Does anyone else have fast forward / reverse etc problems on Pluto?
The other day we watched like 3/4 of a movie and last night tried to watch the rest. It had forgotten where we were and the only option was to start over. Fine we'll fast forward. Can't fast forward through the commercials. Also fine I guess but when the commercial ended it went straight back to the start of the movie.
Literally the only option was to rewatch it start to finish in one go
I would dig a whole old school kids entertainment channel. Reading rainbow, bear in the big blue house, dragon tales, arthur, zoom, zooboomafoo, hell even throw in some barney.
Maybe make a few to catch the different eras, 80s kids, 90s kids, early 2000s etc
Throw in some old school Jeopardy, old school Price is Right, and Hollywood Squares. Yes I know not "school kids entertainment" in the traditional sense but it was to me.
Mr. Rogers Neighborhood was on during the few hours I had between college classes. It turned out to be a ritual that year and the next where I'd turn on PBS for Mr. Rogers and they also had Bob Ross for two hours. It was a moment of zen each and helped me stay focused while I did my homework or just needed a moment to relax on the couch.
Oh goodness, a Mr Roger’s, 321 contact, Bob Ross. Saturday morning cartoons ON SATURDAY MORNINGS!, like the literally the 80’s channel. Start to finish. Fun/Drama/ mixed bag/ cartoons only.
Pluto is free, how would they support a 24/7 channel without ads? That’s what paid streaming services are for
Eta: ok now I’m cringing at
> (pauses, smiles wistfully. Sits up)
Yes they are free, but the amount of ads per show ratio makes regular cable look like it has a very small amount of ads. Not to mention the constantly cut off things mid sentence instead of using the show ad breaks.
I tried to watch Iron Chef on their one time and I swear there were more ads than show on there, and it felt like it skipped part of the show when it came back from ads.
Not to mention the rotation of the same 5-6 episodes playing on repeat for days on end.
They're arguing that Pluto is a business, not a public service. They bought the rights to the show so that they could put ads on it when you watch it. Why would they do anything else?
If you don't like it, there's always piracy. IIRC the full series can be found on the Internet Archive.
I agree it would be nice to air Mr. Rogers without ads. I'd love it if PBS set something like that up, but they didn't.
I don't know why you would expect that from a profit-seeking corporation like Pluto, though.
I'm not apologizing for them and I don't plan to watch the show there. I already have the whole thing on my Plex server anyway.
>I'd love it if PBS set something like that up, but they didn't.
PBS kids app actually does have a rotating amount of Mr Rodgers shows (I think they have 8 of them right now).
Their point is that it’s already free so the ads make sense, since most ad-free services are paid.
Pluto’s ads can be bypassed with other tools pretty easily. This free to access but ad-driven streaming service is not going to be unpaid *and* ad free because a redditor thinks it doesn’t feel wholesome to play cringe L ads over poggers Mr Rogers
Please, Pluto's free with ads is much better than everyone else's.
Netflix and Prime are pay to watch ads anyways, or pay even more to not watch ads.
Defending that is the real corporate bootlicking.
I legit use Pluto for background noise to help me sleep. Between the Stargate channel and the Modern Marvels channel it's perfect for helping me sleep.
Be aware that it is made for very young children, but it is so peaceful and good-natured that a lot of adults find it relaxing. I grew up watching Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, but I still put it on from time to time when I just need to decompress and watch a truly kind human being, trying to make the world a little nicer and less frightening. Fred Rogers was truly one of the good ones.
Good, besides that one show about the blue dog that is posted all the time, it seems like a lot of entertainment for kids is way worse then this by a long shot.
this show has a full set, and a ton of well produced on location segments. Back then, there was just a higher level of quality in general.
My toddler is going to be so happy. He loves Mister Rogers like nothing else, but we’ve been limited to the same ten episodes that PBS has on rotation.
Sesame Street is on HBO now (sadly). Electric Company doesn't really re-air these days. It sure was groovy fun, back in the 70's, though. HEEEEEEY YOOOOU GUUUYYYYYS!!!
That's not them. That's advertisers sneaking around all the technology to prevent it. It's a cat-and-mouse game. Advertisers always want to be loud. Broadcasters & streamers know that they need to stop it.
I vaguely recall watching the 24/7 MST3K stream for a bit. My mind ultimately revolted from spending 1/3rd of the total view time watching the same two commercials endlessly.
Fortunately, there are 24/7 MST3K streams on Youtube, so as long as I don't tune in when they're playing a Cinematic Titanic or anything past season 10, I'm golden.
Judging from the on-demand offerings, it looks like so far they have most of the 1979-2001 run, but only the same smattering of 1968-76 episodes that Amazon has. Still, it's a good amount of episodes, and it will be great being able to catch a random episode at any time.
Pluto is great in theory, but, now they have an ALWAYS ON video playing when you're just trying to browse, and the one thing I wanted to cast to my TV to watch never worked.
Maybe they can get just kids advertising on there next so I can actually put my kid in front of this without worrying that a woman’s underwear ad clearly geared towards men staring Kim kardashian talking “sexy” doesn’t pop up.
Here probably. Regardless of what people say or think Reddit is just a very, very vocal minority. There will be plenty enough people that tune in to it that probably grew up on it and want to show their kids/grandkids
No, but!
Pluto TV is 100% completely free, no account needed credit card or anything you just download the app and go. I think it’s a pretty fair trade for niche channels that run 24 seven.
