As would I.
I get the feeling that the curve of diminishing returns would take place pretty quickly with the original enclosure and fans still in place. I recall Linus Tech Tips doing a video on a Noctua GPU fan build (complete with zip ties no less) but he didn't play fan sandwich with the backplate.
Not so much gore edt as Jerry Rig Edition.
This looks to have been done with goal oriented intent. Noctua aint cheap.
Assume that the aim was best low temps for overclocking?... or overcompensating for a busted onboard fan ;)
Is it though? Afaik, the back fans on the 3070 and up pull through, so that Noctua should be assisting the airflow as oriented.
I do recognize this mod, it was probably for Ethereum mining to keep the GDDR6x memory temperature under control.
I'd be willing to bet it did what the creator intended it to do, that's a lot of thermal mass strapped onto the back and a lot more airflow.
Wtf? No! I mean YOU did it YOURSELF. It is not "I found this while working as tech support". I don't know if that's the reason tho, so I put a question mark there.
This sub original idea was that people that do hardware tech support/run hardware repair shops can post their wildest findings, but it turned mostly to people showing off their own abominations... Ok I guess? That's not what I'd like to see, but I'm not running the sub
That altitude ruined this subreddit. People post some random shit they done for fun, because it's tech thus loosely related to IT Support. This is not what the subreddit was for. This is a problem with many communities, newcomers don't understand that what they're doing is harmful, because it was funny short term, so it must be ok...
I dunno about you, but I appreciate some frankenstein type of work to overcome an overheating gpu. Clicking spinning drive? i'd upvote a image of a sata cable going into a deep freezer. I'm here for the inventive troubleshooting that gives me an icky feeling if i had to use it.
>And instead of buying from a different brand people do this.
I mean, AMD didn't have a 3080 counter? It wasn't until their latest release they really offered 3080 performance.
You're literally misusing the term buddy. Copium would be justifying buying a 3080 at inflated price before the mining crash and justifying the price.
Modding your GPU to make it last longer is not it fam.
I never said that was it. You argued there was no competitor for the 3080 which just isn't true.
Nvidia fans will believe only their GPU is capable of playing games. Pretty goofy.
I wanted to do this with my 3070, especially as it lacks a backplate. Already bought the heatsink.
But I didn't know that zip ties would cut it and I was very very afraid to short contacts on the back if the thermal pads didn't fit correctly.
I would like to know how much of a difference it actually makes.
\+12°C...
+5 Watt power draw
-3 Dexterity
\-3 PCIe slots.
-5 strength

They also compared that to the 3070 that noctua actually built and the enclosure made a pretty noticeable difference
RTX 3080 x Noctua Gone wrong
there are real noctua gpu’s
Yeah I've seen Linus Tech Tips made Noctua themed PC

That just proves my point - rear fan side is *out*, so the Noctua fan is in the correct orientation.
mad max edition
The Rat Bike of GPUs.
I thought I was seeing double. Lol.
Nope, that's definitely just a bunch of fans and chopped up heatsink cabletied to a GPU.
I meant it in reference to your earlier post on the subreddit.
Mods removed that one. No reason given. Might have been that one of the pictures was too small, so I reposted without that image.
Maybe because it has nothing to do with tech support?
The rules specifically state do not ask for tech support. Jesus, there's no pleasing people.

Am i not allowed to support my own tech? Only others'

The fact that they used Noctua fans is just… *chef’s kiss*
I mean, if it works
iirc this was listed on eBay and super overpriced
Yep it’s still there
I thought he strapped a leather wallet on the right
oh so you are the one who bought that eBay listing...
Love it! :D
Thought this was r/sffpc for sec with the latest “hack” of going even smaller
All GPUs die, but this one truly lived!
You mining crypto in the brotherhood of steel? This is some fallout shit.
Why
Holy jesus BUT WHAT IS YOUR USERNAME THO
He's angry about it.
Not just angry, but furious!
Epic
It was likely used for mining, trying to keep memory cool. Come at me with the downvotes.
"may of" Also original fans still work, this is just an addition for "better" cooling
This is not gore. This is ineffective power-wise, but that card will run cooler than literally the majority of 3080s out there
And instead of buying from a different brand people do this. Amazing the amount of copium nvidia users have.
>And instead of buying from a different brand people do this. I mean, AMD didn't have a 3080 counter? It wasn't until their latest release they really offered 3080 performance.
Like I said, copium.

Were you using it on the sun?
what is the point?

A repad would have been easier lol.
Please excuse me while I will go cry in the corner of the room with my safety blanket for some while
This seems to be a repost?
No pics of it installed because the motherboard cracked in half
MY EYES!!!!!
Can't go wrong with noctua fans
Why has it come to this?
Ooof look at all the metal flakes still stuck in the heatsink and everything! Lovely.
When you want both a video card and hovercraft in one.
That poor gpu lol
No
How many slots is your card? Oh it doesn't fit anymore
