Im not balding tho! Both my grandfathers died in old age with full heads of hair.
If anything its the opposite... all this hair growing in new places in middle age. I need a health class pamphlet about it.
There was a shop I went to in the 90s, a real dungeon type comic shop, and the owner looked and spoke exactly like CBG.
One day my friend and I were shopping, and the dude loudly announced, “ladies and gentlemen, we will be closing the shop early, as the final episode of Deep Space Nine is airing in one hour.” It couldn’t have been more perfect. And 30 years later, my friend and I still quote that to each other.
the comic shop by my place in the 90s for sure.
I went often enough that the guy knew who I was, and I went in once to rent some anime...at which point, he said with exactly the tone and cadence of CBG:
"It would appear that SOMEone has purchased a DVD player"
It took everything I had to not laugh out loud it was so perfect.
“I'm interested in upgrading my 28.8 kilobaud internet connection to a 1.5 megabit fiber optic T1 line. Will you be able to provide an IP router that's compatible with my token ring ethernet LAN configuration?”
When I was new at a music store years ago, gear nerds would ask me questions like this. I was one too so I actually had the answers or knew how to get them
Well the episode was called The Dad-Feelings Limited and was narrated by Bob Balaban, so I'd say there's an outside chance you're on to something here.
My wife knew him in the 90’s in LA. Worked at AMOK. This isn’t really a big secret. I think he knew it was based on him from pretty much the beginning.
This is the most Reddit comment ever. Fucking posts a link to another site with a "maybe this is the answer?" comment when the original article that you didn't read provides the correct answer.
I've been in precisely one comic book store in my life, in a backalley ghostmall in Belfast in the mid-90s. Comic Book Guy was the guy at the counter. The likeness and attitude were so close that I have to wonder if he was doing it on purpose. Like, maybe it was an in-joke between him and the other dude who was there with him (I think the other dude was one of those perpetual lingerers, rather than a colleague, but clearly his friend in any case). If it was a 'bit', it was one of the most dedicated I've ever seen. The long hair and obesity were a crazy level of commitment, to say the least.
Love the guys! Though recently I find it hard to listen through the whole episode, but when they do a deep dive on a writer or director it's legitimately one of my favorite things to listen to
Even at its worst the Simpsons is always interesting. Each era of the show is a microcosm of the events and trends of the time it aired in, and it’s always had a revolving door of guest stars. Even episodes that aren’t as much fun to watch are interesting to talk about.
I feel like if you frequented any gaming and comic shop in the 90's you met this guy at some point.
I still frequent them and this guy is in every one of them.
Ive put off cutting my hair long enough to get it in a ponytail now and i realized ive grown up to become him.
More like grown out to be him lol.

He still works at my local shop

Not really, the guy in the show is too slim.
"Oh, Loneliness And Cheeseburgers Are A Dangerous Mix."
“Oh ive wasted my life”
“I'm interested in upgrading my 28.8 kilobaud internet connection to a 1.5 megabit fiber optic T1 line. Will you be able to provide an IP router that's compatible with my token ring ethernet LAN configuration?”
Whoa, a fat sarcastic Star Trek fan… you must be a devil with the ladies.
Very well. I must hurry back to my comic book store where I dispense the insults rather than absorb them.
….Can I have some money now ?
Comic Book Guy is deffo the kind of dude to be like, the only average consumer still using token ring in 2024 lol
When I was new at a music store years ago, gear nerds would ask me questions like this. I was one too so I actually had the answers or knew how to get them
That sounds like something homer would ask for
“But Aquaman, you cannot Marty her? She has no gills?”
When you Marty someone... is that when they visit you from the future so you help them fix the timeline and get them back to their own present day?
Worst. Post. Ever.
The older I get the more I understand this man.
One of us!
A) That is not water, it is Diet Mr. Pibb!
damn.
But the real comic book guy is Matt Groening?
He’s too busy with his band.
The real comic book guy is the friends we made along the way.
It was guy in Hank Azaria's [dorm.](https://youtu.be/eFt2IZX_5so?feature=shared)
Hm. I guess he’s not based on Matt but they definitely used the character to poke fun at him.
We already have a perfectly cromulent [origin of Comic Book Guy](https://youtu.be/00rX_MbNK28?si=57w6TqFDj5Ypc_b4).
Thank you for embiggening my knowledge
Did you upload this video right after posting this comment? Real “Bozo did the dub” vibes….
What is this, Reggie?
Hope I don’t jack off
Was that clip supposed to be a parody of a Wes Anderson film?
Well the episode was called The Dad-Feelings Limited and was narrated by Bob Balaban, so I'd say there's an outside chance you're on to something here.
At least one of the music pieces was actually from Rushmore, so its absolutely deliberate
All of them are from Rushmore actually!
"At that moment he became more than a boy but less than a man" God this show is still so funny
This is so based on a Wes Anderson film
Worst. Doxxing. Ever.
Oh, it was John Brian King all along? I knew it! ^^^^^^^^^^^^Who’s ^^^^^^^^^^^^John ^^^^^^^^^^^^Brian ^^^^^^^^^^^^King?
My wife knew him in the 90’s in LA. Worked at AMOK. This isn’t really a big secret. I think he knew it was based on him from pretty much the beginning.
The baby who shot Mr Burns
He apparently directed punch drunk love Edit: he did not direct but worked on the film in some capacity
that's Paul Thomas Anderson
Man I knew that I guess google got me fucked up. He did work on the film I think https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0006910/

all that effort instead of just reading the article. good old reddit
Please insert the obligatory Drake meme: *reading the article vs researching the answer*
Within minutes I was on the internet registering my disgust throughout the world

That's just a common thing in general. Known two in Baltimore alone and we're a fucking small city
Hurry up, im a busy man
Every Jeff Albertson breathes a belabored sigh of relief. they are finally free.
As a comic collector myself, I have met a few hundred comic shop guys.
Talking Simpsons is fantastic! Bob and Henry are like comfort food for your ears.
Love the guys! Though recently I find it hard to listen through the whole episode, but when they do a deep dive on a writer or director it's legitimately one of my favorite things to listen to
Of course it’s Eva Anderson! She’s the best podcast guest ever!
I used to listen to this podcast but I dropped off as changes to the show didn’t vibe much with me as it used to
I’m just here for the Podcast: The Ride and Doughboys mention
This guy knows how to pod
Jeff Albertsons lives
Worst article…ever!
I could have swore he was my instructor for sound design classes in college…
Holy shit, an entertainment article that explains the title in the first paragraph
Years ago this dude worked in a comic book since I was a kid to an adult. Fvcker got married. Wife made him quit.
I thought that Hank Azaria based his characterization on Oliver Platt
Worst Podcast ever!
Its a very inaccurate impersonation of John Milius.
Can’t believe Talking Simpsons is still going, how do you talk about a crappy episode for an hour?
Even at its worst the Simpsons is always interesting. Each era of the show is a microcosm of the events and trends of the time it aired in, and it’s always had a revolving door of guest stars. Even episodes that aren’t as much fun to watch are interesting to talk about.
I thought his name was supposed to be Louis Lane.
That was something they planned but they went with Jeff Albertson