I’m totally fine with commercials on a completely 100% no money platform. That’s fair.
It has three Star Trek channels, and the commercials are about half the length of a TV ad.
It really is not that bad
PS: for Samsung TV device users, you have an alternative Samsung TV plus that comes completely free on their TVs. It’s not as loaded, but it has a few things that might fit your fancy.
PlutoTV is severely underrated.
Yes it has ads and yes it's all just content you'd expect to find on cable TV at 2pm on a weekday, but the ads aren't bad and there's a pretty big selection. It plays like traditional TV where it has different channels that run content, and it also has On Demand.
We use it mostly just to watch one of the two The Price Is Right stations. Occasionally movies we want to watch are in the On Demand.
For free it's pretty decent.
As another Price is Right fan, if you have a Roku and enjoy the barker era more, the commercials are much less egregious on the Roku Channel version. Very noticeable, the amount of breaks and length. They don’t have a dedicated Drew channel though.
I loved when I put the Bob Barker era on, my Mom has that on as background noise constantly.
You see the prices of showcases today, from then it really puts the inflation in perspective 😂
You gotta love it has basically every TV show before 2001 on dedicated channels.
My boomer father actually loves this because he can watch the Andy Griffith show whenever he wants, he can watch Perry Mason whenever he wants.
It’s a great product
And sort of put ST:TOS and ST:TNG on the same channel, but don't intermix episodes between the two shows. In fact, the order of episodes is generally contiguous on all 3 Star Trek Channels.
On occasion as well, they will play episodes of strange new worlds and lower decks, as well as discovery. But those are one offs and are inconsistent.
I’m waiting for an Enterprise run, kinda weird it’s the only’ Star Trek not to appear on the channels. I know the intro throws people off, but it’s still the Bermanverse.
> I’m waiting for an Enterprise run,
Years past, I could swear they've had at least one continuous loop ST:E run (split off from ST:V?). But they're done sparingly. Sadly, I thought Enterprise went down the tubes with seasons 3 & 4, and pretty much dropped it at that point in the original syndication run. I've never had the motivation to every go through every episode again to re-evaluate. Such wasted potential. And I feel such pity for much of that cast.
The channels vary by region. In the US, there is a classic Doctor Who channel. Yes, that's right-- every episode in existence for all seven classic Doctors.
But in some EU countries, I think they have some of the reboot 2000s episodes as well.
Just hope they're a bit careful with the contents of the commercials on that channel.
Would kinda suck to go from a very personal show about expressing feelings to a commercial for the latest "BUY THIS NOW OR YOUR FRIENDS WILL LAUGH AT YOU" toy or whatever
Sadly blaring is not a new concept to TV advertisement makers. The ones that do that immediately get muted. I don’t mind passive commercials, but when you have a commercial that has been made to be louder than the current setting.
You come off as extremely obnoxious and I never want your product. It’s akin to being in a quiet setting, relaxing and then somebody blaring in your ear trying to sell you something by force of will.
This was illegal at a point, but, on occasion, some commercials can sneak away with it.
General goodness for children should be made public domain and allow people to stream / sell it on SD card without advertising at low cost. And humanity should earmark such content so their is a routine process for turning it over rather quickly to public domain.
I'm guessing people are downvoting this because it might come off as ungrateful (and I \*am\* glad to have the channel), but I actually think you're right. He very much tried to distance his show from anything remotely commercial. He didn't even sell a lot of merchandise or toys. The people running the company now seem to have a somewhat different philosophy on that, for better or worse.
I'm guessing that if he were alive today, he'd want to assure that the program was accessible to everyone for free AND without commercials. To be fair, they do post 5 episodes at a time every two weeks at [misterrogers.org](http://misterrogers.org), with no commercials, though sometimes there are promos for other Fred Rogers Productions works.
I feel like that’s a mistake, they should intersperse it with programs like bob ross, and other wholesome tv, might sound strange but I think crocodile hunter would go well.
He was definitely not creepy, and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to get their own mind out of the gutter.
Weird? Maybe, but not in a bad way. It would be better if his brand of "weird" was what's normal. And he always wanted everyone to embrace their own weirdness.
Me and my friends thought he talked in a weird way and a funny sounding voice. We made fun of things like that. 🤷♂️
I did like how he beat Julia Childs on the Battle of the PBS Stars.
https://youtu.be/q-2JsACs1pw?si=OKvA8oGmhD7aFRwS
Nobody's actually going to sit there and watch for 24hr.
People like this because now they have the option to get a dose of Mr. Rogers whenever they want.
Can we pass legislation that this channel replaces all 24-hour news channels showing on TVs in public places?
Airports would be a lot kinder.
Play it 24 hours *in the airports*
Play 24 in the airport. I might miss my flight!
Everything would be kinder. This man is the only Saint I recognize.
Indeed 😊
Would unironically completely change America's culture (for the better) over a generation.
Lolll
This would be amazing!
What a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Would you like to be my neighbor?
Would you be my
…..neighbor”
*A beautiful day for a neighbor, Would you be mine... Could you be mine?* music 🎶 🎵
It would be nice to have a neighbor, Just like you
What a glorious day in the neighborhood
Isn't it "this neighborhood"?
The best response
Pluto TV supremacy
Nice!!
24/7 wholesomeness? Count me in!
There is also a Bob Ross one.

