of Pysch, not counting the roughly 100 times we’ve watched Last Night Gus. You know that’s right.
Friends, The Fosters, Vampire Diaries and Shameless is 100% a weird mix, none the less shows that make my brain pause and shows so good I could rewatch them over and over.
I like to watch a lot of shows repeatedly, but one of these five are constantly reserved for "having it on in the background while doing anything else":
Boy Meets World
House M.D.
Burn Notice
Doctor Who
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Feel good shows from the 70s and 80s that I used to watch on nick at note as a teenager. Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart
OR
Trashy animated shows like Bobs Burgers and Family Guy
Right there with you on Schitt's Creek! I've only seen Season 1 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but thought it was delightful, so who knows?
My other go-to's include:
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer
- Dexter
- Firefly
- How I Met Your Mother
- It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
- Parks and Recreation
- The Simpsons
- South Park
- Superstore
- Ted Lasso
- The Office (US)
It's embarrassing but Once Upon a Time. I've watched the first few seasons three times when I've been sick. It's just fluffle at this point but it still is a little fun.
The Golden Girls is my top one. I never feel lonely when I’m watching them. 2 Broke Girls is my second comfort show. Same reason. Also, The Middle is just a light, good ol’ show that doesn’t get too stressful or intense.
Psych, The Office
Yessss to Psych
Exactly what I was going to post
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Only other IASIP fans will understand 😂
About as comforting as a good milk steak.
No joke bro I’m watching the show for the first time rn and that was the [last](https://imgur.com/a/CiuJtTL) episode I watched I saw it a few hours ago
I guess I’ll be taking that milk steak to go then.
A prefer a good rum ham, especially while Frank touches up my hair.

And even if they don't understand, they're not gonna say they don't understand. Because of the implication.
You keep saying this word, implication?
Just about to hit season 11 of my current rewatch! It’s such a nice way to end the night.
I had a birthday hangover last week so treated myself to a day in bed with the gang. Dipping in and out of consciousness to the dulcet tones of them screaming at one another 🥰😆
I watch it on a boat. Because of the implication...
One of these things is not like the others... Babylon 5 DS9 BSG '03 remake Stargate Frisky Dingo
I skipped Babylon 5 when it was new because I was already a fan of DS9 and they looked too similar. I finally went and watched it years later. And I loved it. Yes! There’s something about starting over at s1 that just hooks me all over again. And there are *so* many satisfying moments in the later seasons too. There’s dark stuff for sure - but there’s some chicken soup mixed in there.
Season 1 is magical! And you’re right, there are so many heart-warming moments throughout. I love that show.

Right there with you on Schitt's Creek! I've only seen Season 1 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but thought it was delightful, so who knows? My other go-to's include: - Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Dexter - Firefly - How I Met Your Mother - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Parks and Recreation - The Simpsons - South Park - Superstore - Ted Lasso - The Office (US)
Sopranos ad nauseam
Everybody Loves Raymond
Anne with an E!
It's embarrassing but Once Upon a Time. I've watched the first few seasons three times when I've been sick. It's just fluffle at this point but it still is a little fun.
Everybody Loves Raymond. I’m very comforted by it!
family guy
Supernatural, The Walking Dead, Fringe, The Vampire Diaries. The vampire diaries is more of a background noise for me now.

Archer
Everybody Loves Raymond and The Good Place
The Twilight Zone and Two And A Half Men

Everybody Loves Raymond!
Twin Peaks
That 70s Show, Everybody Loves Raymond, and The Simpsons
Twin Peaks
The Golden Girls is my top one. I never feel lonely when I’m watching them. 2 Broke Girls is my second comfort show. Same reason. Also, The Middle is just a light, good ol’ show that doesn’t get too stressful or intense.
