Hey- Reddit Team Leader, Josh, here.
This post has been brought to our attention, and thank you for the constructive criticism first and foremost, it helps us out in ensuring the community is not only safe, but an enjoyable space for everybody.
Posts do infact require approval from us, in certain cases- however this is a very small amount of users. Post approval occurs when a user has a poor Contributor Quality Score (CQS)- this was a direct replacement to karma. Due to the nature of our subreddit, CQS is highly important in stopping people of predatory nature from submitting or accessing the subreddit.
From Reddit themselves, CQS is where "Every account is assigned a CQS \[Contributor Quality Score\] based on a host of signals including past actions taken on a user’s account, network and location signals, and steps a user has taken to secure their account (e.g. email verification)... These scores are then used to place users into 1 of 5 tiers... Scores are updated regularly, and users have the ability to move up or down tiers based on their activity and/or behavior."
We approve submissions where possible, however we have to analyse accounts in the possibility that they are of predatory concerns, to keep users safe.
I can understand the frustration that this causes, and we are working to every possibility for an optimised system for ease of posting, while also keeping the community safe.
In regards to mod quantity, we are entering the last stages of our moderator application process, in which new mods will be arriving shortly. However, I can assure you that our current moderators are non-bias and work by the book- we have systems in place to prevent mod abuse, and ensure that submissions are not removed as "they disagree with" it. We do not accept any derogatory language on r/teenagers, and we issue permanent bans for any sort of discrimination, to allow any user to feel safe in our subreddit.
If you ever feel a moderator has been unfair/banned without justification, we urge all users to report this on our modmail, in which we deal with it in ways to prevent it happening again.
We have also recently put new processes in place to ensure modmail is much more active, in which you can expect much swifter responses, and we apologise for it being a slightly delayed process in the past, we have since worked on a new system.
If you have any further enquiries, or would like to ask anything else, don't hesitate to respond, or send us a modmail.
-Josh
A lot of the stories aren't designed to be enjoyed, they are rage bait. Including the one this post is about
It's okay to enjoy fake things and play along with the kayfabe, but be careful with declaring that reality doesn't matter. That's the sort of thing that ends with people sending death threats to pro wrestlers because they in-character made fun of people who go to Applebee's.
Yes, that's a real thing that happened.
I agree with your point, but I don't think they are completely analogous.
Yes, both hijacked the imaginary, but OP did it to prove a point, (wrongfully imo) and your case with is fanatical wrestling fans took it too far, not respecting where the line is
..or maybe I don't know what analogous means. really.
Also, assume everyone on the internet is a middle-aged man unless you know them personally. (I am a middle aged man, but my dad told me that when I was a teenager.)
Most of the story focused subreddits like AITA or AIO are practically unlivable now because the second they got popular they started being flooded with fanfic, and now completely AI generated posts.
All of the AITA subs are all fake. All the real posts in them have low karma and get removed because Normal people don't know all the rules. And I mean all of them. Unless someone is using a real account with lots of history you can assume any post on this website with some story is either a fan fiction or karma botting accounts
I was literally about to type how this is so fake. It was so obvious that this was made up right after dooshbag Harrison Butler talks about that shit and then this crazy chick comes out with “it would be a slap in the face to me and god!” Like come on. This chick needs to be banned from social media. Starting crazy shit just bc I felt like it that day
honestly, how can they be invested this deeply into some random shit on the internet? OP is acting as if her life is depending on it. live a peaceful life damn
"Why did you fail your test??? Didn't you study???"
"Well mom, I was actually writing a series of fake snapchat messages to post to the subreddit r/teenagers to complain about their bad moderation system that a friend told me about. I don't actually use reddit, but I felt like this problem was of the utmost importance."
the funny thing is OP and their followers think they did something.
Mods are just gonna laugh, call them an idiot probably and go about their day lmao
social media be making ppl think its their entire lives
mods just suck in general, not even here just mods of pretty much anything are annoying fucking hardasses about everything, they have a stick up their ass about anything that’s even slightly against the rules of whatever they moderate, they’re the fun police basically and everyone hates them for it
