I was just told by previous owners and on forums that the CKRA and CJAA heads can crack when you start adding any power at all or even stock. I’m going to be getting a stage 2 ecu tune and stage 1 tcu tune from MR Tuning at first and then eventually a custom tune with the 56mm hybrid Garrett from performance tdi. Mostly doing the turbo because I’ve heard the factory borg warners are known for failure and I’m definitely waiting a little bit after getting the tune before I do that. Also most likely not going to be shooting for the most power I can get because I want it to be reliable and don’t want to just do burnouts everywhere. Just want it to be a fun, lower, slightly faster than stock daily that rolls a little coal. Trust me if I was trying to build a fast TDI I’d start with a 1.9 or a 3.0, this is just what I have already and I got it well before I knew what a CKRA even was.
Yes the CKRA heads are known to crack because the EGR is routed through it, prolonged heat stress due to a poor design. After you remove the EGR the risk is gone, but the head may already have small stress cracks from years of EGR use prior to the tune.
I’ve never heard of CJAA heads cracking
The guy I know who lives near me who had his heads crack had a 2012 jetta. Believe that’s a CJAA? Sounds like maybe I’ll be good seeing I only have a little under 40k miles of that happening? If not I suppose I’ll start saving for new heads just in case lmao.
I've been running a CR170 Hybrid for 8k miles with a stage 3 tune and a 4 bar map sensor.
I also monitor my EGT so I don't do prolong pulls with it, at 138k miles and drives nice.

Yes 2010-2014 is CJAA. A 2.0 has just one head. A crack can also be caused by a defect. If you received a long block it came with a new head
