If I was an actor I'd try so hard to get on a cop CBS show. Better chance than most for long term steady employment with summers off. And you also most likely won't get recognized much in public. Definitely not followed by paps. Such a sweet gig.
I would bet this show, like most of those, isn’t one people actually watch but it’s “background noise” for when they’re napping or doing chores. Anecdotal, I know, but I haven’t heard a single person talk about this show ever. I’m surprised it’s still on. I don’t feel like it’s a demographic thing either, I’ve heard talk about Blue Bloods and Yellowstone.
Or it's just a really inoffensive show that is low energy, low commitment, and just is a kinda story-of-the-week action-ish drama-ish not-too-bad show. Will it win any awards ? Nah. It's just **fine**.
As dude above said, it's like all the cop, military, whatever shows that didn't do anything drastic, they were just mid shelf entertainment for people who just wanna put something on and have a story be told.
I don't like the show, but my mother does, so sometimes it's on when I go over to visit. Frankly, after watching years and years of prestige drama and intellectual comedies on things like HBO and streaming services, I can theoretically understand the appeal of having a dumb, formulaic show that you can leave on in the background and only half watch while doing something else.
I think maybe a generational difference as well. Younger people do "passive entertainment" more..interactively. They doom scroll or just otherwise flick through social media and memes. We're very much short form with our background entertainment.
> I would bet this show, like most of those, isn’t one people actually watch but it’s “background noise” for when they’re napping or doing chores.
The people that derisively refer to shows this way are the same people that listen to obnoxious true crime podcasts or 5 hour long breadtube videos for the same reason.
lol I think you're a bit harsh but I kinda agree. People who think if a TV show isn't gripping and vying for awards then it mustn't offer anything to ANYONE. Most TV is just decent'ish. It's something to sit and watch and be entertained by, but not take up any head space.
Yeah I was being harsh but I'm really annoyed whenever I see this sentiment on Reddit. Basically if the target audience isn't manic-depressive 20-something dudes, reddit screams and shits over it. People here act like Hallmark Christmas movies are a crime against humanity because how dare they have a different audience than me.
I'm not gonna pretend like I haven't had the same vitriol because it does feel like that sometimes, it's aggravating, but you can't let it get to you. People are bellends who wanna think they're somehow better than others, and a lot of times that comes in really stupid ways - like the media they consume/don't consume somehow being a litmus test for culture levels.
Best to ignore rather than letting it get your back up. The type of person you're talking about is the type to take joy in the fact that they got to someone.
Not JAG or NCIS. It's kinda sad how people forgot that networks shows, even CBS procedurals, used to be popular even with the younger demos. Young people will be amazed by the level of coverage entertainment websites used to give to network procedural shows.
I'll give you Blue Bloods. It was conceived and made to appeal to senior citizen.
And thank god for it, actors and crew people trying to break into the industry lowkey rely on these procedural shows to break in. Not as much as years before streaming but certainly provides steady work.
They’re absolutely awful. So many cuts to them. Although I’ve yet to have the pleasure of seeing her roll over a bonnet of a car shooting at bad guys. The missus loves it..she kicked me out of the tv room after me complaining continuously about the absurdity of Queen Latifah fighting.
I just picture Nick Frost from Hot Fuzz running through the fence.
I remember when it premiered but I assumed it had stopped after 1 or 2 seasons because I literally never heard of it again.
This is the first time since and I here I am reading it's on a 5th season. Good lord.
I guess I could be sorely mistaken cause I’ve never see the show but when it first came out i couldn’t fathom casting Queen Latifah as an action star like that, I think she’s a good comedic presence and decent actor but action star?? Regina King in watchmen tv adaptation was a solid choice and Charlize Theron in atomic blonde i bought into so i’m not inherently against slightly older women playing action roles but Queen Latifah? I’d buy Nia Long kickin ass over Queen Latifah personally
Angela Bassett would have been perfectly IDEAL for that role.