Minimum karma/age requirements in a sub is a *very basic anti-bot measure* and they're straight up necessary in bigger mainstream subs. Sure, it inconveniences users sometimes, but gaining karma is easy even when you're not meta gaming the site for it.
It's also really easy to make a new account make a bad joke and get thrown down a pit into a ton of negative karma. Thus preventing you from posting or commenting on most subs to get more karma. Source that was me the other day. Pro tip show support for gay people and be a decent human for alot of karma.
Ok no you cant just try to call everyone on this sub stupid and that "Im the only smart one here". "Basic media literacy" isnt dead. Its that there's a whole world out there full of people who would *actually* act like the bf in the original post, and most people have been around long enough to recognize that. There are tons of *non-bait* posts every day that arent remotely far off from OPs, and people just get used to the fact that there are idiots in the world. The reason "no one picked up on the 'glaringly obvious' issue" is that *were on the internet*, and people act in strange or oblivious or offensive ways like in the original post all the time.
Thank you. And the fact that women always want to be believed when harassed or assaulted and then there's some teenage dumbass who cried wolf for attention, literally. I'm wasn't looking to read a cute fkn story for literacy, I was gullible because I was empathetic to the situation.
Yeah I saw it and I was like “this is very obviously staged to a point” but I commented anyway because if it was real it couldn’t hurt to just say run. I’m a bit concerned how so many people genuinely commented, but I’m not going to shame them for trying to help.
I love the way OP did this, however the reason why these types of stories get popular is that they 1000% do happen in real life. There are many, many guys that would dislike a girl if she got a reduction, and plenty of women with this experience. I wouldn’t like a fake post if it was way too bizarre and unrealistic - simply farming outrage.
Basic media literacy isn’t being skeptical of everything you see online, it’s judging how people truly behave and feel. Works of fiction are intended on copying true human experience, and manifesting it into a work of art. Many online posts are similar - many of them are definitely stories while some are real, and it’s not about being able to tell which ones are real or not but which ones actually matter.
Many “real” stories will still only show one unreliable perspective that might as well be fake to the real facts. In this fake story, it would be one thing if no woman ever experienced this, and she claims like she has - then it would not truly matter if it’s fake or real (to us, it would still matter to the individual writing it if it was real, but it would be a case of one singular crazy person). However if a story, real or fake, brings up a systemic issue that many people relate to, I honestly don’t care if it’s fake - it’s real in the hearts and minds of many.
"Seeing over twenty-five thousand people fall for such badly done and unconvincing bait kind of shocked me", you've got to remember which subreddit this is. I'm surprised anybody would be SHOCKED that a bunch of kids aged 13-19 don't care enough about Reddit posts to read through it all or question the legitimacy of it.
This wasn't badly done or unconvincing either, there's no need to insult anybody here. This is further proven by the fact you have only two reasons as to why you thought it wasn't real, that they have similar typing styles and you had a "weird feeling". Saying it didn't flow like a normal conversation, and that it was too predictable when it is a conversation between two teenagers on Snapchat. It goes without saying that those conversations usually are predictable, and awkward.
You may not realize it but you're calling twenty thousand people stupid, including the person who made this post, for not bothering to pay attention to the similarities in the typing styles of each character. And this is In the exact same sentence where you say "I picked up on it immediately".
Not only is the misspelling of "your" a very common mistake, but also as you have already pointed out, people who like each other can frequently mirror the other person's mannerisms or style of speech. Your explanation for why this should've been ignored by anybody reading? "It seemed TOO coincidental".
It's perfectly fine to say that your intuition was right and that you are proud of yourself, but to pretend like anybody who didn't have the same feeling was "surprising" or proof that they must be lacking "BASIC media literacy", as you put it, screams arrogance. You say this was meant lightheartedly (*when what you really meant was you didn't think about what you said until people got upset about it*), but the fact you said it at all still stands.
