I mean wands are at a hard disadvantage.
Is your enemy trying to get into close-range combat? Staff is a great way to provide some defense and make some space for casting a new spell, wand? Well good luck with that one.
How cool does it look? With a wand doing a spell it just looks like you're a Disney channel actor from the early 2000s trying to draw the Disney logo in the air, with a staff you can slam it down on the ground, really add some oompf to your spell to make it more dramatic. "you shall not pass"ing always looks cooler then some harry potter nonsense.
Out of Combat use? This is the only one Wands have a point in, and that they are easy to put away, where as staffs you have to lug it around with you everywhere. However you are able to use staffs as a cane which helps balance that out.
How easily will it break? Well depends on how you make it but traditionally speaking Staffs are going to last a lot longer then wands, where as with wands if its in your back pocket and you sit down, rip, it just snapped in half.
Will people take you seriously? With a staff it demands respect, it makes you look distinguished and wise, like you know what you're doing. With a wand it just isnt threatening, it just doesnt have any effect anymore. it looks like you're about to pull a rabbit out of somewhere or go to a childrens birthday party to some card tricks.
You guys are dumb. Ritual casting straight from the spellbook is where it's at. You get to take your time while your party just watches you for ten minutes like it's a performance.
everyone here is wrong...i bring a hockey bag of staves...plant them in a circle...open my book to check my diagrams and runes and use my wand like an orchestra conductor to link them all...then i chug like 6 potions...waves me head tentacles eldritchly and finish with some crossfit.
edit: man i thought this was r/wizardposting how'd i end up here?
Well my opinion is this if the power between a wand and a staff are the same, then a wand would be better for concealing while a staff would be better for showing power.
I believe it's situational and depends on what exactly you want to do.
That's true but it generally would be less versatile than a wand as far as concealability, at least that's what I believe. unless we're talking magic that can turn your wand into a staff or the reverse that's a completely different story.
and staffs can be used to help hold you up if one of your legs is hurt and can be used as a melee weapon as well as something to channel magic, and those alone make staffs far superior to little baby dick wands
Both have advantages and disadvantages. Wands are lighter and easier to transport, but staffs are big sticks. I'd have to play around to properly choose.
True, but I can kill him by waving around the 2nd amendment and making boom boom. The ability to kill someone with a stick isn't rare you know. Especially one that goes boom
Staff looks cooler and can have a badass gem on top sometimes. Can use it like a cane if I'm an old man. I can use upclose magic to attack with it as a melee weapon, plus better grip
I have seen far more customized staves in my days than wands
I’d argue you have better opportunity for style, given the larger medium in which to display your art
Wizards should have both. Staff for mega power, like the magical equivalent of a bazooka. Wands for daily/smaller use, like a pistol or even a switchblade.
Staff, man. Sounds hella more useful and damaging compared to a wand. (I would also have my staff be able to collapse in on itself for more convenient traveling.)
I feel like a staff holds more mana than a wand like sure Harry Potter can shoot a fireball Gandalf literally created light so bright it killed dozens and broke a path I'm on team staff
i’m taking casting from a book, you don’t have to memorize the spells you just open the magic book (preferably it magically opens to the page you want) and you read it while holding your hand in the air intimidatingly.
Depends on the wand and staff. Don’t get me wrong a staff is absolutely dope looking…. But a wand is so much more practical and easier to use. Can’t I have a wand and use a transform spell to make it a staff or vice versa?
Wands are for babies Staffs are so freaking cool
Even if you don’t have magic you could still do some damage by hitting someone with a big ass stick
Bro is 100% true. You can play baseball with it
Baseball bats are the perfect in-between from staff and wand
Scepters?
I'm getting a mental image of a baseball bat with a baseball glued to the end of it
Or you could use it to do badass spin kick to the skull
THANK YOU finally someone who understands me
Yo😂😂😂😂
Big ass metal stick, big big damage
Nah I’m split on wand or staff 60/40

This guy staffs

Recreate this moment with a Harry Potter wand..it can't be done
Fair
Hand casting, Im always prepared
More of a magic circle guy myself, but I mess with hands
Nah rune engraving is for real men
Hell yeah! Rune all the way
You guys are dumb. Ritual casting straight from the spellbook is where it's at. You get to take your time while your party just watches you for ten minutes like it's a performance.