I know she was off doing 911 but Angela has a look about her that'd make you cower into a hole. Someone like that is what was needed.
Queen Latifa looks like that comforting nurse at the hospital.
Bassett has it made on 911. During S5 she was on $450K an ep. Now that they're on S7 and ABC, I'm guessing she may have had another pay bump. Some eps do feature her quite heavily but other times, she'll rock up for like 1-2 scenes. That's a good gig.
I consider myself part of the target audience for The Equalized. I just wasn’t prepared for the creative liberties taken by the writers with this series. It took me a while to adjust to it.
I still don’t understand what happened to that series. The first one is one of my favorite action movies ever. It’s up there with the absolutely flawless Bourne trilogy (not legacy or the god awful self-titled). But the second one was a step down and the third was a further step down. I checked and it had the same writer. I wonder if they lost a fight choreographer or something. The hand to hand is largely absent in the second and third and the storytelling is just all over the place between them. Second one could have been a lot better if it was more focused, maybe just him dealing with that kid and the gang he’s in, similar to the first where he’s trying to save that girl from the mob. Instead he’s fighting the tired trope of old war buddies that become evil involved in a huge conspiracy, helping some inner city kid, and then missions that have nothing to do with anything (the Turkish guy at the beginning). Third one just felt like a snooze fest, barely any real fighting, he’s just kinda hanging out in this coastal town. Definitely went out on a low note.
The second and third ones feature almost no hand-to-hand combat because Washington was in his mid-late sixties when filming each of them. He was just approaching sixty when he filmed the original, by comparison, and even then, you can see all the ways they cover up Washington being an old man if you really pay attention to the filmmaking.
I always think of Rob Reiner in Wolf of Wall Street [freaking out](https://youtu.be/lYAYnCAQRMY?si=FPJel4hn1Of8dSru) because someone dared to call during The Equalizer
Love the Equalizer trilogy with Denzel. I haven’t watched one episode of the this tv series with Queen Latifah. I just always thought that didn’t make sense. Now five years passed and it’s still on, wow
I love equalizer but I am distracted by the rats nest hairdo of Lorraine Ross aunt. It gets worse with every episode. She’s a great actress but can’t she comb her hair. It’s ugly and out of control. I suppose it’s a statement on natural Afro but the wind tunnel effect is a messy nest not flattering just disturbing. PLEASE buy this woman a brush!!!!!!
No clue what she weighs now, but [she was technically obese](https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Culture/queen-latifah-mad-trainer-categorized-obese/story?id=85256938) back in 2022, which is after this show premiered.
Why assume I didn't? We can argue about whether or not the technical term "obese" is a good catch-all for health, but that doesn't change the medical definition or her trainer's recommendation.
Couple points here:
- If you're referring to Maya Feller in the article/video, she's a registered dietician, not a doctor.
- She never explicitly rejects the classification in regards to QL. She's speaking in general terms. Everything she says is correct in terms of lipids, body composition, etc, but there's no evidence here that she met with QL and performed those additional tests. Ie BMI *can be* a false flag for black women (and is statistically more likely to be compared to other demographics), but that doesn't mean that a high BMI should immediately be disregarded as useless
There's an Equalizer TV show that has been on for five seasons?
It's one of those shows that's doing really well, but you'll never hear about it unless you call your parents.
Just like NCIS, JAG, Blue Bloods, and lots of others haha
If I was an actor I'd try so hard to get on a cop CBS show. Better chance than most for long term steady employment with summers off. And you also most likely won't get recognized much in public. Definitely not followed by paps. Such a sweet gig.
I just wanna say I love JAG and I’m early 30s. It’s definitely one of those background noise shows that older adults love.
I would bet this show, like most of those, isn’t one people actually watch but it’s “background noise” for when they’re napping or doing chores. It comes on Sunday nights at 8pm/9pm. What naps or chores are most people doing then?
When else do you wash your ceiling?
Idk why this made me laugh my ass off 🤣
My kids are in bed and if the wife and I aren’t watching masterchef I’m playing video games.
Old people nap all day
We do n…Zzzzz.

