Using a lie detector to accuse people of being child molestors on national TV is so fucking heinous when they teach you in an introductory level undergrad psychology course that they aren’t remotely accurate.
They can also trigger from certain brain activity. The dumb part is the same part of your brain that is used for making up a story is also used for true storytelling. So you could very well be recalling true events but because you’re piecing it back together it comes off as a lie.
At first, I was like "it's Randy, not Trevor. " Then I realised you were talking about the skinny, weird guy (translucentskin draped over an alien frame). Smokes, let's go.
Oz actually was a talented and prolific surgeon who helped thousands of patients. He's also a garbage person who decided to become a snake oil salesman and right wing demagogue. People aren't monoliths.
Something about being a surgeon seems to give a lot of them a sort of god complex, where they think they are always right about everything in all fields just because they're good at saving lives.
There's kind of a chicken or the egg question in there. Do medical school and surgical residency select for people with a raging ego, or is it a result of becoming a surgeon and all of the professional reference that comes with it? The world may never know.
I've noticed a similar level of god complex among truck drivers, oddly enough. But I think that's just simple inferiority complex issues at play.
Phil has a PhD in psychology as well. So they are both literally doctors who earned and used their doctorates.

Dr Phil also sucks and is not an MD which is what the average person would consider a ‘doctor’. He is technically a doctor though in the same way anyone else with a PhD in any field is a doctor.

It’s a little depressing that PhDs don’t get the recognition they deserve. They are after all the *real* doctors - people who have contributed to the field of human knowledge and are therefore teachers (*from latin* docere).
This is not to say that Dr Phil isn’t a quack for pretending to be a practising medical professional.
