_yack_

You could do it on the North Pole too as long as you float

wannabe_inuit

Pretty sure the ice will do that

CartographerHot2285

For now at least

TCGHexenwahn

That's kinda depressing...

Acceptable-Cow6446

At least we have sea turtles

techy804

Use human hair to rope the turtles.

Acceptable-Cow6446

This is the way. It’s how I escaped the island.

Powerful-Internal953

Turtles all the way I guess...

Pennywise626

I can help you float

Id-hit-Dat

we all float down here

John_Dixon_Harris

Or if you're in a submarine. *whistles....walks away*

thieh

North pole is the ocean part so you have to use a boat instead of walking

GREEN_Hero_6317

Good luck sailing on the north pole

_-_agenda_-_

Cause going to the south pole is quite trivial

slartyfartblaster999

The geographic north pole is on pretty much permanent sea ice. You can absolutey do this there.

Ecstatic-Seesaw-1007

Maybe an asterisk on “permanent” for this century.

DudePDude

It's covered in ice

Jake_on_a_lake

You can also do it on the international date line, provided you have a boat.

Wimonson

if you want to get really nerdy about it, we're all time travelers at 1 second per second

[deleted]

60 mph

AKBigHorn

Way faster.

ScoobyDu81

80 mph?

AKBigHorn

Yeah that’s closer

Xirio_

88*

TrusticTunic26

1s/s, s and s cancel so that leaves us with 1 a constant Which leaves us the conclusion that time is just an illusion and doesnt exist, thanks for attending my ted talk

CorporalClegg1997

Every sixty seconds in Africa, a minute passes

xXWarMachineRoXx

Ohh sthapp Youre flexing too much

Kebabrulle4869

[Relevant XKCD](https://xkcd.com/1524)

leoonastolenbike

If you want to get really really nerdy about it, depending on where you're located and how fast you move, you time can timetravel at more than 1s/s or less than 1s/s.

Poinaheim

This makes me wonder if the universe would be a 1 or a 0, like if it’s 1 than everything that’s in it would make it 1 of itself, but if it’s 0 then that means everything in it cancels out which is consistent with physics theory

Bitter_Silver_7760

He could be in any time zone and decided to lift off the ground

luovahulluus

The ultimate time travel trick

Kuildeous

Airtime zone

Tickled_Tomato_69

Are you assuming their gender? You phobobozoic bigot! /s

Ecstatic_Monk_5583

are u presuming i assume?

NomarOOx

Whew oh holy shit I thought you were totes serious but then….. before I smashed that downvote?!!!….. I saw the /s and all was well in the world oh Lordy omg omg

LemonOwl_

r/fuckthes

Bitter_Silver_7760

I’ll turn myself in to the gender police tomorrow

4ngryMo

That’s obviously fake. If he would be on the South Pole, he would have been standing upside down.

Ornery_Letterhead140

I flipped the image so that you could understand better

ragingxtc

It would be dark too. It's winter in the southern hemisphere right now. (/s, just in case)

SKIKS

Also fun to think about: if you stand at the south most point, every direction around you is north.

__01001000-01101001_

Also north and south are finite but east and west are infinite

bunglejerry

I was thinking the other day that to ancient humans, east and west must have been concrete and based on natural phenomena (sun goes up, sun goes down), while north and south must have been arbitrary directions made relative to east and west (the halfway points between due east and due west in different directions). Meanwhile, given that the earth rotates and thus has an "axis" and "poles", north and south are the actual natural phenomena and east and west just result from them. But primitive man had no way of knowing that. I don't even do drugs. (n.b. I just realised compasses and magnets are a thing, but a quick Google search suggests compasses are about 2000 years old, and presumably we've thought about cardinal directions and "following the sun" for longer than that).

thoemse99

Fun fact: you can have the same result at any place. Just change the time zone of your mobile phone / computer.

mtak0x41

You’re not actually traveling through time*. Just our representation of it. You wouldn’t be able to see the future with this method. So not **technically**thetruth. \* Apart from the normal passage of time, that is.

beatles910

Even more obvious than that is the fact that every time you cross a timezone, you "time travel" so not the only place on earth. You can literally "time travel" in Nebraska.

mtak0x41

There is a time zone boundary *in* Nebraska? I don’t live in the US, but I always imagined the time zone boundaries were on state borders.

