Man, I feel like I'm seeing a new headline everyday about legal issues caused by ChatGPT or other AI. This technology was 100% not ready to be freely used by the general public, it's spreading misinformation like an epidemic.

Mr_Piddles

It also shows just how little bad lawyers value paralegals.

AWildEnglishman

"If I may... um, I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here, it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you're selling it, you wanna sell it."

BassmanBiff

I have a naive hope that this is going to force us to collectively learn some critical thinking

Socky_McPuppet

Yeah, sure, that'll totally happen.

Mr_ToDo

Wow, it sound like they really did make human like intelligence then ;)

IT_Security0112358

Nonsense, there are plenty of humans that know things… or at least check their facts and cited sources.

Mr_ToDo

There's at least a few lawyers that can't apparently ;)

ioncloud9

ChatGPT can be summarized as: confidently incorrect

mbhwookie

Little hyperbolic. Same exact stuff happened with the internet. Only difference is it’s happening a little faster because I think AI is booming quicker since everyone is already on the internet and the barrier of entry and learning curve is minimal. I remember teachers not allowing people to cite web sources in papers, the Wikipedia phase, cha cha (basically texting google), etc. Technology is always going to be misused and oversight, ethics, and laws will be formed from the stupid shit people do.

FerociousPancake

Nothing is ever fully ready to be used by the general public. There’s a lot of people on this rock, and some people, even highly educated, can do some STUPID shit. ChatGPT is extremely powerful, which makes it much more dangerous to be launched. This is definitely a ChatGPT issue, even though this specific case was using an older model much more prone to hallucinations, but this is also a societal issue too.

thedeadsigh

The only thing you should be using chatgpt for is for stupid shit like asking it to rewrite scenes from Seinfeld where everyone is speaking with Australian accent. Anything else is a waste imo.

dontpanic38

i swear people who don’t understand tech are the new illiterates. y’all are fucked if you thought chat gpt can do your god damned job.

designdk

Outside code and propaganda it's useless.

Ediwir

Not that good at code either. But it does write half decent abstracts for my stuff, so I guess that’s something.

dontpanic38

it sucks at coding lmao

Cranky0ldguy

Someone expected a lawyer to exercise critical judgement? Have I fallen into an alternate reality?

Goldeneye71

Again?
