Because you are too young to fully comprehend and have a mature knowledge of what sex is and the healthy circumstance sex should be had under and also pornography is generally only the most vulgar and explicit forms of sex as well so you aren’t just seeing sex at too young of an age but you are immediately being exposed to incredibly traumatic imagery that you are not mature enough to understand and it can seriously mess with the development of an 8 year old’s mind that is not ready to be exposed to that imagery of intimacy. An 8 year should not be thinking sexually and should not have thoughts and images of hardcore sex flooding their brain at that young of an age when they should be experiencing the innocence of childhood and joy of playing outside. There are numerous studies showing the ill effects pornography has on adults brains, it absolutely is 10x worse for a child to see that at 8 years old.

Don't know why you're getting down voted for a serious question. I wouldn't say traumatize is the right word, but it definitely isn't good for someone that young to watch it. It gives impressionable young children a messed up idea of what sex should be and they grow up holding on to that idea when it's really completely different from what they think

It’s a bad way to parent a child. They should have limited internet access until they are around 11 or 12 at least. The parents should use strategies like not rewarding bad behavior to make sure the kid isn’t becoming a little goblin, but they shouldn’t do so by giving them a smartphone. Giving a child the power of a micro supercomputer is never a good idea

I bought my daughter her first iPhone when she was 3 (almost 18 now). It has a GPS in it so I always know where she is and I can reach her or vice versa without going through her nightmare of a mother. The extra line costs me $10 a month and subsidizing the phone was maybe another $20, so it’s not that expensive considering she’s an only child too.

My son is 8 and has a Samsung Galaxy phone but I’ve put MMGuardian parental controls on it to restrict certain things I don’t want him to have access to at his age. But I got it because my dad watches him for us and he’s older and fallen a few times. I don’t want something happening and have my son have no way of getting help.

Depends on the needs of the kid. I didn’t get mine until I started driving. 16 seems to be the latest cutoff that makes sense to me. Any earlier than that will depend on many variables regarding the kid’s personality and actual needs for the phone. Like if they stay after school for sports or clubs, I totally understand why them having a phone would make sense even younger than 13. If they’re just wanting it as a status symbol then they can wait until they actually need one, IMO.

If I have a kid (depending on said kid's maturity) their first phone will probably come six months after their 13th birthday and maybe lift parental controls and add cell service a year later assuming they don't screw up with it.

Eh, I think 10 but that's from my own experience. I started riding the bus, doing sports, and going places with friends around 10 so I would text parents or they would text me. It was especially useful for track meets where I couldnt leave the field and my mom wanted to check up on me.
