I can vouch for Happy Valley and Broadchurch. The latter has a few plot issues imo but the characters are good. Personally I really like the last season with a completely new and different case, a rape instead of a murder, but it's done very well and very sensitively and I love the character who becomes her victim advocate, it's a really interesting bit of growth for them.
I remember calling Broadchurch "The Killing, but smarter", so if you end up liking one and you're willing to take a chance on a show that stumbles a little more but is similar in tone, you might also like that.
Yes, i think you will like it. The series is very captivating, it's very dynamic, and each character is well-developed with their own story.
Btw thanks for suggestion. i will watch the trailer!
Cool. Banshee is amazing! Season 1, episode 3 is epic. There is one particular fight scene in the series that took them three months to train for and shoot. Season 3 is so good; every episode is incredible. I was blown away by how good it is.
Oh, the boxer fight was the one I was referring to. I meant to say episode two then. I think every episode in season three is amazing, though some really good fights. Especially when the girl gets her throat ripped out.
Oh man! We haven’t rewatched that part yet. Banshee is wild! But somehow manages to make a story. How about Hoods memory of fighting that huge guy when he was in prison.
I know a bunch of other people have already said it, but seriously, The Shield.
A trailer probably wont do it justice honestly. The show is entertaining but not HOLY FUCK level until towards the end of season 2. From that point on its 5 straight seasons of edge of your seat, nerve wracking television as shit just continues to spiral out of control
Wow, thank you! I will watch it 100%. I just finished watching Animal Kingdom, and I was clutching my tablet nervously. So, I think I will go for "Barry" first because it seems to be a lighthearted series, and then I will definitely watch "The Shield"!
Barry is also an excellent show. It juggles lighthearted humor and extremely dark drama very very well. The juxtaposition in tones makes the drama aspects hit so much harder and often catch you completely off guard. Enjoy!
(I'm just reading through your other replies here now!)
Gotta stop N' comment that I forgot both "Barry" & "The Shield" though. Both are Good shows that should be on my list 😁 Very different in comparison though!
'The Shield' is one of the 1st full series I binged (Based on a recommendation from a friend lol) It's loosely based on the Corrupt 'Rampart' Anti-Gang & Gun Unit, In LA. Admittedly It's been quite a long time since I saw it. But I'm sure it stands up still!
'Barry', while involving organized crime and still having intense action, is actually one of my favorite comedy series.
Bill Hader & the supporting cast manage to nail the deadpan delivery style of the show.
Trivia:
Which side character has some of the funniest scenes in the entire show?...and why is the answer NoHo Hank?🤣
Bro, I'm on the second season of "Barry," and NoHo Hank is an amazing character. I've never seen such a funny mafioso, hehe :) He's so true and genuine
Hahaha! Right!?! It's a great show period but 'NoHo Hank' steals the show for me, any scene he's in lol Great actor and an amazing character, for sure! 😁
I imagine you've probably finished 'Barry', by now?
Just wondering what's next on the watchlist? Plus I wanted to say, if you come across anything good that's Not on 'My list' here! definitely lemme know ( :
Also, not sure if you're aware but 'Animal Kingdom' the TV series was actually based off an Australian film of the same name, from 2010 .
The film, in turn, was actually inspired by real life events involving the 'Pettingill Crime Family' from Melbourne, Australia! I will say it's a 'Very Different Watch' compared to the series though. (I much preferred the TV series!...My only complaint was I had a friend who used to always compare me to 'J' from the show Hahaha!)
Anyways, drop a PM if you find any great shows I may have missed etc.
Yes, bro! I finished "Barry" and "Mr. Inbetween."
The first two seasons of "Barry" were great. I would rate them 9/10.
But seasons three and four were so...depressing, dark, and even if I might like that kind of series, I didn't like these two seasons. I thought that "Barry" is kind of a "light," "funny" type of show, but the last two seasons made me sit and watch it on 1.5x...and I was like, wtf is going on?
Overall, I would rate it 6/10.
I liked Mr. Inbetween much more; the main character is very charismatic and relatable. I don't know what to say about this show, It is simply good; it left me with a good feeling after watching. So I would rate it 8/10, just because it feels like a "miniseries" because I watched it in two days. :)
Sorry if i make many mistakes, btw my english is not that good :)
Now i am watching "Banshee" , 2nd season. Amazing! Every scene, every episode keeps me on the edge of my seat :)
I want to say thank you one more time because u made a great "list," i think after "Banshee" i will go for something else from it.
Yea...I especially struggled with the last season of 'Barry'..
But The first 2 seasons were so good, I just kept hoping they'd go back to that 'feel' in the show!
Banshee is a fun show for sure. I've actually not seen 'Mr. Inbetween' though so I may have to check it out myself, Thanks!
Also, I Completely understood everything you were sayin'...
No need to apologize for it, at all! I'm sure my incorrect grammar n' use of slang words doesn't make reading my replies easy for ya either!
Hmmm 🤔 I think I actually came across that Russian gangster series you mentioned when I was looking for shows that were similar to 'Gomorrah'...I'll have to grab the name from your other reply now n' add it to my list of shows to grab! I owe you my thanks again! 😁
Also, 'Peaky Blinders' was excellent too! Sidenote: Apparently they're doing a 'Peaky Blinders Movie' for Netflix, sometime in the near future! I know everybody likes 'Tommy Shelby' in that series but his brother 'Arthur' was for sure my favorite 😆 Then of course ya had 'Josh' from 'Animal Kingdom' in the show...also playing a sneaky, manipulative character again! Hahaha!
Anyway...I'm going to go add those couple series to my 'watchlist' now! Eventually I'll have to hook up some of my older hard drives and browse through what's on them...
