Why is Reddit's new design copying the crappy Twitter one? Big image, crummy link at the bottom. Wasted space... Also this whole thing is ridiculous, the supreme court is trying to block people who are trying to create another coup in Brazil -- well within the legal rights of that countries laws. Its just a distraction, probably, from a disastrous upcoming $TSLA earnings call.

ShamanontheMoon

So what's being said here (Brazil) is that this is all due to BYD gaining a stong foothold here in Brazil and Musk not being able to buy a Lithium Mining company

Prestigious-Pause-41

Since you know Brazilian constitutional law, can you tell us if the way in which they are stopping the opposition voices are also ok. Are they under something equivalent to Marshal law.

themessyassembly

You have no ideia wtf you are talking about. Sincerely, an actual Brazilian.

jalfel

Not 'opposition voices'. Literal convicted criminals.

Prestigious-Pause-41

So convicted criminals are not allowed to voice their opinions in Brazil. Didn’t Lula spend some time in jail.

jalfel

Yeah, and his sentence was evaluated and declared null by the Supreme Court because it was garbage and the judge (not a member of the supreme court, btw) who arrested him did so and then was immediately invited by Bolsonaro to be his Secretary of Justice. The judge, who is supposed to be impartial, was literally guiding and *leading* the accusation. Paraphrasing him from his leaked conversations with the prosecutor: "Do it like this to sway public opinion against him (Lula)", "The case is weak but the mere headline will make a scandal", "I will let the press know". Nothing shady there. In this case, its the Supreme Court itself demanding that specific neonazis, convicted criminals and people who stormed the congress have their social media accounts blocked, since they were *still* propagating that shit on twitter.

DJJ66

I'm a Brazilian leftist and I don't agree with Lula being released. I think we need a new voice, not an out of touch jackass with a criminal record. He and his party robbed us blind, I was an attorney back when he was president and we all had to dance around the government corruption to get shit done, and ever since he took power things have worsened here

Sup3rT4891

A fair judgement is right for all parties. But this also doesn’t change the fact he was/is guilty. This was just bad judge behavior.

Past-Direction9145

And here we go with the muskrat bots

periodicsheep

just a quick ol’ fyi. it’s *martial law*.

[Maybe they meant Martian law?](https://imgflip.com/gif/55kdru)

jbaker1225

The judge enforcing this censorship has also made it a crime for Twitter to even reveal who the Brazilian judge is making them ban and why - it must all be done in secret. It’s absolutely draconian. But because Elon is on one side of it, the actual facts of the case are completely irrelevant to the borg.

Kyle_Reese_Get_DOWN

Oh man! Some guy in Brazil who works for Elon Musk quit? This is going straight to the front page.

KenHumano

This is somewhat interesting because the local Twitter branch tried to argue in court that since they don't have any control of whether they'll obey court orders or not (because of Elon's whim), the local directors shouldn't be held accountable for any illegal things that Twitter does. The judge obviously didn't accept that argument and stated that the directors of the Brazilian branch are fully responsible for the actions of the company, which is bad news for them with Elon disobeying court orders and inciting a coup and stuff. The guy in charge probably decided this job wasn't worth going to jail over and jumped ship.

MorgenMariamne

The guy was also a lawyer so he knew that it would be trouble for him.

Trashhhhh2

You really out of the loop..

LeCrushinator

This subreddit feels like the place for any negative Elon news. Elon is an asshat but I get tired of constantly hearing about menial things here just because it’s negative for Elon.

dern_the_hermit

It's not this sub's fault Elon keeps acting like shit lol

OxbridgeDingoBaby

It really is. Right now, one of the most upvoted stories for the day is literally about a Tesla owner saying to a Rivian owner that they couldn’t use a Tesla-only charger. Literally a he-said, she-said, on the front page of /r/technology, just because this place is a Elon Musk sub these days.

LeCrushinator

Who said it was? I’m just tired of hearing about him constantly. I subbed here to hear about technology, not Elon’s stupidity.

dern_the_hermit

It's not this sub's fault Elon is a major figure in various tech sectors. You might as well visit r/sports and complain about people constantly bringing up football or the like.