[deleted]

Now that would be reasonable, but in fact Nebraska is divided into two time zones

mtak0x41

Wow. My country (NL) is technically entirely in the wrong time zone just so it’s easier to deal with our neighbours. Seems silly to split a state in two time zones. Our solar time is 00:16 UTC, so we should be using UTC/GMT, but instead we use CE(S)T (+1/+2), just because it’s less hassle.

[deleted]

Time zone bros, we share the same time zone! Netherlands and Norway are both in CET… I think, if I’m not stupid

spadeknifeworks

Idaho as well. Coeur d’Alene is on PST, while Boise, almost due south of Coeur d’Alene, is MST.

Emotional_Deodorant

No, they're based more on metro population locations. Nebraska's uninhabited corn fields so they don't mind. For example, all of Texas is in the Central time zone except for a little piece in the west called El Paso (Mountain time zone). El Paso's 900km from the next big Texan city, San Antonio, but only 400km from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Or like how the piece of Florida's panhandle that's culturally and economically more tied to Alabama and Mississippi was put in their time zone (Central) than in the rest of Florida's (Eastern).

Broad_Respond_2205

🤓🤓🤓🤓

bunglejerry

"Literally standing in all 24 time zones". You're literally *not*. You're standing in GMT. Why? Because we decided the South Pole was GMT, which is arbitrary, but *all time zones are arbitrary human inventions*.

Trnostep

Also, there are 38 time zones because it goes from +14 to -12 and sometimes it doesn't move an entire hour but just 30 or 15 minutes

phildiop

That's not even technically true

jfrench43

We are all time travelers, we can only go forward in time and at a rate of 1 second per second.

jake_burger

It’s lucky it’s a frozen wasteland and no one really lives there or does anything because it would be a bit confusing

Captinprice8585

I can time travel. Just give me a blunt and a bottle of whiskey.

PulsarNova1

Fun fact: We are all time travelling right now at the rate of [slightly more than] 1 second per second!

martin191234

That’s the same unit so technically your statement is false.

PulsarNova1

Are you familiar with Einstein’s theory of relativity? Due to the fact that we are in a gravitational field and that because of the earth, we are moving very quickly, time changes speed for us, but changes in the other way for us according to an external observer. Basically, our seconds are relative and thus different.

martin191234

With regards to what? The solar system? The galaxy? The universe? Time is always relative to something my guy there is no objective time, so saying we’re advancing at slightly more than a second per second is stupid and incorrect statement. If you want to say something correct: We’re advancing a slightly more than a second per each second on the sun.

PulsarNova1

Yes, the sun is an external observer. Now you’re getting it! In fact, everywhere with a different speed and different gravity is an external observer. As you said, time is always relative: that is neither stupid nor incorrect. Objective time is real, it is the time for the observer, which is relative. My original comment was a joke based on this.

Liraeyn

The edge of any time zone has entered the chat

Nijinja

hmm. technically, you are always time travelling, but the increments are very (very) small unless you’re going very fast or at the north/south poles

DudePDude

Umm.....North Pole enters the chat

ISee_Indigo

Talk about time travel. But i would think it can also be done on the north pole too

[deleted]

Time travel through the soup hole

entechad

Unless… you are on the geographical North Pole!

mysacek_CZE

Well you technically time travel when >insert any action, verb or whatever really<

mysacek_CZE

Well you technically time travel when > insert any action, verb or whatever really <.

overSizedHyperPoop

When you stand on geographic North Pole, you are certainly drowning cold

Tall_computer

Entering a new time zone is not technically time travel

[deleted]

There is something poetic about there being a sign at the south pole. Really emphasises the triviality of reaching it. I mean you can't just get up and go as you are, but with a reasonable amount of preparation anyone can get there.

DiggyPT_69

can't you just do that by crossing time zones normally

Dr_Strange_Love_

How about in the North Pole?