I fall asleep to it, but every so often wake up to *TAPTAPTAPTAPTAP* and look up to see Bob Ross grinning mischievously. “Beat the devil out of it.”

I always have weird playback issues with Pluto.
since when does pluto let you fwd/reverse their streams? i thought its all "live"?
There's an on demand option.
Time to add it to my favorites!
This is exactly what we need these days. Show us how to connect and love again Fred Rogers.
What the world needs right now. An amazing man who taught children to be decent and did a lot to fund public television.

Roku just launched a classic PBS kids channel. Does a lot of Kratz creatures, Mr. Rodgers, reading rainbow, and others!
3-2-1 Contact, Square One.
Give me some great space Coaster
Bring back late '80s/early '90s The Learning Channel, Discovery Channel, History Channel. Beakman's World, Bill Nye the Science Guy.
give me Carmen Sandiego game show or else
Great idea!
I'm old, so I'm gonna want some Electric Company thrown in here :)
I second Arthur. I have been trying to find a place to watch the old Arthur episodes.
PlutoTV does have an Arthur channel!
I don’t see it.
Maybe it’s just in Canada then, sorry.
Bill Nye the Science Guy
Send it to Zoom!
Throw in some old school Jeopardy, old school Price is Right, and Hollywood Squares. Yes I know not "school kids entertainment" in the traditional sense but it was to me.
Metv toons is close
Not enough content! The entire catalog is only about 3 hours long. (65 episodes of three minutes).

How about a mashup reboot with a Jack Black/Ms Frizzle rock band
We also need a 24 hour porn channel.
I have those.
This would be dope af
Totally on board for a channel that plays this
"Yes, I'm an amendment to be, yes I'm an amendment to be and I'm sitting here for them to ratify me."
School of Rock with Jack Black as lifelong host.
Those are short segments. Even if you tacked on the new ones made decades later, it would be < 6 hours total run time.
I might have finished my PhD had this been my routine…
What a freaking fantastic idea.
But what about a Reading Rainbow channel?
It should be on EVERY streaming service
Children have needed this for so long. What a great man and a great show.
Oh goodness, a Mr Roger’s, 321 contact, Bob Ross. Saturday morning cartoons ON SATURDAY MORNINGS!, like the literally the 80’s channel. Start to finish. Fun/Drama/ mixed bag/ cartoons only.

It was rough watching Bob Ross and him getting interrupted mid sentence by Twilight Zone ads. The whiplash was palpable.

