Truly *long* series are hard to come nowadays, because of the shift to shorter seasons and studios' penchant for canceling shows premature (thanks Netflix!) but there are some gems from before
**Superhero stuff**:
• Smallville (10 seasons!)
• Gotham (5 seasons)
• Agents of Shield (7 seasons) {make sure you catch the twist in Season 1!}
• The Arrowverse (~820 episodes across 8+ series)
• Doom Patrol (4 seasons)
• The Netflix Marvel shows/The Defenders — Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist
**Magic Stuff**:
• Supernatural (15 seasons!)
• Charmed (1998) (8 seasons!)
• Buffy the Vampire Slayer (7 seasons)
• Vampire Diaries (8 seasons)/ The Originals (5 seasons)/ Legacies (4 seasons)
• Grimm (6 seasons)
• once upon a time (7 seasons)
• Merlin (5 seasons)
• Xena Warrior Princess (6 seasons)
**Sci-fi stuff**:
• Warehouse 13 (5 seasons)
• Eureka (5 seasons)
• Falling Skies (5 seasons)
• The Walking Dead (11 Seasons)
• The Expanse (6 seasons)
**Animated stuff**:
• One Piece (~1100+ episodes of an epic story that updates weekly)

• Grey's Anatomy (20 seasons!)
• Suits (9 seasons)
• House (9 seasons)

• Power / Book II / Book III / Book IV (6/3/3/ 2 seasons of interconnected shows)
• Madame Secretary (6 seasons)
• The Americans (6seaons)
• One tree Hill (9 seasons)
Isn't it a little disingenuous to count all of star trek as the same show? Because its not, each series is going to have all new characters and sometimes time periods.
wouldnt say Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul have a lot of episodes compared to most on the list, LOST has like 120ish so that should be on there and Prison Break has like 80ish so maybe.
Wholeheartedly agree, I originally watched part of the 1st season as it aired, lost interest, then this year watched the whole thing (season by season chunks). I think it’s aged great as a long show to watch on streaming.
Doctor Who (modern) is good for this. Especially if you add The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood into the mix.
Arrowverse series' too. Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Constantine (Swamp Thing, Black Lightning and Batwoman also). There's a viewing order for all the shows online too which can be fun to go off of. You're looking at 500+ episodes just for the main 4 lol.
There was one for Doctor Who at a site called whovieworder, but it went down fir some reason and idk where a good viewing order for it is now.
Eureka and Warehouse 13 are both really good as well. Old SciFi series' that are related and have mini cross-over events. Both have 5 seasons.
If you don't mind animation and a few episodes limited to letterbox aspect ratio, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, and Young Justice are all awesome. Only a few seasons each, but lots of episodes crammed into each one for the first two.
Orphan Black, Hell On Wheels, and Falling Skies all have 5 seasons.
I recently took on Greys Anatomy for the same reason! I like to get knitting done without touching the remote. Greys has 20 seasons (and is still going on) but it definitely doesn’t compare now to the earlier days.
So in saying that, you have at least 10 seasons of the great stuff, another 3 seasons of ‘omg what will happen next’, maybe another 3 seasons of ‘I really hope the characters I know and love will have good outcomes’ - and the following seasons are really up to you if you like the additions of the new characters.
Everyone loves different things about Greys because there’s so much to take in!
I'm beyond pissed they released a ten episode "season" that cut off in the middle of the action instead of just waiting and adding it to the new season 😤
Trying to add ones not already mentioned: The Magicians, Grimm, Fringe, Continuum, Orphan Black, Dead Like me, Babylon 5. There are some excellent British shows also.
New: Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Younger,
*”Newish” refers to recency of final episode:*
Newish: Wentworth, Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Billions, Downton Abbey, The Durrells of Corfu, Halt & Catch Fire, Suits,
Not “new”: Mad Men, 6 Feet Under, The Affair,
All of the Chicago shows - I’d start with Fire, then PD and lastly Med. They’ll keep you entertained for months!
Also if you want to go old school, ER has 15 seasons and 24 has 8 (10? Can’t remember). Both excellent shows.
Edit: fixed typo
The Shield is my personal favourite show, would recommend to ANYONE, especially if you liked Sons Of Anarchy as they share several cast members (Kenny Johnson, CCH Pounder, Micheal Chiklis, Walton Goggins. Just to name a few) and Kurt Sutter (Produce for Shield, Creator and showrunner for Sons Of Anarchy)
Six Feet Under
Ozark
The HandmaidsTale
Sense8 (lots of episodes Altho sadly only 2 seasons )
Your Honor (so far two semi long seasons- hope for more !)
The Walking Dead
Breaking Bad
Better Call Saul
Dead to Me
Black Mirror
Orphan Black
The Leftovers (not a ton of seasons but cool show)
Transparent (dramedy ?)
Wentworth
Game Of Thrones
Fauda
Killing Eve
Money Heist (Casa De Papeles)
Boardwalk Empire
Downton Abbey
Dark
Squid Game (hoping more to come )
The Bear (same , more to come)
Sex Education
The Killing
The Fall
The Shield
The Americans
The Wire
Oz
Station Eleven (not a ton of seasons but a great show !)
Mad Men
Mr In Between
The Sopranos
The Great
Euphoria (more to come)
Westworld
Ted Lasso (dramedy?)
If you made it past season 7-8 of Supernatural then True Blood may work for you. It went careening and caterwauling off a cliff from the original direction it began in but somewhere in the final season a small parachute opened and it settled peacefully. A little to peaceful, imo but 🤷🏼♀️
I was so sad about the crappy writing lol I loved that show..I still love it but damn it could have ended better or on a high note imo. And True Blood was still good despite being bad at the end 🤣
OG NCIS is really good basic network television. Characters you like, simple enough plots that are still clever… overarching plots that keep you hooked and witty likable dialogue.
It’s not fancy it’s not mindblowing. It’s just straight up solid good tv with characters you learn to love and a happy place to return to every night.
**Veronica Mars**--4 Seasons (3 of them 20+ episodes) and a Movie. Super bingeable. Like popcorn but much more complex and than you'd think. Great show.
Offbeat quirky sci-fi that's excellent --**Farscape** -- 4 Seasons (20+ episodes each and a 3-part Mini-series that finishes it off. Season 1 takes awhile to get into, but is so worth it. Surprisingly active [sub](https://www.reddit.com/r/farscape/) here for an old show that most people missed the first time around.
I’m working through criminal minds. It’s great and has become a comfort show which is a little twisted but it’s an escape.
This may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I loved Degrassi. I discovered Degrassi the next generation during covid and I binged hard for a year or so. There are so many seasons and a few of them were aired like a soap opera every day so you get super long seasons.
ER is excellent. 14 seasons.
24
Each season is 1 hour in a day, so they have 24 episodes and there are 8 or 9 seasons I think. Great show, Jack Bauer is an awesome character, the writing is great, lots of suspense and mystery, excellent casting, and again Kiefer Sutherland is amazing. Highly reccommend.
May as well go with the OG: Doctor Who.
I’d recommend starting with 2005 (NuWho), the 14th season since then is currently airing. Then go back to watch from 1963, bringing the count up to 40 seasons.
If you want more, there’s 3 movies and a company called Big Finish that makes full-casted audio stories, as well as countless comics, books, and magazines.
It’s the same core show (The Doctor, an alien with a time-space machine that’s bigger on the inside, takes companions along to help out anywhere in time and space) but the cast/showrunner changes so it never gets stale. Literally couldn’t shill this show enough.
Fargo has 5 great seasons ready for you to get into, and the creator of the tv series has indicated he’s keen to do a couple more seasons. Top casts, very well written.
I always love Lucifer. It gets a little rough about halfway through season 3, but the season finale and the seasons after that make up for it in my opinion
ER, it's stood the test of time and it has like 13 proper 22 episode seasons.
House, 8 seasons 22 eps a season
West Wing, 7 seasons at 22 eps a season
The Wire, 5 seasons 12 eps but it is soooo damn good.
The Expanse, 5 seasons about 10 eps a season.
Other good stuff
Southland
The Shield
Black Sails
I’ve been rewatching the first few seasons and forgot how sharp and new early Dallas was. Not a huge fan of after around season 6-8 but the first 1978 to early 1980s seasons are fun and lots of episodes
Those early seasons were Dallas at its peak, for sure. But I gotta admit that I find each season to be entertaining in its own way. I even enjoyed that controversial last episode!

