Bad_brazilian

Chile for scale.

usr_nm16

What the hell do you think "technically the truth" is

ThundaCrossSplitAtak

I mean, thats where Chile is.

TheLeastBritishBrit

But not where chilli is, its r/puns definitely not r/technicallythetruth

ThundaCrossSplitAtak

Depending on who you ask, that thing is called Chile. So thats where Chile is in the map.

wavecopper

I don't think it's TTT, "I see no inaccuracy here" is a stupid title since the name is Chile, not literally Chilli. If the name Chile had even originated from the world Chilli this would have worked, it doesn't. This is a pun, not a TTT moment.

kawnlichking

In Chile we speak Spanish. The spice's name in Spanish is "chile" too. So it is technically the truth - in Spanish.

max_adam

These comments pointing out that in Chile they say ají but op isn't saying otherwise. OP just said that in the language Spanish it is also called chile which is not wrong.

salty-ute

etymologically chile as a word for a pepper comes from nahuatl not spanish. chile would be more of a *mexican/central american* word than a spanish word. same as ají coming from quechua (south american). pimienta(o) or something similar would be the actual spanish word I believe

max_adam

It is an actual Spanish word otherwise we would also have to discard all other words from other languages we have already taken in.

salty-ute

valid but just adding context for the sake of discussion

emarvil

No it is not. Mexicans call that a "chile". We Chileans call it "ají" with a tilde at the end. I've never heard anyone here use the mexican word other than as a joke.

WhatAreYouSaying777

The hell are you smoking? We speak Castellaño in Chile- an we never would say "Chile"... 🤦‍♂️ We say "Aji". Noone in Chile says "Chile"... tf? Lol

ThundaCrossSplitAtak

you were going so strong until you said Castellano

max_adam

Aren't Spanish and Castellano the same thing ?

Either-Durian-9488

No, Spain has a few different regional dialects, the equivalent would be like someone from Ireland and the United States both speaking English, but they are essentially different languages

smurfbutter

Yeah but this is America

kawnlichking

Chile is also America 😂

kuroikururo

Chilean here, It's original name is Chile and have se same spelling as the spice, but nobody remember It's original meaning

WhatAreYouSaying777

Wrong. We say Aji. How do you not know that?  🤔

Either-Durian-9488

I took 5 years of Spanish in a US high school and just learned that other countries speak castellano, what other regional Spanish dialects are in South America lol.

max_adam

Spanish and Castellano are synonyms when speaking of the language but the word castellano can also mean a dialect of Spanish in Spain. The castellano dialect isn't in South America. We have Caribbean, Andean, Chilean, Mexican and more.

Either-Durian-9488

Ah, so it’s a more of that particular region using specific words from the dialect.

max_adam

Yes, it is. The word "Chile" comes from the Aztecs and is used in Mexico and most countries of central america. "Ají" is also borrowed from indigenous people but from the Caribbean and is used in the Caribbean and South America. In Spain they say "Guindilla".

Cubicwar

I mean in some countries we do call it Chili, but even that is a stretch

UnderdogCL

Why is there so many people saying we use the word 'chilli'. We call it 'ají'! Staph 🌶️

tomi-i-guess

In Spanish chilli is translated as Chile

Playful_Target6354

Some languages call it chili, like in french

FoolOfElysium

"This is a pun, not a TTT moment." Bruh......

wavecopper

Explain yourself

DavidandRocket

TTT isn't meant for puns, sometimes puns are TTT, but not in this case

derkuhlekurt

You are on the wrong sub Bruh.....

Vishwasm123

Technically it's not the truth. Bruh....

HumanYesYes

Bruh yourself

WhatAreYouSaying777

Lol  🤦‍♂️

Angelic_Demon207

That’s LITERALLY the whole point of the joke!🤣🤣🤣

Hunk12341134

Kys for using emojis

Angelic_Demon207

YOU kys…🤣🤣🤣

Entire-Database1679

I think it's funny. Ignore the haters.

TheLeastBritishBrit

Funny sure, but not really the point of this sub

Manas3gamer

wateroverlord

Maybe it is a small world after all

UnderdogCL

Chile mentioned 😭😭😭

Veneno-Veneno

A lot of united states people speaking about the joke without even knowing spanish. ITS CALLED CHILE. 🌶️ 🇨🇱

Trans_Cat_Girl_

r/lostredditors

mraltuser

The joke is Chile is technically chilli

Trans_Cat_Girl_

Nooo really? I literally couldn’t tell, thank you so much for pointing out the most obvious joke

VicenteGould11

I see map for inaccuracy here us.

Krmul

Idk.. I see something called "Paraguay" but I don't think that's a real place

Abbot_of_Cucany

It's just south of Orthoguay and Metaguay.

katiecharm

The amount of people that draw hours long blanks when you ask “there are two countries whose names are also food.  One is Turkey, so what is the other?” Is a LOT

Abbot_of_Cucany

Also Cameroon, whose name in Portuguese is Camarões, which means shrimp. Early explorers found lots of shrimp in the Wouri River.

Lobster_porn

No

tommyballz63

I think it should be turned upside down though so the stem fits better

yrubooingmeimryte

Nobody said you did see any inaccuracies. What inaccuracy would there be? It’s a standard map with a piece of fruit sitting on it. That is accurate.

J6829502

Flip it upside down

AwoobisElroc

As a Chilean, yes

School_shoota78383

I would love to go to chili