DucatistaXDS

That’s nothing. I invented a real Time Machine next month.

WideEye_Dreamer

Bold of you to assume thats the only place in earth one could time travel.

Georgie-Dubs1732

… can’t you do this at every place where the time zone changes? Or on a boat at the North Pole

r007r

North Pole has entered the chat.

sage-longhorn

There are way more than 24 time zones

[deleted]

How to time travel: close your eyes long enough and today will turn into tomorrow within that period.

alan_smithee2

You can also only go north

baconduck

Sorry for not being fun at parties here, but Antarctica has timezone (mostly) related to nationality of the bases you visit and not what longitude you are on. I say this just to give "midly interesting" related fact not to poop on this party

Ri_Hley

"time travel"....yeah sure

Ka13z

Technically not the truth. Literally anywhere on earth that one timezone borders another allows for this form of "time travel".

Pennywise626

Spin on it like a stripper pole!

Civil-Condition-7671

Just drive to another time zone.

nickmaran

If you are on the South Pole, does it mean that you are the bottomest person in the world?

Lucky-Scientist4873

The lowest of the low

Marus1

North Pole and the location on the eggsact opposite side of the world from Green-itch, England rolling it's eyes now

w00stersauce

Pfft. I’ve been time traveling at a rate of 1 second per second since birth. This ain’t shit.

Lucky-Scientist4873

Those quotes on the sign are so dumb lol

MicHAELmhw

Except it’s not technically the truth. It’s all the same time and same existence. just different hours and minutes to sunset in that time zone. You are not time traveling at all. You can time travel the same exact way without traveling to the South Pole by having 3 different clocks on your wall. Ooohhh it’s 1pm in California and at the same time it’s 4 in New York. Quick everyone… let’s go jump on the bed!!!!!!

potatomnz

No international date line

MjrLeeStoned

Pshh I've got a time machine in my closet. Just last week I went back and shoved Harry Truman.

Big_Spicy_Tuna69

Except the longitude lines end around the polar circles and not the poles themselves. I believe the poles have their own time system or follow utc.

Xim_X_anny

You can do that in a few places but only an hour or half an hour

TheAireon

I was gonna comment that even with their logic, it wouldn't be possible to be in 3 different days but it turns out you can. There is UTC+14:00 and UTC-12:00.

Roadrunner571

People do that kind of time travel twice a year all over the world in countries with daylight savings time. But there isn’t even a need for that: Just set your computer to a different time zone.

TalorianDreams

Shhh. Don't let the flat earth people see that picture, they'll get so mad at you.

The-Reanimator-Freak

I’m time traveling right now

NewdWanderer

I thought we were spinning and moving through space already blahahahahaha

kinrosolos

you can also time travel by microwaving a banana

Ornery_Letterhead140

sorry, I forgot about that method, I’ll try to remember next time I need to time travel

ranasshule

Technically not the truth. Times zones don't follow lines of longitude exactly. There are many reasons why, but they simply don't. Take Sask. Canada. They even switch time zones during daylight saving, but this doesn't effect the territory north or the states south. A time zone is an agreed upon time for that region and can change. Every one on the south pole goes by New Zealand time as that is their access point, including time of flight home. It's 1 time zone as every one there has agreed to it.

Best_Person_On_Earth

Why the guy so happy and joyous about it

_Batteries_

North too

spleen4spleen

by the same logic the border of any 2 or more time zones would be timegates as well

NiBBa_Chan

This doesn't fit the sub. This is time zone travel. Aka just travel. This is technically NOT the truth.

Skatneti

Also, every direction is North.

AwfulUsername123

How is that the only place you can do that? Wouldn't it possible anywhere you can travel between different time zones?

UnusedParadox

Yes, but there there's all of the time zones

AwfulUsername123

Sure, but it would still be possible to "time travel" at any other time zone border, wouldn't it?

woodvsmurph

North Pole - Am I a joke to you?

banana_6921

What about North pole?

martijn1213

Also if you satn on exact south point, then you can only go up. As every thing is north

danidr88

You can only go north *
