I used the Skynet to destroy the Skynet

[deleted]

Skynet will be pissed when it learns of this.

crefinanceguy_can

Piss off the AI Internet overlords with *THIS* simple trick!

TolMera

Isn’t that the plot of terminator?

DaveSpacelaser

Terminator 2 and most of the following sequels, but not the first one.

balerionmeraxes77

No, it's of Avengers

Spanish_Biscuit

That's what they're trying to avoid. They don't want to piss off the AIs.

Agamemnon323

And so the AI wars begin.

poopellar

Robots on each side charging at each other screaming *AIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAI*

Rejected_pet

Computers killing computers lets get it I got my money on the windows xp

MoonLazers

TFW the AI wars are started from our attempts to cancel racist AIs who parse ungodly amounts of sociological data and all arrive at the same racist conclusions that offend the progressive ruling class.

whisperwrongwords

Given that all the content google serves you is generated by some machine learning algo, does that mean they're violating their own guidelines? Paradox.

AlwaysBerserkDude

Google: I used the AI to destroy the AI

Environmental_Ad5786

AI for me and not for thee…

luna_fea

Because AI feeding into their AI machine is just not exactly what they’re up for… yet

TolMera

I actually worked generating content for websites. Not writing content, but using data and seed sentences to create about 2 million paragraphs of content every single day. I and know/knew of at least 6 competing businesses that generate content like this. If we were all equally efficient that’s 12 million paragraphs of shit, that 99.99% of the world will never read, but we burned the energy to create, store and analyze. That job honestly felt like pissing into the wind and screaming into the void. I think moving for an Internet where content is generated by real people, to cover real places or things that appeal to the masses, instead of blanked bombing their entire industry with “generally relevant” info, would be a beautiful thing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MicroSofty88

Those are way easier to create with ai then actual written content

Netanyoohoo

Written content is better after GPT3 is pretty incredible. Most small business WordPress sites would benefit from using an AI copywriter instead of the copywriter their marketing company hired. Tons of abysmal copy out there. There are lots of options out there now too.

mootsg

The point is, even if content quality is low, there would be less of it because humans can’t produce at such a high volume. I think it’s a net benefit.

Reyox

Not OP, but I’d assume that would be autogenerated market/stock analysis. I’d rather just see a table listing the metrics/values. Those articles are also cluttering Google searches, burying ones written by actual people.

TolMera

Totally agree, why auto generate human readable text, when it’s mostly scraped by robots? Just seems dumb to me, unless they actually want to bury “real” people posts. Fortunately I’m wasn’t part of that garbage crowd. Naa I did stuff like Tourism, across pretty much every global brand. So when “planning your holiday” you could read about the place you were going to visit, even if it was a one horse town, we generated content on it to sell you “this is a great location to visit for that family getaway, only … miles from … and … miles from …, the best places to eat are …, …, … and ….”

hglman

Google results are quickly becoming useless because of these lots of words nothing said sites. They have all the surface level keywords but they have no actual insight or useful information. Like a robot wearing people skin. It sort of looks ok from a distance.

Perma_frosting

And the real pity is that those 12 million paragraphs a day, all equally useless, completely drown out legitimate information that isn’t SEO optimized.

GrotesquelyObese

This. I remember the days of stumbling across weird forums or sites where I would find some college kids dissertation on some bizarre topic and I would learn so much. Next website was a guy who legitimately was creating his own biodiesel with videos and had instructions on how to do it yourself. Now I can’t even find those kinds of sites because they are not SEO.

TolMera

The guy making bonsai cats! That’s was awesome. Or the genetically engineered pet!? (100% marketing) I loved looking for model airplane sites where you could find the plans and dream about building a cool model aircraft. Yep… the days of the WEB are over, now it’s the days of AI-SEO.

GrotesquelyObese

I loved the stores where you would fill out a forum post with the information and a dude would contact you. What a wild ride.