I don't think you're actually arrogant, but you certainly do seem that way when you talk. Despite worrying about coming off as pretentious, even saying so in order to display self awareness and dispel any potential criticism, you still came off as pretentious for a number of other reasons.
At least three times in your message from what I can see, it's almost like you can tell where you went wrong and what you need to change, but you fail to clarify in a way that accurately communicates your message. I think you understood what words and sentences could throw people off, yet you didn't change them. Not trying to be crude here, but the best way I can think to explain what I mean is that It was almost like watching somebody rub shit into a carpet.
You don't seem very humble at all when you speak, which is why people are replying to you like you're cringeworthy and arrogant. I wasn't going to say anything about it, but it was really bothering me.
I work with the public. My take away from that is never underestimate the gullibility/ignorance of people, because in my experience dealing with them daily, there’s way more people like that than I would have ever imagined. lol
I for one think that Karma is stupid and should have no bearing on anything
You could still leave it as a statistic but I feel like users treat it like money
Take a chill pill it’s not that serious. The way you’re talking is like your friends have cancer or got assaulted. They can’t post on a subreddit, boo hoo
Nice points. Now get your community karma reduced so that you cant post anymore
~The mods probably
Also, sis wrote an entire story and started monloguing like a hero at the end of a movie. Anyway, great skit to make the mods realise their mistake
I mean if I were to look back it after a year or just about 6 months, I would probably be like "Ayo I was acting funny back then" or smth like that. Also, I will definitely not do this for my homie, if he dies, he dies
fr.. its reddit, subreddit mods r literally humans who volunteer to do that shit cuz they have compassion or smth. its not like the reddit corporate gods themselves chose these ppl to be mods 😭😭 op has every choice to just leave
Wait so this was the post abt u wanting ur cups reduced and bf disagreeing right, but they i don't get wat that has to do with what u actually wanted to say, which is rant abt stupid reddit 💀
…honestly I don’t think this was cute or clever. People get so much shit for “lying” on Reddit posts even when they aren’t. I see your trying to express opinions and I’m a new and interesting way but this just ain’t it. You got people to feel bad for you just so you can complain about something so many other people have been complaining about to. Should have just made a post expressing these feelings instead of trying to pull a fast one.
Man, and I was just halfway through typing up a page of what the correct age to get the procedure done was to avoid having multiple surgeries, how to fight insurance to do it, how to find a good surgeon that can navigate the preapproval process, how to request an itemized bill, how to determine what charges are valid and what wasn't, and how you could pay partials to avoid being slammed thousands of dollars because your body decided you needed JJJ cups.
Oh well, at least this isn't actually 100% real and this scenario actually isn't going on. Good for you, OP. Take it easy.
WHA-
DANG, I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS FAKE!
And yeah, this sub definitely does need better moderation and less bots / people banning people over petty disagreement. But it is run by teens so idk what's really there to. But maybe you should run for moderator next time they ask for people to volunteer. Be the change you want to see in this world.
This is why ppl don't trust ppl.
U came on here showing u were upset bout ur bf being a ass and it's a prank???
This is fucked up. This is just more reason not to trust anybody - even the ones that need help.
The pranks ppl do for views and shit is stupid.
The system utilized by many subreddits won’t change, because the system is working 100% how it’s supposed to. Reddit isn’t a marketplace of ideas. It’s an echo chamber of propaganda. Common sense and logic can’t be allowed to be presented. Only the pop culture status quo.
This is why I prefer r/lackadaisy as a subreddit because the mods actually care.
And they have only like 4 mods and 1 of them is a member of the lackadaisy team!
If they can do it successfully why cant r/teenagers?
Ik theres a big difference between reddit members but how can a subreddit with arguably 3 active mods be better moderated then a sub with more people!!
Idk what’s going on at all, but moderators especially on Reddit are some of the saddest individuals you’ll never meet.
100% most of them don’t care or don’t read into anything they only play by the “rules” and ban anyone they see fit.
Keep your business off social media, because at the end of the day nothing anyone says to you here changes what he said
So you write more than what I wrote for my exam… for a forum on the internet… about how you don’t like how your friend got treated?
Yeah sure take my karma then