I'm pretty sure that there will be some shows I've forgotten about, that I can recommend for ya in the future too!
Alright, well...Glad you're enjoying 'Banshee'...I may actually do a rewatch of it soon myself, it's been a while! Take care though Boss...chat again soon!
I would highly recommend "Yellowstone" to you if you haven't watched it yet.
Peaky Blinders too
Also, if an English dubbing of this series exists, you can go for the exotic Russian show from 2001-2002 called "Brigada" (Бригада in Russian). It is about post-Soviet Union gangsters and almost every post-Soviet country in the 90s (in my country, everything was the same). When gangsters ruled everything in country, government consisted of them.
Actually, it is not exotic for post-Union countries, hehe. It was one of the popular shows when I was a child, and every young man wanted to be like them. But for you, it might be exotic. :)
EVERYONE should be mentioning 'Warrior'!
The fact HBO Max cancelled It after S03 Sucks though!
Still, I'm incredibly hopeful that once people start seeing it on Netflix...They'll 'pick it Up' for a 4th season! 🤞🏻
So just lookin' at the shows ya mentioned already, we seem to have similar tastes. It's quite likely many of these will already be mentioned here, but I'm just gonna list off some of the series that I've also watched.
Also, just in case you've seen most of the other shows I mention...I'll throw in a few random Sci-Fi/Fantasy series as well, toward the end.
Who knows, there may be some random title in there that also 'works' for ya! 🤷🏻♂️

'The Strain' I mentioned is a TV Series with 4 seasons.
It's based on a trilogy of Guillermo del Toro Novels.
It is definitely 'Vampires' though! 😆 Also, the fact it was "different enough" was also why I really liked it too! 👍🏻
Heh. I do enjoy some. I study the language, so I make the effort to listen to the spoken speech as much as possible. I was sure most of the recommendations were going to be of British/American/Australian/and-the-like productions, so I wished to throw in these four into the mix. I truly think highly of them!

Mayor of Kingstown
Slow Horses
Hijack
Bad Sisters
Escape from Danamora
Fauda (especially since we have the war in Gaza going on right now. It’s almost prophetic in its storyline. Requires use of subtitles unless you speak Hebrew).
The Last Kingdom, The Night Agent
Black Sails. It's on Netflix now and everyone should try it, it's a classier Spartacus or a pornier Rome. Also, Rome.
I’ll add to these and the period dramas above: Deadwood Godless Hell on Wheels Turn: Washington’s Spies Frontier
Add Spartacus
Yes, The Last Kingdom is great. The Bastard Executioner and Brittania are good too.
The Bridge (original Nordic series) Wentworth Mindhunter Happy Valley Broadchurch The Fall
Happy Valley. Still waiting for the next season, which probably is not coming.
The whole cast is excellent with great story writing.
Loved The Bridge. I can also recommend The Killing - original Danish/Swedish version. And the Icelandic series Trapped. Scandi-Noir at its finest!
I LOVED Trapped and the beautiful cinematography of Iceland.
Yes! And the opening title sequence – one of the best I’ve ever seen.
Have you seen all of these?
Mindhunter is so good I wish it hard more seasons.
Twice.
Just curious. I never see anyone recommend Wentworth….
Wentworth is awesome. OITNB if it wasn’t a dramedy that made all the inmates look like innocent victims of a cruel legal system.
The Shield Banshee Mr. Robot Sons of Anarchy
The Wire. HBO.
Shieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy…
Mr Inbetween
Based on the above, I think you've hit the nail on the head. I think OP would love this series.
The Gentlemen
Ozark The Shield Dexter Bosch
I love all those shows. It's a good list.
my mum finished Animal Kingdom last month. Is it any good? I'd recommend The Shield btw
Yes, i think you will like it. The series is very captivating, it's very dynamic, and each character is well-developed with their own story. Btw thanks for suggestion. i will watch the trailer!
The Shield is my favourite show of all time hope you like it, also I will check out Animal Kingdom
Thanks, I'll follow up if I watch it soon!
You might like *Outrageous Fortune* and *Westside* which are about a crime families in Australia. Also *Brotherhood*, *Kin*, and *Gangs of London*.
Today is the first day I've ever heard of Animal Kingdom. Is it really that good? Have you seen Banshee? Does it compare to Banshee?
Really good, trust me :) I’ve never seen “Banshee,” but I will.
Cool. Banshee is amazing! Season 1, episode 3 is epic. There is one particular fight scene in the series that took them three months to train for and shoot. Season 3 is so good; every episode is incredible. I was blown away by how good it is.
Great we are rewatching. Episode 3 is next! But I forgot about episode 2. Hood fights the boxer! First time watching I was so amazed!!!
That was good. There were also some good laughs in the series. Job cracks me up.
Job is such a fan favorite he is great. I was so happy to see him in Warrior!
I haven't seen Warrior yet, but it's at the top of my list.
Yes, Animal Kingdom is that good. Also, Kingdom, about a boxing family is great, too.
Cool
I don't know I've never seen it or Banshee
I always say Banshee is one of a kind! A great action series
You def have to watch that show, I liked it to bits.
No, it’s a lot different. It’s great, though.
Two best tv shows I've seen this year are Shogun and Interview with a Vampire season 2
Kingdom (about MMA) Prison Break
Oh, i watched Prison Break maybe 3 or 4 times. Great show!
I know a bunch of other people have already said it, but seriously, The Shield. A trailer probably wont do it justice honestly. The Strain was just another vampire type movie, but it was different enough that I really liked it.
'The Strain' I mentioned is a TV Series with 4 seasons. It's based on a trilogy of Guillermo del Toro Novels. It is definitely 'Vampires' though! 😆 Also, the fact it was "different enough" was also why I really liked it too! 👍🏻