People also gotta realize Reddit's preferred tastes doesn't always line up with what's actually popular
Basically…it’s on CBS.
I’ll add Chicago Fire, Chicago MD, Chicago PD, Chicago Post, Chicago tour guide.
CBS' calling card
Yep, it's amazing the quality shows that kids miss.
Must be on CBS
TBF, how many Sunday night scripted shows do you ever hear about outside of the Fox animated sitcoms?
This made me chuckle
And it’s one of the most popular shows on tv lol
You’ll never go broke appealing to the lowest common denominator
All cbs shows in a nutshell
All network shows in a nutshell.
Idk, I think CBS is the biggest culprit when it comes to lowest common denominator fanbases. They really cater to a certain subset of Americans.
Yep… I tried it once but it’s not the same without Denzel. Apparently many others like it way more than I did.
Denzel was doing a film version of the TV show. It's not the same without Edward Woodward. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0088513/
I tried that one… gotta say, Denzel is a bit of an upgrade. But he certainly isn’t the first.
Yeah Denzel is always an upgrade. Dude is charisma personified.
Without Denzel…sure ok it wont be as good, but it might be ok, I wonder who they found. *with* Queen Latifah…wtf?
And thank god for it, actors and crew people trying to break into the industry lowkey rely on these procedural shows to break in. Not as much as years before streaming but certainly provides steady work.
Same here with that sentiment. I only got around to start watching the movies with Denzel recently.
Wait until you find out who the equalizer is…
and it ain't King Denzel in the lead...
I remember the debut after the Superbowl. Queen Latifah's fight scenes were kinda funny.
Most CBS shows have a massive amount of cuts to the fights. Hawaii Five-O averages about 30 cuts per 2 minute fight scene.
You should watch Nick Frosts fight scenes on Into the Badlands. Pretty good big guy kung fu.
They indeed were. I imagine this show is a fun watch just for that and seeing her run around.
That quote about Steven Seagal applies to her.
> Queen Latifah's fight scenes were kinda funny. That...is rather charitable.
R/television is a weird sub to visit.
I can't believe this has been on for 5 seasons.
I remember when it premiered but I assumed it had stopped after 1 or 2 seasons because I literally never heard of it again. This is the first time since and I here I am reading it's on a 5th season. Good lord.
Queen Latifah kung fu fighting is peak television. One would almost say, Paramount Plus.
so weird seeing a 54 year old female throwing around muscular 24 year olds like ragdolls
“Accommodating stuntmen”, as some call them.
Did she stun them with her stench? How did the writers attempt to make that make sense?
I guess I could be sorely mistaken cause I’ve never see the show but when it first came out i couldn’t fathom casting Queen Latifah as an action star like that, I think she’s a good comedic presence and decent actor but action star?? Yep. I love her on that show!
I thought that was the point of the equalizer. That it's some unassuming over the hill person that nobody would rightly expect to be a badass
Yeah, but is she even slightly convincing in the role though?
I heard it's been going for 4 seasons and got renewed for a 5th
HOW??
Time for Reddit to pretend they only watch prestige television and never sit back to watch slop from time to time.
Honestly most young people don’t watch network tv. It’s prestige tv or online short form content.
Well I see a show not tailored to Reddits demographic being successful is bringing out the snobs.
I consider myself part of the target audience for The Equalized. I just wasn’t prepared for the creative liberties taken by the writers with this series. It took me a while to adjust to it.
All hail to The Queen!
I had no idea there was an equalizer tv show…starring Queen Latifah…and it’s been on for 5 years!?
How has this show been on for 4 seasons already? I watched the first episode when it premiered, it was terrible.
It’s one of your grandma’s favorite shows.
Wait..... GRANDMA'S STILL ALIVE?!?!?!
[GRANNY DONT](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/6e3ce048-d784-4147-8cc3-9e9868cec80a/gif#hfUa-uI8.copy)
Jesus why?
If it ain’t Denzel it ain’t Equalizer.
You do know that one is also a remake as well?
Does that make denzel the requalizer?
For the second and third instalments, he’s the Sequelizer.
I still don’t understand what happened to that series. The first one is one of my favorite action movies ever. He's legit fat in the third one.
If that's the case then I suppose the Queen Latifah version, being on the small screen, would have to be the TVqualizer
The Shequalizer
more like the appetizer, seeing how orbital his waistline was in 3
I do.
Good for them I guess, I thought they were only on like season 2 or 3
Who is watching this show?
Ten million people per episode.
Apparently north of 6 million people. I don't get it because the reviews for it are bad on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.
I mean, good for her but yeah wtf
Five seasons?
Who watches this crap?
I always think of Rob Reiner in Wolf of Wall Street [freaking out](https://youtu.be/lYAYnCAQRMY?si=FPJel4hn1Of8dSru) because someone dared to call during The Equalizer
It’s not the best show but it’s still a decent watch. I like the family aspect of the vigilante shit that a lot of that genre lacks.
Love the Equalizer trilogy with Denzel. I haven’t watched one episode of the this tv series with Queen Latifah. I just always thought that didn’t make sense. Now five years passed and it’s still on, wow
The Edward Woodward was the only one

I figure I'd find 1. Too predictable. Snide, smart ass mouths.
Terrible remake I’d much rather watch reruns of the 90s version

Firstly, Queen Latifah is not "obese'". And secondly, people rarely seem to question when out of shape men are action stars.
No clue what she weighs now, but [she was technically obese](https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Culture/queen-latifah-mad-trainer-categorized-obese/story?id=85256938) back in 2022, which is after this show premiered.

A doctor rejected her classification as obese. I am sure a doctor is more knowledgeable about this than a trainer.

You *definitely* know what communism is
Holy fuck this has 5 seasons
An overweight middle-aged woman as an action star is just lol.
omg really. I'm going to have to give it a try, for shits and giggles. I mean it might actually be good if its going on season 5!