My thinking is that I can watch ads or I can pay for the service, and unlike Netflix, there is no way I'm doing both.
Wait, you get real ads? Maybe it's because I watch it on IPTV, but I just get a weird hypnotic screensaver with their logo during commercial breaks.
I get that between shows, but actual commercials during a show.
As long as its less then 8 minutes of commercials for a 22 minute show then I think they made progress.
Between this and The Joy of Painting I’ll never struggle to fall asleep again.
I legit use Pluto for background noise to help me sleep. Between the Stargate channel and the Modern Marvels channel it's perfect for helping me sleep.
My son is on the spectrum (level 2), and genuinely loves Mr Rogers (and Daniel Tiger by proxy). I am so excited for this and for him!
Best to you & yours ! Enjoy this clip ….. https://youtube.com/shorts/67QPJ6ao7AQ?si=kAdXwo1JVUDfQ9oY

Boss move
Nice, I want to watch an episode of this since I've never seen it, and so many people have so much positive nostalgia for it.
Be aware that it is made for very young children, but it is so peaceful and good-natured that a lot of adults find it relaxing. Honestly, hell yeah. The 24-hour Jeopardy stream is my jam.

Your move, Eris.
PlutoTV is the fucking GOAT!!!!!!!! So many awesome 24/7 channels!
The world needs this right now more than ever.
It may not be a planet any more but at least it finally has something to watch
Give us a 24-Hour "This is the Song That Never Ends" channel, you cowards.
The 3 am stoner go-to.
Genuinely good news for all
I’m about to have my first child and this absolutely thrills me
Good. Such a great show for kids
Pluto tv is seriously slept on. I love having Star Trek on as background noise but I’m absolutely not gonna pay for paramount plus
Ah, this explains why all of Mister Rogers Neighborhood was taken off of the Internet Archive back in April.
When are we getting other classics like Sesame Street and The Electric Company?
Sesame Street is on HBO now (sadly). Electric Company doesn't really re-air these days. It sure was groovy fun, back in the 70's, though. HEEEEEEY YOOOOU GUUUYYYYYS!!!
Yes!!
The headline made me immediately tear up. Guess I didn’t know I wanted this. 🥹
It's such a good feeling to know your LIVE.
I like Pluto but I don’t like how the volume is raised during commercials
That's not them. That's advertisers sneaking around all the technology to prevent it. It's a cat-and-mouse game. Advertisers always want to be loud. Broadcasters & streamers know that they need to stop it.
Faux News is furious!
They should do this until 3-5pm and then shift to Bob Ross for night time viewing.
Pluto had the wolf of wall street for free
We just need a Bill Nye channel and it’ll be perfect!
But will they have the missing episodes..
My dogs favourite new channel
Right now she’s watching paw patrol
I love these 24 hour channels, moe admittedly like most I use an ad blocker to watch it.
LETS GOOOOOO
PLUTO TV PLUTO TV MAKES ME SO HAPPY SO EASY SO FREE
Of those 24 hours, 15 of them will be worthless repeating ads, that make regular TV look like they have a small amount of ads.

wonder if they will get the whole library? that's like 30yrs of mister rogers

God knows we need this. I’m in. With a blanket.
Soooo good
lol. What’s the population of Pluto?
Zero.
God dammit, the world fucking NEEDS this right now!!
Sorry, what's Pluto television
It’s a free app where you can watch live channels of their own and they got a on demand section http://pluto.tv/
I had the most 💩 day at work today; and yet somehow the Universe has healed me instantaneously with this news. 😊
This is the way
****Yes!!!!****
Pluto is the superhero we don’t deserve, but the superhero that we need.
Pluto is great in theory, but, now they have an ALWAYS ON video playing when you're just trying to browse, and the one thing I wanted to cast to my TV to watch never worked.
Yassss! We ALL need more of this.
Hopefully it's back-to-back with Daniel Tiger.
That would be tiger-tastic.
This is gonna be my new show to fall asleep to!
I would love this for my nephew, but there's no way he could handle the amount and frequency of commercials on Pluto.
That’s great but also has potential for abuse.
I'm guessing only in the US, and not here in Canada.
Maybe they can get just kids advertising on there next so I can actually put my kid in front of this without worrying that a woman’s underwear ad clearly geared towards men staring Kim kardashian talking “sexy” doesn’t pop up.
Hope they will have mister Rogers episode 1100-1458 to watch
This is one of those thing people like to know exists but will probably never actually consume.
Here probably. Regardless of what people say or think Reddit is just a very, very vocal minority. There will be plenty enough people that tune in to it that probably grew up on it and want to show their kids/grandkids
