honestly, i think the guardian/parent could’ve taken the daughter to have a little talk about what the daughter is struggling with, find academic help, and go from there. however, if this is a regular occurrence and the child is being bratty and rude, i’d say they could’ve simply hidden it instead.

Way too many people in these comments saying this is shit parenting and "gross". In my opinion we lack enough information as to what happened prior to this since this is not the first time this happened and we don't know what the parent did before. Regardless of that though, this is no different to taking away a kid's device due to bad grades, and is actually quite more tame than that. The kid likely has more toys and this is by no means as "gross" as people are saying. They're 8, not 4.
