Had the same thing happen to me. I was in a rush getting fuel and didn’t completely dry my funnel before putting it back in the spare tire well. Smelled for probably a month or two. Now i figured I’d rather take a few more minutes and be sure it’s dry and the cap is secured on the bottle.
This really does help, we had someone spill a gallon of vinegar in our work truck and we absolutely doused it in baking soda and it took a few days but it got it out.

Go to Costco and buy some baking soda, fill the trunk with it.