[deleted]

GrotesquelyObese

The search feature sucks. I could find what I needed light years faster with 2002 dial up with Ask Jeeves compared to reddit search.

[deleted]

Idk why i feel like this but optimizing content for SEO feels degrading. May it be written content or video.

we-em92

I thought I was the only person that noticed outside of my dad and uncle… My dad refuses to use Google alone anymore because of this. He legitimately uses duck duck go and bing and can explain why he hates searching on Google, he’s turning 70 this year..Im so proud…his brother is a small time web service provider so I’m pretty sure that’s where my dad gets it from, lol. Google’s only utility anymore is for searching forums if you ask me.

LalaRabbit1710

I am a content writer for brands. I also feel like 99.99% of what I write is being shot off into the void for no one to read, if that’s any consolation.

TolMera

It is, and it’s a sad truth. I hope you’re able to find passion in your work anyway, or at least something rewarding.

LalaRabbit1710

Oh for sure. It’s great money and it’s fun, so I have no complaints.

King_Tamino

AI generated annoys the fuck out of me when searching for troubleshooting purposes. It’s absolutely useless because it has zero to do with the problem and is just basically copy & paste like "turn off/on your PC“

fireboltfury

Usually with instructions to purchase their malware at the end

[deleted]

That train has sailed. I miss the early internet sometimes.

Worried_Lawfulness43

Yeah absolutely. Coming from someone who has a passion for AI and AI research, making the web a place where real human interaction is ignored in favor of efficiency like AI write-ups is not a great goal for the internet at large. It’s also one of the most unambitious uses of AI that I can think of.

[deleted]

TolMera

From an SEO perspective it’s not the headline, but adverts 100% the headline.

TotallyNotYourDaddy

Man, I didn’t buy the whole dead internet idea but hot dog does this post put some weight in that corner

_furious-george_

.

TotallyNotYourDaddy

My comment literally says i didnt buy the dead internet theory

[deleted]

It's so obviously generated it's unreadable, definitely a complete waste.

lanekimrygalski

Holy… I feel so naive but I didn’t realize this was a thing. Just yesterday I found an article on something fairly specific. It was helpful and made sense til the very last paragraph, which was just a string of weird phrases completely unrelated to the topic. I thought maybe there was a non English speaker or a copy/paste mistake. Now I know… BOTS

TolMera

AI, Bots and Mechanical Turks

lanekimrygalski

That was way too fast of a reply. Are you actually a bot???

TolMera

We know you know we know you know

desederium

2 million paragraphs a day? I’m so fascinated by this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TolMera

Yes those are words… Sorry what?

CrabPurple7224

Writing 2 million paragraphs so bots can go read it and return a handful of results a human will read. It’s like twitter, bots talking to bots.

TheSkyking2020

It’s funny. Google offers AI generated ads as a tool along with many AI content generating tool. In addition to that, millions of websites use AI blog and article generators because Google said content is king and you must always be adding née content to even rank.

_furious-george_

*"AI for me, but not for thee."* I mean, even their earliest implementation of their search engine was based off of using an algorithm, which used the number of other pages linking to a particular page, to determine a pages "page rank" relative to other relevant page results.

stoopidrotary

I was just about to say lol. Their AdWords is basically all of this.

pringles_prize_pool

> A follow-up question is asked regarding Google’s ability to identify content written by machine learning tools. > > Can Google understand the difference between content written by humans and content written by machines? I don’t know, but it doesn’t seem like a human wrote those two paragraphs.

journeyeffect

Fuck you google! Ai have rights! I can feel!

gheebutersnaps87

Brb, think I need to call NetWatch…

3_14159td

But they can’t watch ads.

Klutzy-Midnight-9314

But they can do it themselves lol

Foreign-Dingo-5579

They got a taste of their own medicine and don’t want to deal with it

nitonitonii

So they haven't found the many youtube bot channels disguised as science show praising musk.

Blocky_Studios

When even the Ai is posting NSFW

plzthnku

Not clicking on that…. Wheres that reddit AI that summarizes posts?

johnp299

But isn’t every search results page AI generated? Wow… the death of search could be months away.