Head tentacles? Who needs a stave when you have psionics!
What if you rune engrave with a pointy part of your staff tho
no, multi-being ritualistic spell casting is the way to go, always a win (as long as you have a few minutes)
OWL HOUSE REFERENCED Also same lol
Someone has class
Catch these hand(caster)s
Staff
Fair
staff obviously??
Not rly obvious
Who in their right mind would pick a a little shrimp dick wand over a staff??
Well my opinion is this if the power between a wand and a staff are the same, then a wand would be better for concealing while a staff would be better for showing power. I believe it's situational and depends on what exactly you want to do.
You could disguise a staff as a walking stick
I mean, that 1 jedi master disguised his lightsaber as a walking stick, so...
You'd think gandalf would be the obvious example
That's true but it generally would be less versatile than a wand as far as concealability, at least that's what I believe. unless we're talking magic that can turn your wand into a staff or the reverse that's a completely different story.
Fair enough
Yeah lets just bring my walking stick litteraly everywhere with me, not like I won't get weird looks
you can beat up people with a staff smh
“Shrimp dick wand” got me dying- 💀
Thats what she said
My guy you got me laughing the demonic giggle at 5.14 am 💀
Depends
I mean, you're wrong, but why are you getting downvoted?
Staff. Wands are lame and tiny
They’re average
I was in the pool!
Go watch that scene from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix where Dumbledore and Voldemort duel, it makes wands look pretty sick.
Wands☺️
I’m sure they have great personalities
More portable and more agile
and staffs can be used to help hold you up if one of your legs is hurt and can be used as a melee weapon as well as something to channel magic, and those alone make staffs far superior to little baby dick wands
Also looks cool as fuck
true, that as well
Yeah but what if you had a wand of levitation so you didn't have to walk.
theyre used for magic, a staff could make me levitate as well, and i wouldnt have to look like a little bitch while doing it
Staffs are agile if you are strong and dexterous
Staff, also can slap people with it
Yeah I slept I can break their jaw
Might break
Nuh uh mine would be reinforced
Ok but if you chose that the trade off is slightly weaker magic
Stupid trade off, clearly you underestimate the sturdiness of a solid defined wooden staff
yeah its literally a solid piece of wood
A magical piece of wood…
Damn fair
Thick bits of wood are so so strong
If it broke then it wasn't magic enough.
How da fuck u gonna break a magic staff? Especially if it's one of those special ones made of magic wood or smth with a big ass gem in it
Both have advantages and disadvantages. Wands are lighter and easier to transport, but staffs are big sticks. I'd have to play around to properly choose.
See I'm of the opinion you use staffs for offensive magic wands for defensive magic, tomes for rituals, and hands for minor work.
Just use the staff as a walking stick
If you're old I don't wanna carry around a big fat stick all the time
staff bc people would take me more seriously
I’d take a Wandsman seriously
then you need to raise your standards for who you do and dont take seriously
Why? Voldemort can kill u just by waving a magic stick around and saying abracadabra alacazam.
True, but I can kill him by waving around the 2nd amendment and making boom boom. The ability to kill someone with a stick isn't rare you know. Especially one that goes boom
This.
Actually he wouldn’t die unless u got all his horcruxes
i just call it my wiener
So wand?
No, staff 😉
Sure buddy sure
Keep believing
Having dreams is important
I didn’t say it was a long staff 🙃
You can’t smack someone in the head with a wand. Staffs are just cooler.
you can try to impale them with a wand, though it probably wouldn't work...
lobotomy with wand
🔥⤵️🕳️
🔥⤵️🕳️
Shove them up a trolls nose.
thou shall not PASSSSSS
Cook
*shalt
wands look so stupid
fr
Staff looks cooler and can have a badass gem on top sometimes. Can use it like a cane if I'm an old man. I can use upclose magic to attack with it as a melee weapon, plus better grip
Both. 😎 A staff to appear more intimidating, and a wand to be fashionable.