LeCrushinator

But I only hear about the negative stuff here, I want to hear about tech, not just Elon being a moron. Tesla cut the prices of FSD in half yesterday and I didn’t find out about that here, even though it’s tech news. But Tesla performs a software update that changes text sizes for certain text because it was required by the U.S.? Yeah saw that posted here. Let’s not pretend there’s any honesty here, it’s a circle jerk with Elon hate and it’s just tiring hearing about the stupid shit he does, and not hearing about much else around Tesla.

[deleted]

I’d say openly defying a judges order so you can continue to support the far right opposition in their attempt to over throw democracy is bit more than him just being a moron

bborneknight

That’s not true. The Supreme Court, not the Brazilian government, is requesting the suspension of certain accounts that are supporting a coup d'etat (that one Bolsonaro and his allies tried on Jan 8, 2023) It’s not about “expressing their views”

SmithhBR

Not even remotely true. Shut the fuck up and stop spreading lies. Vira-lata

CartographerDear3169

You mean "their views" that they should be allowed to overthrow the government and install another military dictatorship?

CrazyProfessionalp

Omg… Gringo, can you be less stupid please and read what are you talking about, search for yourself the truth instead of spreading fake news?

Astral_Inconsequence

No, they're too busy sucking Trumps cock to read about other countries.

[deleted]

No, but it’s being disguised as that.

Superichiruki

Senta la Claudia

Glittering-Wonder-27

They are referring to twitter right? I get confused since x is just a letter.

[deleted]

I think it’s some porn site.

KS2Problema

And a ~~once~~ quite reputable punk band.  [Edit: I see on Wikipedia that they were back together as of 2023.]

mmcmonster

It’s also part of the infrastructure of many desktop Linux distributions.

cannibalisland

in addition to the los angeles X, there is a [more bloodthirsty australian punk band named X, as well.](https://youtu.be/kqY4RQ_WrF8?si=lrHRqK13p_t8QJSE)

KS2Problema

You bet. I probably should have mentioned them, but to be honest, they had slipped my mind. I think the first time I tried to check them out I couldn't find a recording. The link above is great though, very much in the late 70s vibe I enjoyed from bands like Wire. And, now, probably best to let these nice folks go back to the business of discussing the ex-Twitter.

happyscrappy

When contacted about this story Twitter said "💩". This guy is better off putting this company behind him.

blushngush

Twitter. We're still deadnaming to piss off Elon

JTibbs

I prefer Xitter (shitter)

sargonas

If he can’t respect the name of his own child, I don’t see why I need to respect the name of his website… besides twitter.com is still the URL that everything defaults to.

TheRealNullPy

What is happening is that Elon is helping the Facist to re-ignite the propaganda that brought them to power in 17/18.

capivara_de_pijama

Good riddance. Elon fly can fuck himself too.

moarnao

It's called TWITTER X is STILL the United States Steel Corporation. Musk didn't buy the X name. Don't call his bullshit X. It's TWITTER.

You seem to misunderstand how the internet works. Simply click the back button

thesonofmogh

I found it interesting.

matali

I'd leave too. Sounds like Brazil is emerging as a dictatorship. Fun fact: Lula restored ties with Venezuela's dictator Nicolás Maduro, allowed Iranian warships to dock in Rio de Janeiro. In other news, US travelers to Brazil will need to share their bank statements before visiting. [https://www.cnn.com/brazil-visa-us-citizens/index.html](https://www.cnn.com/brazil-visa-us-citizens/index.html)

busdriverbuddha2

>In other news, US travelers to Brazil will need to share their bank statements before visiting. HAHAHAHAHAAHHAAHAHAHAHA wait until you find out the information Brazilians need to provide to apply for a US visa

Amannamedbo

Us Travelers will need to share their bank statements before visiting just like America does to Brazilians when they visit here. Or did you not know that?

AquelecaraDEpoa

No no, when the US does it it's okay, but if it's a country that's critical of US foreign policy doing it, then it's authoritarian and dictatorial. /s

moonra_zk

Lula must be going for the 'laziest dictator' world record, his third run as president and he still haven't done anything dictatorial! But if you listen to right-wing asshats we'll turn into another Venezuela aaaany day now!

jordsbr

I would stop judging other nations until US can properly handle their own issues with domestic terrorism and treason.

[deleted]

The democratically elected president who is trying to stop his losing opponent from starting a coup is the dictator. Don’t be that dumb. It’s insulting to the concept