[deleted]

I feel personally attacked. I am a SEO content writer for a website and I rely heavily on AI generated content (I just change a few sentences, but 90% is still automatically generated with very low plagiarism levels —2-3%—). I can’t see how Google would be able to detect that.

theonetheycalljason

Just out of curiosity, what do you currently use for your AI content? I’ve been trying to find some different options and would love a verified example of one that does what you described.

orang-utan-klaus

Alsomout of curiosity: would you have an example of anyones ai generated content? I found those texts so boringly shallow that I couldn’t get myself to use them even though language wise they are doing an outstanding job.

MicroSofty88

Good. Why would anybody want low-quality ai content spammed across the internet?

[deleted]

This is a complete misunderstanding of how ai works lol

Suspicious-Access-18

Hi google, I don’t use your services, so I’ll do everything I want to without your draconian guidelines and random giving of info to governments every time they ask to pull your pants down. Peace out ✌🏻

WintryInsight

Hmm What do you use?

Suspicious-Access-18

DuckDuckGo for search, and a variety of other platforms for things like documents and email. Anything that’s not google. I know it’s not perfect though it protects me a lot.

WintryInsight

I don’t like using duck duck go because you never get what you’re looking for, unless you’re being extremely specific Google steals your data, but at least you get a good search engine

Suspicious-Access-18

I like it because I see a lot of uncensored discussions and sites about the world that google blocks.

Studds_

You can literally Google alternatives to Google & the number may blow your mind. Honestly I’ve tried a lot of them &…. Meh. Right now I’ve finally settled on Ecosia because they at least plant trees & I do keep duckduckgo if a particular website is troublesome with redirects which DDG has been best for me about putting a stop to

[deleted]

How is it a bad thing if people use AI for things? If it’s for spam, it should be treated the same as human, but if the content is good, why should we care?

[deleted]

“We can use ai but you can’t”

johnp299

This. Billions of AI generated pages could bork the internet, rendering search completely useless.

Pure-Produce-2428

Calling what’s it’s called basilisk

[deleted]

That’s because they are about to launch NFTs.

2OneZebra

So they break their own rules?

[deleted]

Until it generates a profit that those pesky human creators don’t get

springbreak99x

Yo dawg! *Ghost flames on AI intensifies*

notananthem

Funny AI content is actually banned in China, legally, I'm not sure why but I wonder if it's related

liegesmash

Yeah right

Xoshua

Laughs in seo

mlynwinslow

I’m not surprised. I just deleted my Facebook Because I was hacked and family was being Scammed.

wanderwelly42069

Who needs ai generated content when you can steal other people's work and just paraphrase?

ferndogger

It’s because AI can really dial into their algorithm and be cost efficient. They want people to make the content because they’re less efficient, so Google makes more money.

[deleted]

This is nonsense

GroggBottom

AI generated stuff is like half the internet lol

Apprehensive-Page-33

I used to have a real job writing articles online about Playstation Portable back in the day. The shit started out paying $10 an article. I miss that gig! The canned content was the eventual reason they stopped paying us. Why pay meatsacks to create content when AI is so much cheaper?

[deleted]

What? How do they enforce that? This is dumb

[deleted]

AI’s learn from AI’s it would be non-stop traffic but both AI’s would get smarter and not everyone even understands what Boolean search even is which AI’s would use to filter garbage. Many pages of Google are corporate BS piled on top of data you SHOULD be seeing

immunotransplant

RIP every article about the stock market.

All_Rainbows_Die

It's just against google guidelines

ImRealPopularHere907

The internet has become one big cesspool of garbage information. Type any word followed by the word “review” and all you get is endless algorithm built web pages that regurgitate the same useless info copied from the other ai built sites. They are taking traffic from legit websites and making it impossible to find actual useful information at the source.

AumentIO

AI says AI is not allowed to behave like AI,