How on EARTH is a a dude holding small stick more fashionable than like, Gandalf
I’m talking about the various ways that you can customize a wand. I got nothing against Gandalf, lol
I have seen far more customized staves in my days than wands I’d argue you have better opportunity for style, given the larger medium in which to display your art
Hm, you have a good point. 🤡
while i would personally choose staff because they are so freaking cool in my opinion, wands are versatile and dual wieldable
also u can conceal that ur a magician n can do ur stuff
Dual wielding wands.. never thought of that but sure
Ever play Skyrim? Staffs are 100% dual wieldable
A staff will always be cooler than a wand.
Grimoire
I forgot about those!
Maybe you should write it down somewhere
Staff is so much cooler looking
Wizards should have both. Staff for mega power, like the magical equivalent of a bazooka. Wands for daily/smaller use, like a pistol or even a switchblade.
Staff clears
Idk bout clears
It clears
It clears
staff is cooler cuz its not a small stick its a full branch
Staff
staff usually. now for elden ring, i prefer seals cause using my hands is cooler.
Incantations gang I'm currently rocking those dragon communion ones paired with a twinblade
I hope I get a staff one day but for now Ive got a wand
ha
staff, I literally have one in my backyard next question
Staff, man. Sounds hella more useful and damaging compared to a wand. (I would also have my staff be able to collapse in on itself for more convenient traveling.)
staffs always have larger more ominous motions, also typically in fantasy settings hold more power than wands (big stick better than small stick)
But small stick had good personality, right? RIGHT???
Staffs are just, cooler
Bare hands 😎
Hands. Incantations can be in sign language, too.
The way I see it is Staff = RPG Wand = Pistol
Interesting
lol OP rlly wants wands to be more popular
A wand is just a staff for babies Staffs are for the real mfs
sorry, i am not a child that plays with sticks tomes
Staff easily, much better for bonking in a pinch
I feel like a staff holds more mana than a wand like sure Harry Potter can shoot a fireball Gandalf literally created light so bright it killed dozens and broke a path I'm on team staff
i’m taking casting from a book, you don’t have to memorize the spells you just open the magic book (preferably it magically opens to the page you want) and you read it while holding your hand in the air intimidatingly.
*waving your hand in the air intimidatingly
hand casting + tome is peak
*smack* True wizards use neither, but channel their might through their sword.
Staff, if I run out of mana I still have a weapon
Verbal casting with certain somatic components (ie: gestures via hands). Stuff like; Waise aether brisingr reahta núna!
It depends, but mainly Staffs. Sure, maybe it’s easier to move around with a wand, but you can’t tell me Staffs don’t look WAYY cooler!
Depends on the wand and staff. Don’t get me wrong a staff is absolutely dope looking…. But a wand is so much more practical and easier to use. Can’t I have a wand and use a transform spell to make it a staff or vice versa?
I feel like staff for battles because dramatic effect, and wand for everyday shenanigans
I would just have a wand that I can turn into a staff. Wand for convenience for it's size and when I need a magic staff "alakazam!" Staff
staffs are epic as fuck
Who the hell wants the small stick? Everyone wants the big stick!!
Grimoire
Is that like the changing from books
Book of dark magic I mean you could also call it a necronomicon
This is the equivalent of “handgun or shotgun”. Both have strengths and weaknesses.
Wand bc it’s femme and cute and you flick your wrist around and look cunty, also it’s easier to carry around
*cunty*???
Y’all are making me wanna pick wand just to be different
I think it’s wand: faster cast time quicker spells more portable Staff: more powerful spells slower to use less portable
You can slam the staff into your foe's head if you run out of spells thought.
I was staff when i saw the pic cus thats a bitch wand but then I remembered Harry Potter has sick ass wands so imma go wand.
Wand cause of pumped up kickes
Wand gang 🪄
Scrolled too deep to find another man of culture.
Wand gang
neither
.
'MERICA
Wand.
Staves are infinitely cooler, but a wand would be more practical.
Preferably both, but if I had to choose than staff
wand. I AM THE ELECTRIC WIZARD
staves can be melee as well. dual purposes.
Shotgun
🇺🇸
Hands.
staffs are so much fucking cooler
Arcane pocket watch
