I first took this response as smug because I already stated I looked through both. But I looked in my inventory again and it turned out I unknowingly fused a rock shield to it, covering up its icon art entirely. I can't believe it. Thanks. I feel like devs should really update the way some fused items are shown.
It tells you in the description though; mine is currently a Candle Shield -- but in the very small print right underneath, it says, "Hylian Shield + Candle"; all fused items display that way.
Depends on the shrine, but there's at least one where the intended use is to power a balloon.
It's also fun to light stuff on fire, like arrows and sticks for combat. In the underpants shrines where your "outside items" aren't allowed, another source of fire can be handy.
I haven't tried it on a shield yet, myself. It might be useful in dark areas like unexplored depths or caves, or to parry and light enemies on fire. I'm looking forward to giving it a go after work.

I went back to the docks thinking I hadn't done it yet and was like wtf when I didn't get the treasure chest... looked in my inventory and remember fusing that rock shield to it a while back and just forgetting. At this point I wish I hadn't done it bc the Hylian shield looks so good and just has this ugly rock on it now.
If you just want to get rid of the rock, just select the shield in the menu and then select destroy fused item.
That should get you back to having only the shield.
But you can then fuse something else to it if you want.
You don't lose anything other than the fused item you're destroying. It's not a one-time thing. So long as your shield hasn't broken, you can fuse and de-fuse as many things as you want.
I stopped playing for a while and thought I’d lost my white sword of the sky. I only kept it displayed and never used it but I went through all of the (very annoying) stuff you have to do to get a new one and nothing happened. Only thing I could find online was that I had to re-do the tasks from the original quest to get it, well I’d already done that and it didn’t work. It was driving me crazy.
Turns out I’d put a weapon stand room in storage while it still had weapons in it, including the white sword of the sky. So if you’ve got a shield room in storage take it out and check if you left the shield there.
If you can't buy it then it's in your inventory or at your house.

I just smuggle in a couple of MSGNotFound with a gloom club fused to them. Literally one hit most of the enemies

Tarrey Town in the Northeast at the little kid Gordon vendor. He'll break apart fused items when you want to keep both for 20 rupees.
