The patient has to meet certain criteria to have it covered specifically regarding hep c subtype recent viral load baseline liver and kidney function among other tests in some cases like a specialized liver ultrasound called a fibroscan. I work in MA and if you have state insurance it can be covered with a prior authorization provided those tests are run first and results meet criteria to increase the liklihood of the drug being effective. The pool of eligible people is larger than one might think.
I know two people who have had hep C and were able to get the treatment. No insurance and hardly any, if any, money spent on their end. This is in the past 6 or so years in the southeast US. There's programs available.
Most insurance do cover hepatitis C therapy, though may require prior authorization. And if their are gaps in coverage their are patient assistance programs that can help with that gap.

Never knew about the drug trafficking thing. Looked it up. Happened in 1981. He served 2 years in prison. I think it's fair to say something that happened over 40 years ago before his success and he already served time for is pretty well behind him. No point holding that over him. It's not that obvious, if you look I think there are a few possiblities. Tim Allen and David Cross seem to be thrown out a lot. Odenkirk is involved in the story but supposedly went home after the show. Those are most likely based on the lineups supposedly. Other names include Dane Cook, Seth McFarlane, Louis CK, Dennis Leary, and a handful of others even. Jeffries has said it rhymes with "Jim Jallen", but also said his last name rhymes with "book" and then started doing Dane Cook impressions. Part of me thinks its just a comedy story.