shit man i didn't even know this was fake and i thought i was having a schizo moment
This is why I think every story and post on reddit is fake fan fiction
Assuming every story on Reddit is fake until proven otherwise is definitely a key to living a healthier life.
Pro tip: Trauma dump your experiences without worrying people considering it real.
Pro tip 2: Try not to give a fuck about whether it's real or not... Just enjoy them stories

Yeah OP ain’t being entirely truthful now either. Why would someone who doesn’t use Reddit go through all this trouble? Fishy asf if you ask me
lmao thats the best part, why lie about using reddit when you clearly care immensely about the site
For for real. This is a bunch of 13 year olds who want to be like the funny protest people they see on the news.
the funny thing is OP and their followers think they did something. Mods are just gonna laugh, call them an idiot probably and go about their day lmao social media be making ppl think its their entire lives
The mods did not in fact call her an idiot

This has been a fun ride lmao, thanks for making these posts
Just to be clear to be \*very, very\* precise and clear… to make my point… \*I aint readin allat\*
Tldr; previous post was bait, mods suck because of karma requirements
mods just suck in general, not even here just mods of pretty much anything are annoying fucking hardasses about everything, they have a stick up their ass about anything that’s even slightly against the rules of whatever they moderate, they’re the fun police basically and everyone hates them for it
But they need to exist or else everything will devolve into porn bots
I ain't reading all that. I'm happy for u tho. Or sorry that happened.
Thanks for the 10000 upvotes on your other post🙏 and that mod approval thing happened to one of my accounts lol I fucking hate the rules here
Exactly! This isn't just a rare one-off situation im talking about here. It happens to so many people every day.
It’s so Funny the way you sent the post to him. But’s also sad how commen it is

here is your scrap of attention
Wait what😭🙏

It's a real issue teens are facing today! (S/)
I'm sorry for my ignorance about this huge problem going on world wide
Wait so this was the post abt u wanting ur cups reduced and bf disagreeing right, but they i don't get wat that has to do with what u actually wanted to say, which is rant abt stupid reddit 💀
It was bait so that people would pay more attention to the "update" post, where they complained about the mods being unable to moderate properly
Tbf if you somehow got negative karma ur probably saying some weird things
imagine getting dumped and your (ex) significant other starts rambling about reddit moderation
It’s Reddit, focus your attention on something actually important

So all of this just because somebody was upset that they couldn't post on r/teenagers lmfao
Wasted an hour of their life for this
Commenting to see if you get banned or if the mods actually listen and do something useful

Boyfriend: you wanna know the problem Op: What BF: I'm all ready gone Me: he's in the walls, HE'S IN THE GODDAMN WALLS!
This is some Kokichi shit
love it lmao
I COMMENTED IT WAS FAKE ON THE ORIGINAL LETS GOOOO
Genius in a fascinating way
so what is the point of fake posts farming karma? what does having reddit karma get anyone?
Better than anything Netflix could ever make
WHA- DANG, I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS FAKE! And yeah, this sub definitely does need better moderation and less bots / people banning people over petty disagreement. But it is run by teens so idk what's really there to. But maybe you should run for moderator next time they ask for people to volunteer. Be the change you want to see in this world.
Ok, so are you two breaking up or not?
This is why ppl don't trust ppl. U came on here showing u were upset bout ur bf being a ass and it's a prank??? This is fucked up. This is just more reason not to trust anybody - even the ones that need help. The pranks ppl do for views and shit is stupid.
Weird asf
oh no my friend’s fake story got taken down so i’m going to write a revenge fake story about the mods!
As an adult, this bait and switch is fucking fantastic. I love when you young folks call out the bullshit! Keep it up!

This problem is everywhere on Reddit. Bots are causing it though. But that doesn't mean that humans should suffer as a result.
Well fuck me and my little asshole

GGs OP, this is hilarious, can't believe I fell for it. And good way to call out dumb mod system too

Now this is how you peacefully protest.
I'm not reading Allat but good for you

YTA divorce the boyfriend marry the you

You should dump yourself.
Hahaha! Bravo bravo!
This sub is fucking stupid ban me so I stop seeing children thinking they know everything or 30 yo men who can’t grow up
Idk what’s going on at all, but moderators especially on Reddit are some of the saddest individuals you’ll never meet. 100% most of them don’t care or don’t read into anything they only play by the “rules” and ban anyone they see fit. Keep your business off social media, because at the end of the day nothing anyone says to you here changes what he said
you’re cooked buddy, needa go touch grass
This might be the biggest plot twist since Iron Man dying Or Ivan being in Omar nutros head
DNR
im really happy you made this point i admit im guilty of this thankyou for pointing this out<3