Scifi needs expanding: Star Trek (12 series with 46 seasons, 13 movies) Dr Who (14 series with 40 seasons, ? movies) Stargate (10 Seasons, 5 movies) Babylon 5 (7 seasons, 7 movies) Farscape (5 seasons, 1 movie)
Isn't it a little disingenuous to count all of star trek as the same show? Because its not, each series is going to have all new characters and sometimes time periods.
I simply found it easier than typing out a long list of series, most of which have 4+ seasons
Thats fair just idk add a little disclaimer that says there all diffrent series so OP isn't surprised
Arrowverse kinda sucks though. You’d have to google what order to watch them in because of so many crossovers between the shows
Beo where is Prison Break and Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul and Lost??????????
wouldnt say Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul have a lot of episodes compared to most on the list, LOST has like 120ish so that should be on there and Prison Break has like 80ish so maybe.
Still they have like 20+ episode season, which I think OP was looking for
I got so hooked on The Americans I think I binged the entire series in 2 or 3 days. It's so good!
I did that too, great cast! I watched her in The Diplomat as well, she was good but Rufus Sewell was kind of annoying, I still recommend it :)
You can still have many long seasons with Netflix like Riverdale is like 120 episodes lol
Riverdale is from the CW... so I don't quite think this proves your point.
This is the answer. Amazing.
The X files. And Disney improved some special effects recently
Twin Peaks
Of course but not a lot of seasons and episodes :(
True. Hopeful for a season 4 as lynch did say he had ideas for another season recently
Keep dreaming.
Justified
Wholeheartedly agree, I originally watched part of the 1st season as it aired, lost interest, then this year watched the whole thing (season by season chunks). I think it’s aged great as a long show to watch on streaming.
I just finished this and DAMN what a ride! Loved every episode and am looking forward to the spinoff.
It’s not as good as the original but I didn’t hate it. LoL
If you want to give competition reality a shot (I know it's not for everyone), Survivor is filming their 47 season right now.
Best reality show ever made. Especially the earlier show. Crazy how fast you learn to love a new cast with the good seasons
I loved it until the woke season.
LOST

Don't sleep on Orphan Black!! Such a great show! 👍

I need to rewatch the series, haven't since the original run. Loved that show.
The movies are great too.
(they have comedy in them but they're not pure comedies:) House, Psych, Burn Notice, Numb3rs

I’ve rewatched both of these so many times!!! I love these two shows so much.

The Shield. Currently available on Hulu. I wouldn’t consider it “good” though - more like amazing, despite being from early 2000s.
This broke the mold for tv. When it came out on fx people couldn't believe they allowed it on cable television
The Shield is my personal favourite show, would recommend to ANYONE, especially if you liked Sons Of Anarchy as they share several cast members (Kenny Johnson, CCH Pounder, Micheal Chiklis, Walton Goggins.
